So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Here are the nominies:
190 Gompei the H.E.R.D. 25 Raider Robotics 384 Sparky 492 Titans 842 Falcon Robotics 48 Delphi E.L.I.T.E. 340 G.R.R. Robotics 233 The Pink Team 66 Willow Run Robotics 365 M.O.E. 71 Team Hammond 236 Techno Ticks 45 Technokats 612 Robo Knights 217 THunderchickens 111 WIldstang 1002 The Circutrunners 192 G.R.T. 383 The Brazillian MAchine 245 Adamsbots 375 Robotic Plauge 514 RPM 812 The Midnight Mechanics 1114 Simbotics 1108 Panther Robotics 1657 Boeing & Mevoot Eron 159 Alpine Robotics 522 The Robowizards 79 The Navigators 922 ULTIMATE: United Longhorn Team Inspiring Mental Attitude Towards Engineering 1398 Robo-Raiders 357 Royal Assault 503 Frog Force Well the first thing I notice is that the favorites from the last couple of years 118 and 341 are not in the mix making the race wide open. This year alot of "old warriors" in FIRST are getting thier just rewards and definately are at the top of the favorite list. My pick goes to 45 the Technokats who were finalist in '94 and '96 and haven't had a sniff of a Chairman's since. Their good works are ledgendary and they are one of the greatest example of what is so great about FIRST. Note: If you are going to toot your own team's horn feel free to do so but you have to tell us why. Not just because they're great. There's 32 other great teams here so that's a very weak reason. Build us a case why the team is great not just because you feel your team is being neglected. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I feel that 1114 has a strong chance because they've been sewing patches of FIRST throughout their community and working hard to spread first's message. There will be another Niagra Team next year, and I think its clear to see that the triplets have become quite united, but at the same time, any one of them could function independently both on and off the field. Their sponsor recognition and FLL involvement is a great bonus as well. I hope that judges dont ignore this entry, and that they will make the best decision overall.

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Wow, what an impressive list of CA winning teams. I really don't see how anybody can say their team deserves it more than others on this list because we just don't know most other teams history and what they do in the community.
The judges in Atlanta will have a very tough job finding a Championship CA winner. While any team would love to win it including 1002, what a legacy of teams there are in the running! Good luck to everyone! Dave |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
If I voted with my heart I would choose 1114. I feel however that I have seen a lot from 1 team that puts them a little ahead of others I know or have seen. I will go out on a limb and say 217.
|
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Right now I think it will be 45, 71, or 217. Though somethings telling me 45 will win.
|
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Those 32 teams up there are STAR teams. We all know the reason why, but choosing one of those stars is going to be really difficult. In my one and half year experience with FIRST, i learned that all teams contribute to wards their community in different ways, and they all deserve something.
I"m really not sure, if history can play an important role in determining whose the winners, but as Dean has said "At the end everyone is going to be a winner." As part of Team 612, i see alot of competition out there. This is the first time in our 6 year history that we've made it to this point. But the way we've evolved in just one year, is one of its own example. I really don't care who wins the CA; our team is going to Atlanta to celebrate its victory as being part of FIRST, in fact we all are going there to celebrate out victories. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
236.. They won Chairman's at multiple events for the past 4 years in a row. It's time to make them win at the national level to give someone else a chance at the regional level.
And I think they actually do deserve to win at the National level as well. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I believe that 357 deserves it this year!
|
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I am thinking that 612 and 236 may be the favorites to win it this year.
|
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
It really needs to go to one of the multiple-winners. I am curious to see if there is a decline in RCA entries at those events where a multiple-winner is attending.
But, it could really go either way. There's lots of great teams that recieved it this year! |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Well, i dont really know what all the teams have done, hopefully some of them will step up and let us know what they do. But from what i do knkow...
My vote goes with M.O.E. they relly have an outstanding program over there that has been building over the years and didn't they get Honorable Mention last year. They do Robot walk/run to raise awareness, they have the FYI (First Year Info base) set up for rookie teams, they are doing FLL tournaments, and much much more. They are a famous team and everyone knows there bright color. Sorry to dissappoint you Ed, that 118 wont be competing at the national level this year, but the Lone Star Region has a large number of teams competing and a lot of them have some high quality programs. If anything it will keep 118 working harder and hopefully we will be back ready to compete at the national level again next year. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I think 812 has a decent shot. They did win the championship EI two years ago and won SoCal twice in a row now. The description that was read was extremely impressive and won in a very stacked chairmans lineup of teams that have won regional chairmans in the past.
|
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I'm gonna say either 192 or 383.
Most people have read the articles and things about 192, and if they did a bang up job on their submission, I think they would have a chance to win. While I don't know much about the Brazilian Machine, they have to have played a big role in expanding FIRST in Brazil and South America. Bringing FIRST to another continent, that seems like a winner. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
My top 5: 236, 365, 217, 111, 383
236 has won four in a row. I'm certain it's not because there's a lack of competition in New England. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Quote:
As for who to win this year, there are many deserving teams. Looking down the list, I can cite reasons for each team to win. Judging the Championship CA must be the hardest thing to do in FIRST. I'd rather try to stop an alliance of 1114, 111, and 25 from scoring 3 pointers than to judge the CA between these teams. I'll go out on a limb and make an underdog pick: 812 Andy B. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
[originally posted in another thread because I missed seeing this one]
This is an impressive list. Makes me wonder how on earth the CA judges at Championship are going to choose just one team to join the HOF this year. To follow up on that thought: as FIRST adds regional events, the opportunities for regional medals and awards increase proportionally. And there's still just one Championship, so just one team per year gets into the HOF. Many exemplary teams may never make it in, because other exemplary teams are developing every year. I don't mean to slight any team by mentioning the only ones that I have directly observed recently; my choices for the 2006 Chairman's Award would be 45, 71, 111, and 1114. I'd find it very difficult to make a single choice, but if pressed I'd vote for 71. Reasons: (1) four championships -- I understand that FIRST isn't only about winning, but in 71's case the winning is evidence of an exceptionally strong overall program, and (2) FIRST's most productive alumni association -- just look around and see where former Hammond team members are now, what they've done for FIRST, the teams they've started. |

