Stopped by my local Radio Shack today and noticed that all VEX was on sale for 50% off!

Starter kit is selling for $149.98!

I bought one just to play with!

Great way to start a VEX team for next season!

Someone from Radioshack called us yesterday and told us about the sale.
We had just requested information from them on the Vex and they were checking to see if we had received the information and to tell us about the sale.

I just called our local RadioShack store. They say the Vex kits and accessories are on sale throughout the retail chain.

Just ordered a kit and a ton of accesories
Everything was half price...what a great deal!!!

(now I have to wait a month for my sister to bring it here...why did radioshack have to close all their stores in Israel??? :mad:

Why does it have to be the day all the money for nationals is due!!!

Hopfully the sale will go on so i can get crystals, omnis, tank threads and whatever else is nice to have.

I'd love to get one, especaially since its a great way to get kids, (ie my siblings/incoming freshmen) interested in FIRST, but I don't have the money for one, and I doubt my FRC team would buy me one, or even buy itself one.

According to the tag on the price, the sale lasts until April 2nd...so you've got some time. I heard about the sale yesterday and verified it today. My local store had at least two of everything major...at least one of the minor things. I really can't afford this, but I can afford it more than regular price! Oh how that tax refund will be welcomed with open arms....

Just last week I bought a VEX kit and the programming kit for $400. I went back into the store tonight with my receipt, and they gave me a refund on the difference between the sales price and what I paid last week. I then used the difference to pick up another kit, a power pack, extra crystals, and four shaft encoders. I <heart> RadioShack.

It's for my kids. Really!

Called my local Radio Shack (terrible place really, hate it) and they said it used to be on sale but not any more and it was not going on sale again. :(

EDIT: Yep. Called another store. 1/2 price. Simply incredible. :) However, I hope to purchase some machining equipment (small mill, lathe, or possible both) on Thursday or Friday and I'm going to need every dollar I have.

You live in LA County. There are probably 15 stores within 10 miles. Call another store, the one you called didn't know what they were talking about. Good luck.

Just picked up another kit on sale, some gears, more steel, motors... I was told that they would be shipping the unsold stock back to the warehouse and it would be an "order only" product at that point. I hope Radio Shack's poor financial situation doesn't hurt the FIRST/Radio Shack Vex program.

Wow. Time to save up. I got until April 2nd to get myself in shape for some summer fun!

I hope they also have this sale next year because as soon as the sale hits next year my local RadioShack will have a shrine worshipping me. =D

I heard that RadioShack will no longer be selling Vex stuff, and thus the reason for the sale. Any truth to this rumor?

Man you people are making me angry. I want one!!!! Darn kids with all their fancy toys. iPods, video games, robots, where does it stop? Where do you get the money for these things? Actually, I have the money. But I'm getting a lathe instead! Haha suckers!!! :D

Oh yeah, in a few weeks, when you want some custom wheels or axles or anything else round for your Vex robots, give me a call. I'd be glad to whip them up on my new shiny lathe. :)

Actually, both my parents are freelance musicians. ANyway, I split the cost with my friend, so basically he gets my allowance for the next three motnhs. I'm hugely in debt. but it was so worth it. And i have no ipod.

And im going to take you up on that deal.

Well, I don't have an ipod OR videogames... But I have robots :). I was saving up to get a computer, and I have had enough to get a computer for more then a year, but my parents wouldn't let me buy one because we don't need anything more then the family computer.

So instead I bought a VEX kit, which they let me do as soon as it went on sale :D

Radio Shack- Vex Closeout Sale
 

A rumor was going around here about Radio Shack closing out the Vex, so I contacted them and got this response from their corporate Product Support Center:

"ALL of the Vex product line, with the exception of batteries, is
Sold-out-When-Gone. No additional stock will be obtain. At this time we
have no plans for replacements."

I've contacted VexLabs and they told me they were unaware of RS discontinuing the product. I followed up with an email but haven't heard anything about VexLabs intentions for the robots yet. Some of their items have shown out of stock for a while, I'm wondering if something is up with VexLabs too. A quick look at VexLabs shows out of stock include:
- Vex Gear Kit
- Vex Motor Kit
- Vex Servo Kit
- Vex Sprocket and Chain Kit
- Vex Light Sensor Kit
- Vex Optical Shaft Encoder
- Vex Ultrasonic Range Finder

We (my family) has been bingeing on these VEX kits and parts. In the past week we've spent over 1000 dollars on vex STUFF. We've bought a total of 5 kits. One for the family, three for the team, and one for one of our other mentors.

We also bought a ton of parts such as wheels, hardware, metal, and stuff. It's crazy.

After looking at all of the prices of these parts and sets and stuff, it's rediculous. No wonder they had a hard time selling this stuff.
1) They didn't really market it.
2) You have to spend an arm and a leg to get anything interesting done.

With the starter kit, I was able to do what every kid does with an RC Car of some sort

Scare the cats. :D

Just a tip, if you're going to get the starter kit, GET THE POWER PACK WITH IT TOO!!! Otherwise you will be searching your house for 14 AA batteries to power the bot up for only 3 hours. :D

The power pack is the only Vex item not on sale, its still at $50. It is a good idea to get standard rechargable RC 7.2V battery for the robot and 9.6V battery for the transmitter. Yesterday I bought one of the RC double battery chargers #23-440 marked down to $7.50. This charger looks just like the Vex charger except its silver with Radio Shack on the front instead of Vex.

One thing I noticed as I was cleaning out my local Radio Shack for Vex Parts is that the price tags on the shelves didn't say "Sale". They were regular price stickers with the reduced prices on them. No mention of "Sale" anywhere.

One of the theories floating about is that Radio Shack will be selling Vex at these reduced prices in the future. For some of the parts, that makes sense, but when you consider that the Sonar is a Daventech SRF-04 that is currently selling for $25, it doesn't seem likely that RS will continue to sell the Sonar for $15. And at $10, the Servos are now under priced.

So, it would seem that this is a "Clearance Sale", but why the parts at my store weren't marked with Red For Sale signs and reduced prices tags is beyond me.

The manager said they won't be restocking and said I and a couple of others
were the sole buyers.

VEX stuff is now on sale at RadioShack.com, here (it wasn't last time I checked). Someone mentioned April 2 as the last day of the sale - is that in store? Online it says "Sale valid until 06/03/06" under each product's price.

Can't you buy any standard battery pack that you can use on anything including a VEX? i hope to be getting one for my birthday.....actually i know i'm getting one for my birthday cause i went with my mom to get it but i like to act surprised!

The answer is yes. Im not sure what connector the Vex kit uses but I managed to find a bunch of batteries from Toy's R US that looks like they have the same connector. Im not sure about the radio's battery though.

we did a local tourney in San Diego and our kit was a 100 bucks off. i think it's because the lack of interest from other customers. who really buys VEX kits unless you're involved with FIRST. we saved enough money to buy a hardware kit, but on line, the store didn't have one. we lost the competition because we didn't pay attention to the incline when we built it, so it couldn't even move, but we pulled 6 out of 11 be cause of alliances. :P

The battery connectors are known in the R/C car industry as Tamiya style connectors. No telling wether or not they are general called this.

I grabbed everything our store had. If someone needs something, PM me or something. I bought extra just for that reason to share with other teams.
