I'm going to make a topic in the thank you section in a little bit that I'd like all the teams at Sac (who read CD) to see .. It'd be much appreciated - Thanks |

We're pretty sure that the reason it blew was that it was being driven full forward, then being slammed into reverse during autonomous. I figure there should be a massive current spike in this condition. The strange thing is that we'd been doing it for a long time, but it didn't give out until we needed it most. I feel a little responsible because I caught the problem before but forgot bring it up. For one thing, I didn't think it would lead to catastrphic failure. Especially not right before the championship rounds. |
Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
Great job to all teams, especially the winning alliance, you guys played awesome. It's too bad we couldn't play our best match in that last final match
as our mentor mentioned our shooter bearing got dislodged, so our shooter would not shoot fast enough, it was heart breaking seeing us lined up and the balls just plopping out and going no where(we had settings to shoot from below the ramp!) also 753 could not drive due to overheating (the breakers were so hot from the match before that they hadn't had time to cool down... and tripped at normal driving)... oh well its all part of the game! great job everyone , second place is certainly not upsetting. Thanks to 753 and 955 for helping us get so far! The very nice thing i think was that EVERYONE was defending us (701) leaving 955 totally open and they scored probablby more points than us in the lower goals ! (we usually made 6-7 to goals while they human loaded and dumped 20+) |

The victor was a huge dissapointment. I tried to sort of jerk and twist our bot into firing range with only half the drivetrain pulling which almost worked until the opposing alliance figured me out and gave us a friendly little shove back to where we started. We didn't have any chance once our bot couldn't get into firing range. As a side note, I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed meeting the other teams which I really tried to put a lot of effort into this regional when I had nothing to fix (mainly the drive teams during strategy meetings but also the others that came by to say hi) and congrats to all the people who got awards. |
Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
Team 814 had a phenominal time at Davis. Though we produced a robot that was hardly considered competitive, over half of the kids had never been to a competition before and had a lot to learn. Now I'm confident enough to say that my kids definitely know all that FIRST represents.
When we weren't picked for the finals, we weren't disappointed. It just made us realize we could root for our favorites instead. (701!! :]) There was so much energy during the finals. I swear it was louder than a high school football game. I love that team 245 won Chairmans. They're such a great group. I hope this motivates them to return once again in 2007. It wouldn't be Davis without them. Team 814 gives a huge thanks to UC Davis and everyone who made this regional possible. Keep up the good work and we'll see you next year! |
Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
Well, I must say that the UC Davis Regional was probably the funnest day of my life. I had so much fun cheering with all the teams there. I was the Fembot dancing around near the field in pair of wings, cape, and multiple other team spirit adornments. All the mascots down there were crazy cool. You guys rock.
Congratulations to all the teams that were in the finals and the winning alliance of 1726, 852, and 1662. You guys all did great. 1351 your robot was absolutely amazing. I'm sorry you had technical difficulties. It was so nice to have 368 there from Honolulu and great job on getting that spirit award. Good job to 245 on chairmans and 753 on the engineering inspiration award. Can't wait for next year and hope to see all the teams again. |
Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
Thanks to Alan, Bill, Steve, and Ken (the inspection crew). It was a pleasure working with you inspecting all of those great west coast 'bots. (I finally met and worked with the infamous Ken Leung :D )
Thanks Stu Bloom for the fine work as lead ref. I really liked the backup scoring system you guys used. I want to give a special thanks to Jason Morrella who gave team 34 every chance to compete by helping us track down our missing robot (It arrived 7:00 p.m. Thursday night ). But most of all I want to thank all the teams and volunteers at the Davis/Sacramento regional. This was truly a great event in our book and I'm so glad we could attend. Our team always strives to help other teams at any event we go to but it was particularly inspiring to me to see so many come to our aid when we needed a hand. It just goes to show you that FIRSTers are FIRSTers no matter what part of this world they live in. :) I hope to see you all again soon ........... |
Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
Hey Ed...
just wanted to say thanks , you were by far one of the most helpful inspectors i've met! You addressed actual problems and told us how to fix them. |

Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
That was the best Regional that I'd ever attended in my life, and the last FIRST Robotics Competition in my high school career. Thank you to Team 701 and Team 753 for this amazing experience!

My heart goes out to team David Tyco and his rookie team 1974. I do wish they come back again under better circumstances and wish David a speedy recovery. Team 34, 1726, and 100 really helped them out so they could get their robot running around on the field. They did eventually win one match and were able to score 9 points in a match. Thank you again to all those who attended the regional and we sure hope to have you back in the future. For those who missed some of the final matches, I'm starting to post some of them on our website along with Grant's (Mythbusters - Team 841) pep talk. |
Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
thanks for putting up those videos! If you want to fill in the blanks on which teams were in the matches, look here for the match info.

Re: 2006 Davis Sacramento Regional
Does anyone know where to find videos of this regional? My team and I wanted to watch them to see some of the great robots we may have missed.
