I can't wait until the LA Regional.

4d 01h 36m until.

I wonder how different the game will be played in comparison to a Week 1 Regional...

Oh... if your robot is broken and you dont have a part that you need, youll probably see me or get advise from me, ill be running the FIRST Aid Station, put up by my team, 599 RoboDox, every year at all our comps. So, ill be there ready to help people in need.

There is a really good chance that I will be there (without my team) on Saturday. Any CDers want a moss-covered old guy to hang with?

We're sending down the trailer for the regional.

So any mill/lathe work that doesn't need to be terribly precise, welding, and all your standard shop tools.

Re: 2006 Southern California Regional

My team has got hack saws and hand drills, basically what we build the robot with! :)

ahaha. I dont know. CheesyPoofs are not going this year, so i dont know if that NASA van thing they have will be there. Im sure there will be a couple machines a couple teams will have, like a small bandsaw or drillpress, that is if there is no machining area.

I know are whole team is pumped for it.

Also if any team needs help with pretty much anything beside mill/lathe work then you can come to our pit besides the FIRST Aid Station 599 is setting up.

As Cory said, the NASA trailer is scheduled to be there. This was a big topic of discussion on the Regional committee. We were really glad when we were told the trailer was coming as we do not have a good alternate for the Forum.

And my entire team is pumped and ready to go! It should be an interesting competition this year.

For the thousands of people who care, I will be at the So Cal regional on Saturday. I'll wear my Team Top Gun t-shirt so I should be instantly recognizable as no one else from my team will be there. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the highly coveted "Top Gun" buttons, since we gave them all away at PNW, but I could bring a big ZipLok bag of slugs if you want some, and hungry airline employees don't steal them.

ATTENTION!

All teams who do not have a 2006 Los Angeles regional inspection sticker on your robot (in otherwords, you have not completed inspection) please see the inspection table FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.

You must pass inspection in full before you will be allowed on the field. There are several teams who still have some items to finish up. If you have already passed inspection, ask your pit neighbors if they have passed inspection and if not, tell them they need to right away.

Thanks.

Time for a rant:
I know that FIRST is mostly driven by volunteers and is a non-profit organization but it makes me wonder if there is anyone there who actually knows how to use a computer.
This is the second year not a shred of official information has not been released from this regional. Not one word! That is a great disservice to FIRST! Maybe they don't think it's important because only the people there need to know but I'm sure the rest of FIRST would like to know. If from the curiosity factor of knowing what FIRST team has done what to scouting information that teams use to find out what teams to work with.
This isn't some off season competition being run out of a high school gym this is supposed to be a top of the line event. This isn't ungraciously professional or whatever (a rapidly getting very tired term) it's just unprofessional period.
I don't know who is running this event but I challenge you to show a little pride and at least do your part to the FIRST community and get the information out to to us. We deserve to know what is going on out there!

There is internet at the venue, unless the crew likes to keep a cached google in their browser. I saw it. I can't get it, but I'm 99% sure the crew does.

Re: 2006 Southern California Regional

I made it there today, and was kindly hosted by the Beach Bots (my newly-adopted SoCal team). The level of competition was about the same as PNW, I think, with fewer shooters and better drive trains -- overall. The Beach Bots have a great all-around robot. It's like they are former national champs or something. 968 is just like 254 -- scary fast and accurate. The Poofs, if I can say so, seem to drive their robot a little better at this point of the season. Either of these twins will crush you if you turn your back for one second. There were some other really impressive teams and robots, but since this is the only SoCal regional I've attended, I haven't seen most before and will certainly get their numbers wrong. (Was it 559 or 995 that had the cool ramp-shooting mode??) My friend and I had a great time, and I hope my hearing will return to normal in a day or two.

I found out Friday that I have to be in Miami on the May 1. If I just flew down a few days early and did a layover in -- say -- Atlanta...

Re: 2006 Southern California Regional

I think this has been the greatest So Cal regional experience for me (maybe because it's my last as a student). Great competition! Congratulations to the winners, you were able to dodge any problems in a match and congratulations to the runner-ups, as they provided some great matches to watch. What made more things exciting is if you were presenting Chairman's at the regional. 12 teams that were all worthy of winning made this a very competitive year for Chairman's. It definitely looks like FIRST will be expanding under the leadership of these teams.
