mustard on hamburgers?!

I got this idea while looking through the thread about accents and slang. Do all of you REALLY automatically get mustard on your hamburger when you order from McDonalds and Burger King and such? Like, right along with the ketchup?! Ew! Everyone says that Long Island is the only place where they don't put mustard on hamburgers. I don't even think fast food places around here even have any mustard! Mustard + hamburger = strange.

Renzorocks 29-05-2002 19:06

i would never like to see mustard on my cheeseburguer !!!!!

Melissa Nute 29-05-2002 19:46

It isn't a hamburger without mustard....

Mustard is to hamburgers what death is to humans... nuff' said

Ashley Weed 29-05-2002 22:20

we have everything on our burgers. People around here will say do you want that with a salad on top? Meaning do you want lettuce, tomato, and onion on your burger. I don't personally like mustard either!

Ian W. 29-05-2002 22:45

lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, etc. belong on hamburgers, but in no way, shape or form, should mustard ever touch a hamburger! mustard is for deli sandwiches and hotdogs (although i hate hot dogs).

Jnadke 29-05-2002 23:01

Heh... funny you should ask that. Yesterday I was eating a burger and I put cheese and ketchup and said to my mom... where's the mustard and onions...

I diligently searched for the required condiments and found them stuffed away in the fridge... Shame!

Yes... mustard just makes it taste so much better! But whether you should have mustard or not is not the question to ask... it's... "What is the perfect ratio of ketchup to mustard on a burger?"
My answer is 2 to 1...

fast frank 29-05-2002 23:03

well, i'm the 5th person to reply from long island. they 4 before me all said no, and i say no. so, in conclusion, long island is the only normal place.

Pamela 29-05-2002 23:05

ewwww..... hamburgers..... with mustard! yuck! I'll stick with my garden burgers with ketchup!

Rob Colatutto 29-05-2002 23:05

yeah, i agree with that. long island is the only place thats even half normal....

purplehaze357 29-05-2002 23:29

mustard on hamburgers is a definite no go

Brandon Martus 29-05-2002 23:43

what about mustard with italian sausage ... or bratwursts?

[mustard + ketchup + hamburger = good]

As much as you can fit on, ideally 1:1. Sometimes more than you can fit on, but since mustard and ketchup also taste good alone, that's ok.

I'm not a big ketchup fan so... 1:2 with me...but then again I only eat my mom's hamburgers since I'm just weird like that...Then again is also depends on where you grew up on what you like...

Long Island? Normal? hehe you guys are funny....

We are the most normal people in the nation! haha! Where else do you find a place where half the people work in the city and the other half have never been to the city?!

I hate when I go to Maine and I forget to ask them to NOT put MUSTARD on the CHEESEBURGER!! IT IS A CHEESE BURGER! that means HAMBURGER + BUN + CHEESE + KETCHUP I never asked for a MUSTARDBURGER!

What is this world coming to when you have to ask them NOT to put Mustard on something... THE PAIN THE PAIN

Mustard is great..... for me to poop on!

Amy Beth 30-05-2002 12:32

How funny! Personally, mustard is the only hamburger condiment that i can stand the flavor of alone. Ketchup and mayo are ok in small amounts on burgers, but on mine there better not be enough that i can noticeably taste them. However, when i go to Mickey D's i never make special requests. I know people who will painstakingly scrape out the onion bits and ketchup, but i just close my eyes and try to imagine that i'm eating something normal. So....i don't think i've ever checked if there is mustard on my Mickey D. I always assumed there was, but i guess it's possible that there is not. I mean, they won't give you mustard in the little packets, so...do they put it on the burger or not? Anyone else from SoCal? Do they?

David Kelly 30-05-2002 12:35

ketchup and cheese goes with everything.

Rob Colatutto 30-05-2002 15:22

ketchup is horrible....how can people eat that stuff, its almost as bad as mustard

Sachem Kid:D Do you go to fast food places and ask them for nothing?

Rob Colatutto 30-05-2002 16:00

no TIM ....i go and get whatever comes on it, and usually chicken...so there is no ketchup, and barbeque sauce is good, ps.. thank you for the pictures of destruction TIM

i perfer sweet & sour sauce actually...

Joe Matt 31-05-2002 09:51

Hamburgers are supposed to have two condoments on it; ketchup and mayo. Lettuce, tomato, and onion for vegies, bacon and cheese to make it complete.

Fast food I can stand some extra stuff (pickles), but that is my ultimate burger....

mmmmmmmmmm hungary.........

Joe Ross 31-05-2002 13:10

My best friend is from long island, and she is the only one that I know that doesn't eat mustard.

Melancholy 31-05-2002 14:39

i do like mustard on hot dogs (pronounced HOT DAWGS). but, on hamburgers it's yucky. and don't think that all sachem people are freaks who don't like ketchup. nataku is just a weenie and he doesnt like anything. hambugers need ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and cheese. nothing more, nothing less.

DanL 31-05-2002 15:04

Except for this little... thing...

Viva Long Island! Burgers are meant to be free! A vote for Mustard is a vote for Facism! ;)

Ian W. 31-05-2002 15:24

hmm, i think dan is getting a bit political. mustard = facism, no money = terrorist win. :D

anyways, mustard has it's own place, as does ketchup too.

Chubtoad 31-05-2002 17:21

Once I tried to put mustard on a hamburger myself, not being a qualified Fast Food Distributor. I figured it was pretty standard, ya know, like Ketchup, you just take the bottle and squeeze its contents onto the burger/cheese/bun. Of course being at a Fast Food Restaurant it came in packets, so again I thought it was the standard, rip the corner, then squeeze the contents on the corresponding burger. Needless to say I ran into some problems.

