Detroit Red Wings (NHL)

Hello, as you all can tell I want/know the Detroit Red Wings to win the cup, but others HATE the Wings. Vent here, down below!

Bill Gold 04-06-2002 19:34

GO IRBE!!! We miss him here in SJ :(.

Jeff Waegelin 04-06-2002 20:00

Wings all the way!

PS: Matt, I was waiting for this. I knew you'd do something like this before long.

Perseus 04-06-2002 22:35

even if the wings lose(which i hope so), they will just buy more players....

Two words: Salary Cap

D.J. Fluck 05-06-2002 00:43

Game 1 is over and Carolina wins in overtime 3-2

This could get interesting

I know detroit is known for comebacks...so lets see how this goes

Michael Murphy 05-06-2002 00:47

GO WHALERS!

Hey Matt, it's Carolina not North Carolina. And anyway, they're just the repackaged Hartford Whalers! Yet another (transplanted) New England team deep in the playoffs! Woo-hoo!!!

Matt Attallah 05-06-2002 07:10

All I have to say after last night's game. SLOPPY by the Red Wings. Eh, we all have bad days...

robomama 05-06-2002 09:00

Detroit is 0-5 in their last five Stanley Cups when losing the 1st game.....just food for thought

SDH at WMU 05-06-2002 22:47

Geez this is gonna be a close match.... I forgot who said it but when the wings won the avs series he said "We beat the champions (avs, last years cup), but carolina isn't at this point because of their good looks." Its easy to look at the #1 wings v. the #16 canes and say the wings should win but the canes are determined and a great team.
I hope we can beat them.
Go Wings.

Im not a red wings fan, and im rootin for the canes, but statistics mean nothing...

Patrick Roy was 5-0 in Game 7's since last year (now 5-1) and Dominick Hasek never won a game 7 in his career, up until last series....so ever since that i havent trusted past statistics

Dave Hurt 07-06-2002 09:48

Yea!!! Red Wings tie up the series 1-1. Should be intresting back in Carolina... I heard they were having problems keeping their ice frozen because of all the warm weather they've been having.... should make for some intresting hockey...

Robocardgrl5 07-06-2002 18:48

I'm with Matt. We're not called Hockeytown for nothing!!!!! We have the best guys. New and old which brings new skills and experience together. For all you who caught Thursday's game it was just beautiful. First, Maltby scored. Then when it seemed hope was gone and overtime would come we scored not once but twice. within 13 seconds!!!!! i give props to Larinov and Draper. Wings are going all the way. So for all you Wings haters out there: WINGS KICK BUTT!!!! Carolina is going down in blaze of humiliation. Go wings. :)

Matt Attallah 07-06-2002 23:42

Hey,

We are not here to bash on the defenceless Canes'. They are a very, very good team, and they stunned us in game 1. I do give them credit, but, honestley. ALL THE NHL FANS OUT THERE, do you, agian honestley, see a nother team like Detroit any time soon? So, before you say "Wings Suck" rember 1 thing. We are the best team, bar-none. I don't care what you say. When you read all thoes names on paper, all you can think is WOW!

Just my .02. Please, all wings fans, no Canes' bashing yet. We are tied w/ them, so they are just as good as us right now...

Clark Gilbert 07-06-2002 23:49

uhh......

Hmmm....

My vote went for the Hurricanes, because for some reason reason all Detroit fans seem to either take it way to seriously or there is just something "different" about them...

D.J. Fluck 11-06-2002 01:15

i think the "different" here means that we're different because we are so much better than any other place. plus, everybody knows that the wings lost the first game on purpose, whats the point of winning the cup on the road??

devious_star 12-06-2002 14:11

Differences in Detroit

Detroit is one of the only places where you will see 3rd and 4th line jerseys sported by the fans along with the "superstars". I have seen Darren McCarty, Kirk Maltby, Boyd Deveraux, and Mattiu Dandenault jerseys right alongside the Steve Yzerman, Shanahan, Hull, Robitaille, Fedorov, etc. I think that it is wonderful that the detroit fans embrace the entire team and not just the "big names". So many times in other arenas fans only support the Forsbergs, Sakics, Madanos, and Prongers...
That is why Detroit is different.

