Andy Baker plugged the oil spill by shifting an AndyMark transmission he installed in the well.

Andy Baker can make a toughbox out of nothing but old AOL trial discs, elbow grease, and gumption.

Re: Andy Baker
I hate to ruin this thread, so I'll throw one in after I ask my question...
Who IS this Andy Baker? I get that he's kinda like the Chuck Norris of FIRST (at least, judging by this thread), but who exactly is he? Andy Baker has a 2010 shirt from every team... Even the teams that don't exist anymore. They made him one. (Okay, yeah. That sucked. Sorry) |

This is a part of who Andy Baker was and is. There is more. He is the Andy in AndyMark. He is also a very nice man and warm human being who has inspired many many people, including but not limited to - students, mentors, engineers, and friends. (I'd like to take a moment to say how sad I think it is that the WFA/WFFA sections of CD have fallen into near ruin. It does not speak well of us as members and mods.) Jane |
Re: Andy Baker
Thanks, Jane, for the link and thanks, KeatonM for the question, I have been wondering for a while. Sounds like he is a great example of what FIRST is.
When Andy Baker's kids grow up we may need 3 of these threads. |
Re: Andy Baker
[offtopicpost] Keaton, if you ever have any questions, CD is definitely the place to ask them. :)
Also, to anyone else, I highly recommend reading through the Woodie Flowers Honoree pages here. They're full of truly inspiring stuff. [/offtopicpost] |

Andy Baker makes events better by not even being there.

Re: Andy Baker
Andy Baker knows the 2011 game--and the manual password.
He developed them back in 2000, but left the GDC to put out hints that mere mortals could figure out. |
Re: Andy Baker
Andy Baker has many sets of game pieces, but he chooses not share them becasue he is testing his robot to make sure it can handle them all...at the same time.
Andy Baker controls the game timer. His minibot is always the first to deploy Andy Baker inspected my team's robot once. It got significantly better after it passed. (True story: Washington DC Regional 2009) |
Re: Andy Baker
Andy Baker's robot is teleoperated by an autonomous robot.

Re: Andy Baker
I once had the pleasure of speaking with Andy Baker - He is one of the nicest, most down to earth people I have ever met in my entire life.

Re: Andy Baker
Andy Baker's minibot starts at the top of the pole.

It starts at the top of all 4 poles. How, you ask? Simple, really. It's Andy Baker's minibot. Andy Baker's robot has the following capabilities: 1) steal all 6 ubertubes in automode and place them all across the top row. 2) Grab all the logo pieces from his alliance's feeders and score them, top, bottom, middle. 3) Repeat for opponent's logo pieces, middle, top, bottom (gotta get seeding points somehow, you know) 4) Blocks opposing robots at their towers until the endgame. 5) Deploys minibot to the top of the pole at the precise instant that deployment can begin. It then travels partner, opponent, opponent, own pole before the opponent's minibots even think about moving. Oh, and for the record: The mecanum/omni/nona/6WD drop-omni combination drive has yet to be equaled by anybody. It's also a swerve drive. Please note: this robot has yet to enter teleoperated period. Andy Baker's gotten lots of coopertition points without his partners or opponents even carrying a minibot. |