So I take a few packets from the bin of mustard packets, thinking that I'll try mustard on Burgers again, because maybe its the people who put it on who make it taste bad. I proceed to take a seat amongst my friends who immediatley start a debate on whether or not mustard goes on burgers. So I take a few pre-burger french fries and I apply some BBQ sauce to them with the standard dunking action. So far, so good. Then I remove the plastic coated paper wrapper of the standard issue cheeseburger. So far I open the hood of this baby and find cheese, onions, ketchup and a cooked dead piece of a cow, oh and some pickles. I immediatley dispose of the pickles by lying them beside the burger but still on the open wrapper. This is the major decision: To mustard, or not to mustard!

I seize the first packet of Mustard, slow and easy I show the burger the packet, whether to tease it or make it happy... i do not know. Thumb to Pointer finger I grab the upper left hand greasy corner while I seize the bottom half of the packet with my other hand. RIP! and suddenly I have the corner off and immediatley onto the tray it goes. Turning it upside down I prepare for the mustard's decent onto my virgin hamburger. I wonder to myself whether the burger wants this new condiment. At some time I switched the packet to my right hand, the exact moment I do not know. squeeze squeeze squeeze I apply a very small newton force to the bottom of the packet which could now be considered the top due to my reversal of its vertical posistion. Slowly but surely the yellow substance seeps out of the packet and onto... the wrapper? I look down to see all of the rest of the mustard packets have been cut open and they are all oozing onto the rest of my tray! it seems that when I was paying attention to the liberation of the mustard from the packet I missed the cheeseburger get up, murder the rest of the mustard's and run off!! with my shake no less!!

This is proof that mustard DOES NOT go on BURGERS!!!

Melissa Nute 31-05-2002 17:30

TIM - sounds like you need to pay attention to what you are doing.....look before you apply force.....

Melancholy 31-05-2002 17:56

...

i'm speechless... what's a beautifully sad tale. those poor non-long island hamburgers... having to be covered by that horrible, horrible substance known as, "mustard"

Ian W. 31-05-2002 18:13

come on long islanders! we must liberate the lost hamburgers being covered by mustard!!

and you thought the sticknapper MOE sticks were a big deal ;)

i say we hit northern NY first, cause if one state is doing it, then it will be a trend. we need to raise some money to lobby for a bill, that forbids torturing hambugers with mustard. i'm sure if we get enough money, er, assemblymen :p, on our side, we can win! free the hamburgers!!

hmm, i think i need to get out more...

PsychoPhil 31-05-2002 19:22

mustard?

only honey mustard...

Phil

Rob Colatutto 31-05-2002 20:35

hmm...someone i know has moe sticks....not saying any names...but TIM, maybe you know who has them?

team 271 knows nothing about these so called "moe sticks" in our possession

Brandon Martus 31-05-2002 23:08

um.

this is a mustard thread, right? :)

start a new thread if you want to talk about something totally unrelated ... gracias

fast frank 31-05-2002 23:18

wow, does mustard mean that much to you? hahahaha (sarcasim)
i couldn't care less about mustard, i hate it. i like tim's story. will there be a sequal?

Ben Mitchell 01-06-2002 19:22

I have never been to a place where mustard was served on hamburgers, and I am glad.

Maybe its just a northeast thing, like how you cant buy grits here (sp?)

Clark Gilbert 01-06-2002 20:02

Mustard.....

Here in Indiana i think Mustard comes standard on any kind of hamburger/cheeseburger.....(i know for a fact it does at Burger King and McDonalds)

:)

(i also like it on my cheeseburgers :))

Anne George 01-06-2002 20:13

see I put the Mustard on to cover the taste of the burger and the catsup on to cover the taste of the mustard and the pickles and bun to cover the taste of the catsup so I need the catsup and the mustard or it just wouldnt be right

Katie Reynolds 01-06-2002 22:29

Yeah, here mustard, katsup, pickles and (at McDonalds) onions are standard on burgers. Brats are served at fast food places with katsup... I personally ask for burgers with "just cheese" or mayo and cheese. ... Anyone ever eat french fries with mayo? Yummmmm ... :D

- Katie

Chubtoad 18-06-2002 20:08

On the way home from WPI, we went to McDonald's and whats really funny is Melancholy, FastFrnk and myself were there and we're all like 'No no mustard! Not the mustard!' and we laughed.
Sigh, good times, good times.

fast frank 18-06-2002 21:29

and when we say that our burgers had no mustard we were happy, and there was much rejoicing

Aaron Lussier 19-06-2002 12:36

?????

What is wrong with all of you I could'nt have a cheese burger any other way Tomatos, onions, lettuce, pickles, mayo, special sause, ketchup, and of course MUSTARD it like... holds the whole burger together when you are eating. Mustard helps combine flavors of every thing else making every bite you take better than the last untill the very last bite you have reached bliss :D :D :D
Just my thoughts on the subject.

Jeff Waegelin 19-06-2002 13:49

Just the other day, I went to Alcatraz, and I ordered a cheeseburger, and they were out of mustard! I was crushed. I couldn't believe it. It's just not the same without mustard... Anyways, as I was moping about the lack of mustard...the waitress found a bottle! I was so relieved.

Grrr... catsup or ketchup... you can't mix them!

Fries with mayo are good. Mixing mayo and ketchup to make a fry sauce is also good...

Teehee... Check out this cheseburger!

Makes me wish we had an In-N-Out Burger in Wisconsin!
