Re: 2006 Lone Star Regional

awww just got back home from LSR . . so Ill try and make this post . . coherent.

I (and my team for that matter) all had an awesome time. for a first time team we coulnt have asked for a better 3 days (rookie all star, and our coach Robert Acosta winning the Woodie Flowers award, doing so well in the prelims then getting to play in the finals with explodeing bacon and the robowranglers).

I really want to say thanks to 118 for helping us figure out that electrical problem with the camera(the TTL chip fried on saturday but none the less thanks), and thanks to 1902, for being such an awesome team. and congrats to team Chaos for winning the game(those last 2 matches were . . insane).

any way it looks like the team will be able to find money to go to atlanta( I may not be there finals), so we really hope to see all the LSR teams at atlanta.

LSR was more than likely the only competition I will be attending this year and I am very happy its the only one. Congrats to all the people already mentioned but, I have to congratulate the regional planning committee in houston you guys put on a great regional, as with any competition there were issues but I feel that the positives of the weekend greatly outweigh the negatives.

I also was very impressed with the quality of the rookie teams in Houston, you would think with so many (19 rookies i think it was) there would have been many more broken robots when friday came around.

We are a little short on funds at the moment, but we we'll be there!

PS I loved your chant. Especially when the other teams starting chanting it!

I believe one of my team members has some of the finals on video. Let me ask him and I'll get back to ya. :)

Everybody we met at LSR was great. Judges, teams, everybody. We had a great time, too.

Oh, man, that final was a cardiac. I was so impressed by the winning alliance and how they hustled and muscled out a win. Great strat. Great teamwork. Great driving. You guys so totally rule.

I don't think that there is a cheer as cool as Oink oink boom. If it's any consolation, you guys had the coolest hats, or were at least in the top 3. :)

Heh thanks, its pretty cool. We are short on funds also, and are running the risk of not raising them in time. We are doing what we can tho so hopefully we can both make it.

Kris Verdeyen rocked the house people!
I know you made Team 118 proud.
Come back next year!

Also CRyptonite had the coolest hair salon going, spiking it.

It was a regional of total class acts: rookies, veterans, volunteers, inspectors, refs, judges, Reliant staff - everyone -

I'm looking forward to Nationals for sure - but I'm also looking forward to Lone Star Regionals '07 -
Jane

It really was an excellent regional. The championship match was beautiful to watch! It was the best mix of well designed robots and awesome strategy! I'm wondering if Kris could have kept going after that? He used it all up that last match! Didn't I see one of the judges dumping water on him? :D
Our robot had a constant string of little problems that kept us out of the running so I ended up spending too much time in the pits and not enough time doing fun stuff. I did, however, get hit by shrapnel from an exploding backup battery in the pit next to ours. That was sort of interesting!

To all the team that came, it was a great competition and we look forward to seeing you here again next year!

Indeed, it was a great experience. As part of a rookie team, we were very pleased with how well we did, even though we were a little disappointed when we dropped from 6th to 16th in rankings after losing our last match by one point...lol. ohh well, it was still an awesome time, and the intensity of the finals was more than enough to make up for it, well, that and finally being able to not worry about if the robot is functioning... :yikes:

congrats to all the teams that made it. i'd like to say thanks to 118 for graciously helping so many other teams, and also to 1902 for being an inspiration, as well as bringing us all a few good laughs. that being said, i'm off to bed... i'm still sleep deprived...

The LSR were amazing. Our entire team had a blast and we're glad we were able to finally bring home 1st. Thanks to 231 and 1421 for being the best alliance partners we could ask for.

I think we got video of the finals but we had to switch out batteries in the middle of the final match so theres about 10 seconds missing. I'll try to see what I can go about getting that footage.

1902, I wish I could be part of your team...it's absolutely amazing and I hope y'all can get the funding to make it to Nationals. Our team knows how that goes...try calling up news stations and getting them to do a little blurb on the team and ask for donations. That is how we were able to make it to Nationals our first year.

Cyber Wolfs, can't wait to see y'all at Nationals...it's going to be great having y'all there by our side!

And CRyptonite, thanks for letting me borrow your battery box for our Chairman's Award presentation. I managed to be about 6 inches taller and the judges loved it.

Everyone at LSR, y'all were awesome and made it such a great 3 days...I'd do anything to go back right now! Can't wait to see those teams that are going to Nationals!

Re: 2006 Lone Star Regional

I've been thinking...

LSR is one of (if not THE) largest regionals, correct? It is also the regional with the most rookie teams. From what one of the judges told me, there's talk of making it into a super-regional next year.

Tell me then, why on EARTH is there no off-season event for LSR teams? I think all of the Houston-area teams need to get together and try to organize an off-season event for the coming year. There are enough teams around with enough money to do it. I'm certain there would be support for it too. Has this ever been talked about before? I intend on bringing it up at my team's meeting tomorrow, to see what they think. I'd like to know what teams would be interested in trying to get this together, and maybe we can get something going.

There used to be off-season events a few years back. I think the issue was that they were getting too expensive, and we started having difficulty finding a place to hold all the teams that wanted to attend. Also, this was back when you could relatively cheaply build a fully functional field for your team.