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Wheeler 1002. They've been in first 4 years and have 3 regional chairman's awards. I think I'm gonna go with M.O.E. though. They are an awesome team with an awesome history within FIRST.
|
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I agree with those who said that it has to be one of the repeat regional winners.... =\ Not only is it more justifiable to give the award to one of these teams who has consistantly shown their stuff, but it allows another team to step up to the plate at a regional.

Imagine Redateam has won the Magnolia Regional Chairman's Award for the past four seasons. Their program is a good one, one that registers a 9.1418 on Billfred's Change-The-Culture-O-Meter, which is known to be the best measurement of how worthy a team is to win the Chairman's Award. Now imagine Bluateam, which recently won their first Chairman's Award ever at the Pinetree Regional. Their program registers a 9.7525 on the Change-The-Culture-O-Meter. Assuming the judges can tell the difference without a Change-The-Culture-O-Meter (development was kinda sidelined by build season), who should have the Peter Gabriel played for them a second time this season? Speaking of Peter Gabriel's "Big Time," I do hope they play it for the Chairman's winner in Atlanta. I mean, after hearing it in person or over the webcast for four weeks of regionals, not playing it just wouldn't feel right. ;) |

Nice job on the list of Regional CA winners websites. I would like to see a copy of their CA submissions too. Last year on CD, there was a request for the 2005 CA winners to post their CA submissions for viewing. I was great to read them. It would be nice if the 2006 CA winners do the same this year. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
My top three are:
1) 45 - Same reasons as Ed 2) 79 - They RCA's every year since 2003 and when they were awarded at Las Vegas the judges said 'This team has accomplished the goals set fourth by Dean every year' 3) 812 - Won the SoCal RCA last year. When I saw them awarded at the SoCal Regional the judges said 'This team gets FIRST...'. |

