MC Garb?

I was watching a regional webcast today with my boss (a potential future sponsor) and he asked me why all the announcers/MCs wear Hawaiian. I tried to explain it, but the best I could come up with was the fact that it was kind of an unwritten rule and everyone kinda obeyed it, so can anyone shine some light as to the origin of the Hawaiian Garb?

Were you watching the Silicon Valley Regional Webcast? If so, team 368 is from Hawaii and I'm pretty sure Mark Leon wears some sort of hawaiian thing they give him before each of they're matches, as do many other teams (We give Mark a 114 lab coat before each match).

Hope this helps.

Well I know that Dave Verbrugge usually wears Hawaiian shirts, Blair usually wears Hawaiian, Dave Lavery wears Hawaiian...and the other MC at Nationals (Not Mark or Chiniqua, or Dave...I forget his name) and they all wear Hawaiian...so that's why I was wondering,

Because it's brightly colors and draws people's attention. Or that's what I think. Mark usually wears his NASA uniform. Woodie has his tux, Chiniqua (sp?) wears the event shirt usually, Jeff Seaton and the other emcees wear hawaiian. I think it all started when Blair started wearing them as one of the first FIRST emcees.

It's clearly because MCs all have great taste in shirts.

We had Dave Lavery as our MC this year and even he dressed in Hawaiian (except when we gave him our black cape with the big green guy on the back of it ;))

BackInTheDay Dr Flowers was the MC for just about all the regionals

he ended up covered with team buttons by the end of the 1st day, and you could not tell what he was wearing.

When other people started to MC regionals it was weird, like: What happened to Woodie? (oh yeah, those stupid laws of physics that prevent one person from being in 6 places at the same time!)

The 'new' MCs started with their own style of leading the games, their own mannerisms, and their own, ummmmm uniforms. The hawaiian shirts started early and kinda stuck.
