Israel Regional thread with updates
Since the event is not being webcast and I am sure most of you are wondering what a FIRST event in Israel is all about i am going to do my best to keep you up to date on what is going on.
So far: I got here about 2 hrs ago after leaving Manchester at 11am yesterday. lets just say 10+ hr flights aren't that much fun even with a bunch of movies at your disposal. Right now i am in the event office at the Nokia basketball stadium in Tel Aviv. The rigging is just now going up and we are going to be starting setup on the field very soon, and since that is the case i am going to leave now and go help. I am taking photos and if i have some free time (not likely) i will try to post them for you all. |

Re: Israel Regional thread with updates
update 2: it is now 10:39 pm and we are still at the arena. Alot of students from the local teams are here and we are working diligently to get everything done. There have been some early mistakes but as of right now things are moving better. Things like the language barrier and the lack of local suppliers for stuff we need. Overall this has been an interesting setup although it feels like it is taking forever but it will be worth it in the end.

Re: Israel Regional thread with updates
Forgot to check this forum before I posted a thread about the regional
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=45990 Hopefully (if the video guys can find the right adapter) there will be videos of the regional, that later will be uploaded to SOAP or our site. |
Re: Israel Regional thread with updates
How are you guys handling the language barrier? Are announcements and MC introductions being made in both languages? It seems to me that this is one of the larger problems in hosting international events.
|
Re: Israel Regional thread with updates
I don't know how it will be done tomorrow, but today all anouncements were done in english. Most israelis know english at a good enough level to understand this stuff.
I think tomorrow the pit announcements are still going to be in english, but the team introductions and game explanation will be in both languages (like last year). The language barrier was really not a big deal today. In the worst case, someone near by came and translated. |
Re: Israel Regional thread with updates
The regional went fine today, there weren't any problems that I heard of except for the fact that during the first match the automous mode wasn't turned on so there was a bit of a mess. My team is currenty ranked 2 with a 7-0-0 record. Im pretty sure that first place is 1578 with 7-1-0 with a higher avg. ranking points than us. We had a great time today.

Re: Israel Regional thread with updates
There is video of the first half of the day. The videos will hopefully be uo soon and I will post a link. The videos from today have no sound (couldn't find an xlr to rca adapter, if such adapter exists.)
I hope tomorrow this will be fixed and I will be able to upload all of the matches and awards, with sound and scores and everything. David |