Your Team Number: 842 Team Name, Corporate / University Sponsors: Arthur M. Blank Foundation/Honeywell/Intel/Phelps-Dodge/Wells-Fargo & Carl Hayden High School Briefly describe the impact of the FIRST program on team participants. In a school that was noted for a high dropout rate, over the last 3 years our FIRST graduates are not only the first in their family to graduate from high school, but 100% have gone on to the military or college, most with scholarships. After experiencing the “hard fun” challenges of FIRST, participants want to prepare themselves for a challenging, important career and yet still find time to inspire younger students. Examples of role model characteristics for other teams to emulate. We don’t do just robots. We are involved with the Arizona and U.S. legislature. We mentor 10 FLL teams and we host the 50 team State FLL Competition on our campus. Our year round engineering activities include building full size electric race cars, ham radio, alt. fuel go-karts, and an underwater ROV. Realizing the value in VEX, we were the first AZ team to form four all-girl teams on our campus, and to inspire junior high and junior colleges to participate with us. Describe the impact of the FIRST program on your team and community. 50 individuals on the robotics team have come together and bonded to form a single unit, which is the pride of our community. A community once known for gangs is now known for its robotics teams. Educators and policy makers from around the country come to our campus to see the positive affects of the Falcon Robotics. The Arizona IEEE wants to form the first Arizona high school chapter at Carl Hayden. Teams innovative methods to spread the FIRST message. We made over 45 presentations this year to students and teachers from 2nd graders to universities, as well as to parents, legislatures, and professional groups. Our publicity campaign netted over 25 articles (English and Spanish) in local, national, and international publication, and 18 media broadcasts, including ABC News Nightline. Warner Bros. is making a movie and we are in the Congressional Record. Describe the strength of your partnership. Our 15 year partnership with Phelps Dodge has expanded to include Intel, Honeywell, Wells Fargo, and smaller businesses in our neighborhood. Employees from these companies as well as Microchip, and Inventivity donate talent and funds to Hayden. In turn support Arizona teams as far south as Sierra Vista to the northern Navajo Reservation. We are also mentoring other rookie teams from South Carolina and Georgia as well as continuing our relationship with Team1401 from Mexico City. Teams communication methods and results. We reach a broad audience by hosting a bilingual website, speaking to diverse groups of people—mentoring young students, briefing state legislators and influencing legislation—and communicating through national media: TV, magazines, NPR radio, and countless Internet articles. We correspond with sponsors via conference calls, email, and site visits where several team members lead the dialogue. These communication efforts resulted in global recognition of our team hence the recognition of FIRST. Other matters of interest to the FIRST judges, if any. The Falcon Robotics primary goal is to positively affect our culture. More of our students are going into engineering and other technical careers, state and national leaders are calling us a model program, but it was not until Wired magazine, ABC News Nightline, Hollywood, and MTV reported our impact on our students and community that we realized how much influence our students have on the culture. Carl Hayden High School Falcon Robotics team 842 Annalisa, the president of the Falcon Robotics club, finishes her part of the presentation declaring that for the last three years, all of the club seniors have gone on to college or the military. Governor Napolitano asks her if she always wanted to go into engineering. Annalisa replies, “I never planned on going to college until I became a “FIRSTer”, but now I will be going to ASU polytechnic campus to major in technology and business. With all the responsibilities and experiences I’ve handled, I know I want to do this for a living.” Presenting in front of the governor and her education council, which includes the presidents of the three universities and school superintendents from around the state, was only one of the 45 presentations members of the team made in the last 12 months. The FIRST message has been heard not only by hundreds of policy makers, but by local second and third graders. Marco, a sophomore, and Rebecca, a junior, will never forget their two hour participation with the toughest crowd ever: the second graders at Lela Alston. The robotics team brought the FIRST robot, as well as a Lego robot, a VEX robot and several of the promotional videos. Several demos, hundreds of questions and two hundred hugs later, Marco knew what it felt like to be a hero. The boys all wanted to be an inventor like Marco; the girls wanted to be a robot builder like Rebecca. The year 2005 was a banner year for Falcon Robotics. April’s Wired magazine featuring, the team’s ROV (Remotely Operated underwater Vehicle) brought national attention to the club. ABC News Nightline accompanied team 842 to the 2005 national FIRST championship where Carl Hayden H. S. was presented the Engineering Inspiration award. The half hour national program was aired in May. The story appeared on the front page of the Arizona Republic and as far away as The Press in Christchurch, New Zealand. The students have been interviewed three times on National Public Radio and by the BBC in Ecuador, in Spanish. The largest teacher organization in the U.S. printed an article about robotics, technology, and education written by our teachers, Allan Cameron and Fredi Lajvardi. How does a team reach such a large audience? While it may appear like a lucky break, it is a result of believing that people really do appreciate those who work with science and technology and we are willing to appear anywhere, anytime. We have also learned the power of writing the press release. One such press release finally reached Josh Davis, a writer for Wired magazine. He contacted us and asked, “Are you people for real?” He attended the AZ kickoff, AZ regional and went with us to Nationals. He has become a great friend and advocate of the FIRST message. He has become part of the network of professionals who we have met over the years who created the Falcon “lucky breaks.” Cristian is working on the 2006 ROV while he is chatting with U.S. Congressman, Ed Pastor. Representative Pastor is so impressed with the kids technical work and impact on the community, that he spoke about the Falcon Robotics