I'd just like to also say that i am so proud of the NHL for giving Jiri Fischer that game suspension...that hit was totally uncalled for. Shame on you Jiri :(

kane 12-06-2002 20:47

Did anyone see that cheep shot that Fischer dished out. God man how stupid can you be, and i can't belive that he wasen't called on that thats a 5 minute major ejection and suspension, all he got was suspended after the game. Then he says he wouldn't have gotten up if the cross check was intentional, i was watching it and i don't see how you unintentinally bring your hands up to somebodys face and push forward but hey what do i know. That could have changed the game and it was a cheep shot he deserves the suspension.

devious_star 14-06-2002 00:14

wtg redwings

The Stanley Cup is coming home to Detroit!!! Congrats to all the cup winners...and to think that I actually got to kiss it. How wonderful. Nick Lidstrom is the Conn Smythe trophy winner. What a great night for hockey and for the city of Detroit and for all of the Redwing fans.

Who else is super-sad that Scotty Bowman isn't coming back?? What a way to go out, though.

I only wish that I could have been in Hockeytown for the celebration...but that is what I get for having a job.

Dave Hurt 14-06-2002 01:29

Actually, Bowman isn't going to be completly gone. They said he's going to stick around for a couple years as a consultant. I havn't heard for sure if anyone else is going with him, but I'm guessing Hasak will retire, along with Larinov.

devious_star 14-06-2002 02:02

hasek had a terrific season with the wings...i think that he might come back. Stevey already said that he has a few years left in him, and i think that luc robitaille and brett hull will also come back. i wouldn't really be surprised not to see igor larionov in the roster next year. he is 41 years old after all, but he is still playing very well. I guess that we will just have to wait and see.

Even without Scotty the wings will do just fine in years to come. With young talent like deveraux, williams, datsuyk, and fischer, look for good things to come. I think that Dave Lewis will come on as the head coach and he has had the pleasure of working with Bowman for so many years...I also wouldn't be surprised if yzerman decided to coach in the years to come.

Definatly alot to look forward in the coming months and years. Long live the spirit in detroit.

robomama 14-06-2002 19:58

congrats

to the wings.
i guess we will have to see them again next year at the finals!!

go canes!!!

DanLevin247 15-06-2002 12:16

Wahoo! I knew we could do it. The canes played a great series, but still were no match for our wings! Congrads to the wings on bringing home the cup again! 3 times in 6 years! The parade is on monday, I plan on going!

Jessica L. 15-06-2002 22:24

congrats

Well congrats red wings...even though the canes shoulda won...:( As a local tv reporter said, "The Carolina Hurricanes have now turned into sort of a tropical depression!" Even though I like the canes I still think it's really funny. I wouldn't have expected a tv reporter to say that...I would think Jay Leno or David Letterman would say it...oh well. Congrats again! :)

MIM ROCKS!

D.J. Fluck 16-06-2002 03:39

Scotty is gone...whos next?

Matt Attallah 16-06-2002 09:21

*evil grin*

Shame on all you that said the wings will not do it this year. I told you, AND YOU NEVER GO AGINST THE WORD OF A DETROIT FAN!! Shame on you if you did.

GO WINGS! WE WIN!

D.J. Fluck 16-06-2002 14:26

To me, the Red Wings winning is a story of the past...ya a whole 4 days or whatever...but its still the past..Time to look towards the future of next year.

Any ideas whos replacing Scotty?

devious_star 16-06-2002 20:53

Scotty's replacement

my guess would be that the assistant coach Dave Lewis would replace Scotty. But I would love to see Igor Larionov replace Scotty...he has a great hockey mind. In reality though I think that Dave Lewis or Barry Smith(the other assistant coach...I think that is his name) will replace Scotty. I am so sad that I will no longer get to see Scotty behind the bench in that awesome blue suit that he always wears. I am, however, relieved that he will remain with the organization.

So, who is coming back next year? My guesses would be Robitaille, Hull, Yzerman, Chelios, and even Hasek will return...that is just my thought. All of the other guys will return minus Larionov, i think that he may have played his last hockey, although i would love to see him return. I don't think that they will keep Uwe Krupp...not that that is a big loss anyway. Heck, he hasn't done anything, well, ever.
