Team Size?
Hey guys, I was just interested as to how many people you have on your web team.
This year we had 3 people on the web team, but with all seriousness, I was the only one that know anything about anything relating to a website. I think because of this I was crippled as I couldn't even get the other two to use our CMS to post news. If I had enough evidence I could most likely get somebody off programming part time to help me work on next years site. oh yea, here's our unfinished site. Http://usfirst818.org |
Re: Team Size?
We have a three person web team.
Daune, Kenny and Marine. |
Re: Team Size?
Oh so are you the mentor? Oh yea that's what held us back too!
Our mentor knew absolutely nothing about web design and wanted me to update the news every five minutes like some news site and throw animated gif's everywhere. After doing one animated gif and writing javascript for it to repeat, all my div layers crapped out on me, therefore wasting a week of troubleshooting. THEN The sql tables failed and we had to back up to and old old backup and loose most of the stuff I had done. :ahh: I hated this year in terms of the website, last year was way more fun, with a cool mentor and helpful team members. |

They updated the website from last year and focused on the CAD page. And by the way you might want to think twice about bashing your mentors on a public messageboard and take it up in private. They are volunteers and could have easily found something else to do instead of giving their time to the team so you can publicly assassinate them in front of all of the other teams. Irregardless of what you think about them or how they work they still deserve some measure of respect. |

Other members of your team and mentor are going to see this and they may not be too pleased with what you are doing. You could get in serious trouble with this (I have seen it happen before). Think before you post. |
Re: Team Size?
Man i'm almost sick of it anyways, and this is one small thing, if I was here to just sit here and post my greviances, I would have already done it a long time ago and I would've left the team on my own.
Back to the topic: Do you have a link to your website? |

Geez that sounded creepy. |
Re: Team Size?
O0o I like that. Just gifs + frames? or did you use divs?
We had a layout like this last year but we used divs and it worked out well. |

The site was designed last year by a very talented student named Hoang who decided not to come back this year. I think he took up a sport and is doing photography for the yearbook. ![]() |
Re: Team Size?
Oh alright, awesome!
It's always such a bummer when you have somebody that does amazingly awesome then leaves. |
Re: Team Size?
I'd have to agree with Koko Ed, even if the mentor doesn't know what they're doing it isn't cool to bash them in public because they're giving up their time to help out.
We have a mentor on our team that admits that he doesn't know what he's doing but he comes to every meeting he can to offer his ideas and help out. Even though his ideas may not be great sometimes, they can either give us an idea of where we want to go with something or where we want to stay away from and it allows us to narrow our focus in on what we want to do. As far as the mentor being "bossy", you may want to talk with them about it. Back on the original subject though... this year's web team had like 3 people I think. I did all the JSP scripting and about half of the HTML, Kerstie did the other half of the HTML, and Nick did a lot of the graphics work. http://www.blarglefish.com |
Re: Team Size?
It's not that she didn't know what she was doing.
It's that she claimed she did and told us to do stuff that would've been completely wrong. such as, playing midi files on the homepage. oh. so. 1993. |