team and Dean Kamen’s dream on the floor of the U.S. Congress. Team 842 is now in the Congressional Record, a part of U.S. history. Ed Pastor has asked for copies of our DVD and publications to lobby other federal legislators to provide resources and incentives to bring programs like FIST to every school. State Representative David Lujan is visibly excited while talking with Luis and Pablo. He’s been trying to find a way to improve math and science education in Arizona. The team has been telling him it’s more of an attitude problem rather than a curriculum issue. Representative Lujan is impressed and after discussing the teams proposed Arizona Extracurricular Academic Association (AEAA) that promotes math and science activities after school and on the weekends, he writes draft legislation to promote and fund FIRST, FLL and other math and science activates for Arizona schools. Governor Napolitano, who has a third meeting with the Falcons, includes a $1,000,000 in her budget proposal to encourage FIRST-like activities. Gerica graduated in May and is now sitting in Boston during a freezing snowstorm. Like many of the Hayden students, she is the first in her family to graduate from high school and like all the robotics team members, she decided college was essential, but it would require a scholarship to finance her dreams. While in Atlanta for the FIRST National, the team visited the Arthur M. Blank foundation’s headquarters and presented the team’s message. Mr. Blank is the cofounder of Home Depot. The staff and officers were impressed with the “gracious professionalism” of the students and their involvement in the student’s community. While visiting the “trophy room”, Gerica mentioned that Arthur Blank’s college picture had the Babson College logo in it. When they asked if she was going to the prestigious business college, she replied that although she had been admitted, the tuition was way out of the question and scholarship applications deadlines had passed. Two months later, Gerica was awarded a “full ride” scholarship. The “hard fun” of the robotics team has prepared Gerica for the “hard fun” of Babson. The warmth of the Blank Foundation offsets the frigid Boston winter. Scholarships are important for our community. Per capita income in our neighborhood is $9,000, yet because of our FIRST activities, many of our students are seeking and receiving scholarships. The team has inspired ASU to create the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, Science, Math, and Engineering Competition Award for a student who has “fully participated in a regional or national science, math, or engineering competition”. It specifically mentions FIRST and the MATE ROV competitions as examples. A Falcon graduate received the first one. A group of businessmen, impressed with the aspirations of the robotics students, has created the Maecenas Fund which will provide over $200,000 in scholarships for Hayden students. Four robotics students were awarded four year tuition, room and board scholarships. More importantly, they will be mentored by some very wise patrons. A wonderful lady, Alex, contacted our club and has “adopted” one of our graduated FIRST members, Emma. Emma has transferred from the local community college to the university because Alex is paying her tuition, dorm room and food allowance. Emma will probably visit Alex in China this summer! Victor is a freshman with experience. At Issac Middle school, he was a member of the FLL team that was coached by Hayden students. In turn, this year Victor was a mentor to his alma mater. In 2005 the Falcon Robotics team mentored 10 FLL teams. The neighborhood around Carl Hayden is becoming the “robot hood”. After the few glitches in the sound system were solved, Victor tried to count the number of people in the stands. Maybe 500? The third annual AZ regional FIRST Lego League competition was about to get underway. Forty schools from around the state filled the three gymnasiums at Hayden. The Falcons with ham radio licenses were in charge of communications and the kids who built the ROV’s underwater camera system wired 10 classrooms with audio and video so parents could remotely watch their Lego students’ presentations. Victor was proud of his school. Angelica is spending another Saturday at school. Everything seems to take longer than she thought it would. The VEX playing field took longer than expected. None of the girls had ever used power tools before. Angelica was good in math and science and now she discovers she also likes working with her hands and figuring out how make things work. Angelica, a junior, is now very interested in studying engineering. The all-girls Vex team was formed specifically to give the girls an opportunity to gain hands on experience. The Falcons had been concerned that girls on the robotics team seemed to shy away from the construction and fabrication activities, so when the VEX kits became available, the team bought four kits and formed the Carl Hayden VEXens. Even though there is no VEX regional competition, the VEXens will scrimmage with a team at Phoenix Community College and perform demo matches at the Arizona regional. The numbers for 2005-2006: Google Hits for “Carl Hayden” & “Falcon Robotics”: 5,850 Percentage of Falcon graduates entering college or military: 100% Active weeks per year: 52 Number of teams at AZ FLL: 50 Presentations given: 45 Print Publications: 25 Radio and TV broadcasts: 18 FLL teams mentored: 10 Adult Mentors (non teachers): 7 Countries reporting on team 842: 6 New 4-year Scholarships created this year for Robotics team: 6 FIRST high schools mentored: 5 Hayden teachers who spend FIRST weekends: 5 Visits to Governor’s office: 3 Colleges and Universities mentored: 2 Legislation drafted: 1 Then there was all the traveling for competitions, presentations, and awards: FIRST Nationals, Atlanta, GA MATE ROV National, Houston, TX NextFest, Chicago, IL National Council of La Raza, Philadelphia, PA Teacher of the Year Awards, ETS & College Board, Princeton, NJ IEEE National Pre College Teachers of the Year, Orlando, FL John Wells Productions & Warner Brothers, Burbank, CA Annalisa stares at the empty table where our robot, Karen, was built. The day after shipping is always a quiet day. Partly due to the lack of sleep and stress, but also because it’s a time for reflection. What a year! Meetings with the governor, lawmakers, industry leaders, university presidents; trips across the country; speaking in front of large crowds; winning and losing; long nights and longer days; mountains of paperwork; endless deadlines; creating new teams… Cameron barges in, “We just got a phone call from MTV. They want to do a documentary!” She wonders if college will be this exciting. |

Heres the CA Submission of Team 612
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/1816 I"m really not sure if history really matters as far as determining the winner of CA at championship, but i think the competition is going to be tough. This is the FIRST year team 612 is on the scene. May be thats why most of the people really don't know about us and our efforts. Hopefully our CA Submission will help you understand our team and the efforts we put together to spread the word of FIRST to the community; and mainly to create an IMPACT and CHANGE the future. Following are some of the latest accomplishments of team 612 http://www.nasm.edu/events/spotlight_may.cfm A press release from Smithsonian National Air and Space Science Museum. also http://wusa9.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=46169 Heres another way we IMPACT our community, and make a difference. My top five
217 503 111 365 66 M.O.E is the most likely canidate because they knocked off 341 at whatever regional they won at. I have a theory that Wildstang might have the same year as H.O.T. They won two regionals and a Chairmans this year. 217 and 503 are my sentimental picks because they are two of my favorite Michigan teams, and have excellent programs. The Flyers are my darkhorse team. They have influenced many Michigan teams and have a number less that 254 which makes them a possibility. |

My top 5 CA nominees
1.) 1114 2.) 45 3.) 111 4.) 217 5.) 383 1114 - These guys are one of the largest driving forces behind the spread of FIRST in Canada. They have a great foundation to start and spread FIRST throughout thier area of Canada. They also create and spread inspiration throughout thier high school students and even other members of FIRST. 45 - An old war horse come back. Technokats have seen the Chairmans award before. This team knows what it takes to get the chairmans and they have done it all. 111 - Not only does this team produce high quality robots each year they continuely produce inspired students and spread the word of FIRST. 217 - This team seems to be an underdog for me. I'm not 100% sure what all they do but I know that with leaders as involved as they have not only can they inspire thier students on the team, but they inspire everyone. This is a team that you can work with in one match or just even meet at a competition and have them affect you 383 - The Machine. Just as Simbots are a driving force in Canada this team is the driving force in Brazil. So far they have seen and participated in Dean's homework of spreading the message of FIRST. These guys are my in the dark pick. |

At Philly, while the adults on our team were busy feeling sad about not getting selected this year, a few of our students came to us and said they wanted to help Team 357 get ready for their Championship interview. Not because they need our help, but because we respect them and they are our friends. I was filled with joy because it meant we were still a Chairmans Team at our core. Every year that we won Chairmans I felt sadness for the great teams that did not get selected that year. Our overwhelming joy was always mixed with a sense of honor and respect for the other candidates. It is a competition, but it is a contest against yourself to do better each year. Not an opportunity to defeat someone else. Congratulations to all of this years Chairmans Teams, We honor and respect you all!! |

In 5 years of Regional Chairman's Awards, 3 teams have won it at Philly: 341, 357, & 365. Some of the awards these teams have won are: Team 341: 3 RCA, 2 CAHM & 1 EI 2006 MD Engineering Inspiration Award 2005 CMP Chairman's Award Honorable Mention 2005 MD Regional Chairman's Award 2004 CMP Chairman's Award Honorable Mention 2004 PA Regional Chairman's Award 2003 PA Regional Chairman's Award Team 357: 2 RCA, & 3 EI 2006 PA Regional Chairman's Award 2006 FL Engineering Inspiration Award 2005 PA Engineering Inspiration Award 2004 PA Engineering Inspiration Award 2003 MD Regional Chairman's Award Team 365: 3 RCA, & 1 CAHM 2006 PIT Regional Chairman's Award 2005 CMP Chairman's Award Honorable Mention 2005 PA Regional Chairman's Award 2002 PA Regional Chairman's Award These 3 teams (and many others) make it very difficult for the Philly Judges to select just one. These are 3 multiple RCA winning teams that compete with each other both regionally and nationally. Each team has "knocked-off" the others at some point in the course of 5 years. However, the Chairman's Award is not about besting other teams. It is about bettering your team and the community. Now, back to the original point of this thread, speculating about this year's Chairman's. I hope 383 (still pending) goes to Atlanta. I think they have a good shot at CA since FIRST is becoming more international. A couple interesting facts: The only multiple Regional CA winner to win the CA is 254 (2 RCA). 175, 103, & 67 only won 1 RCA The youngest HOF member is 254 (rookie year 1999) A few HOF teams have rookie year 1997, but no one with 1998 151 (1995) and 191 (1992) both won the CA in their rookie year (there may be others I just can't find the data) |

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Michigan pride makes me say "Chickens" - they rock.
But everything else in me says "Kats" When I am telling someone about FIRST, I always say: "California and Michigan have an amazing number of teams... technology and automotive industry are behind that. Oh, and Indiana, for some reason, has the most amazing teams." My dark horse is 71, because, dude - they are ALSO from Indiana. Indiana - building a robot army to take over the country. |

I know that 612 has not won the Regional CA before, but they are a really impressive team. Get a look at them if you get the chance. I would also put 365, 236, 383, and 1114 on my list of people with a really strong chance. I don't really know some of the other teams, but all of the one's I have mentioned are amazing teams. |

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Lots of great teams. Here are a few of my favorites though:
25 - Probably one of the most influential teams in the northeast. They've helped spread the message of FIRST and started REALLY quality teams since their inception. Great mentors and great students. They really embody the spirit of FIRST. Not to mention they host a terrific off-season event. 365 - It's MOE! They're loud and they're proud! I love MOE and the energy they always bring to the competitions. They're really active with FLL and they also host the wonderful Duel on the Delaware event. Again, this team is really a role model FIRST team. 1114 - Would FIRST in Canada really be where it is today without this team? I love their innovative approaches to setting up truly quality FIRST programs in Canada. The hardwork they put into spreading FIRST is so readily apparent. 383 - I've been down to Brazil and I've seen how awesome this team is. FIRST is so big in their in school! They have their own 'robot house'!!! Anyway, they were key in expanding FIRST support down in Brazil. Every year they overcome countless obstacles that most US teams will never have to face. And what's even more amazing, they do it with a smile! Amazing team! Other favorites: 71, 111 - Old-time favorite teams of mine. When I think FIRST, these teams always come to mind. And for good reason! Just my 2cents. Good luck to all the teams!! :) |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
I am on one of the competing teams, so I will not play any favorites whatsoever, etc. etc.
However, I would like to say one thing to all competing RCA winning teams: Good luck, and do your best. ;) We'll see you there! |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
357 has a very impressive resume this year, with strong historical support. They won the RCA in Philly, against 341, and the EI in UCF, against 79 and others.
365 is a multiple RCA team, with a very long and impressive history. They run an off-season FRC competition, and an actual FVC regional event. 612 has one of the truly unique stories to spread, about their "baby walker" project, as well as a very strong bond with the Smithsonian. 1002 will be the first 4 digit team to win the Championship CA, and has one of the best programs in FIRST. I'm not sure if this is the year though (keep on trying guys!) 45, 71, and 111 all have impressive resumes as well. My "favorites" this year would have to be 357 or 365. 1002 will win in the next couple of years, and if 612 keeps doing what they are doing, they will certainly have one in the next few years as well. 1114 may win one eventually, but I don't see it coming very soon. NiagaraFIRST is definately impressive, but compared to a few other programs, it still has some work left to do. |
Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Personally I hope that 1002 wins I believe they really deserve it.

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
My vote would be for 842 (Falcon Robotics), they may not have the high zoot stuff of teams like 45, 357, so on, but if you look at what they do and where they're from, they IMHO represent the vision of FIRST in an especially great manner. I don't think they will win, but I wish they would.

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?
Well as most people know by now, the Chairman's award went to team #111, Wildstang and I am sure it was well deserved. Their team involvement over the past year was a very impressive list of community activities as described by John Abele last night.
Congratulations to team #111 for winning the Championship Chairman's award! Dave |
