Tri State Area Teams

For teams in NY, NJ, CT...

Where do you go for off season competitions? My team is located on Long Island and we are frantically trying to find some good offseason competitions to go to. Because my school's policy and the lateness of testing/school events, we have a very small time frame to actually go places in and an even smaller time frame to get the necessary permission, I need this information quickly. So even if the official event information is not posted yet, where do you usually go? What is the general time frame? # of teams? How many days? Are there fun social things to do besides robotics?

I am preferably looking for something in the spring/early summer because Ill be graduating and wont be able to do things in the fall ::tear::

Well, I know I'm going to be at Monty Madness on May 20th. Check it out at www.montymadness.org. Its hosted by team 1403 and some great teams are already signed up. Its a little ways away from you guys, but I'm sure it would be worth the trip!

Oh, and just because you're graduating definitely doesn't mean your robotics life is over... really... you couldn't take me away if you tried.

BBBB BRUNSWICK ERUPTION V will be held this year in North Brunswick, NJ. Last year, the event was huge, with an awesome amount of teams attending.

If you're looking to go to an offseason, definately look into BE, it's usually held late october -> early november.

Other ones to consider are Ramp Riot, Duel on the Deleware, PARC, etc. You can probably find info on these by searching the forums, or pming the respective teams.

Although not directly in the tri-state area, THE spring-summer offseason to be at in New England is Battlecry @ WPI.

Agree, Battlecry is the place to be. We also attend Beantown Blitz at Northeastern. I don't know if there is info on that posted somewhere yet. ::looks around:: I know there are people who could answer that better than me. PARC is a longer way away, but it's a good time. I guess neither of these are in the try state area. :)

There is also Bash at the Beach in Old Lyme, CT that is held in October each year. 177 didn't attend last year, but I belive we have in the past, and teams like 1511 from upper NY, and 228 from Meriden attended last year.

My team attended both PARC and Ramp Riot last year. Both are great, one-day events.

Re: Tri State Area Teams

Thanks everyone for mentioning Monty Madness, hope to see you all there!

Typically this is how Off-Seasons go in the tri-state area, since it is most cost effective for two teams that want to run an off season they both split the travel costs since the field comes free, you just pay for shipping. Because of that fact, off-seasons tend to happen in streaks, so here are some dates that maybe of use.

Spring Off Seasons
  • PARC - Hosted by 222
    • May 13th in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania
    • One of the best events year in and year out, now in it's 9th year it's one of the oldest off seasons and draws a great team list every year
    • Registration is $250 and 13 teams have already signed up
  • Monty Madness - Hosted by 1403
      • (Note the Website URL change, its MontyMadness.org , not .com as earlier listed)
    • May 20th in Skillman, New Jersey
    • This year will be our first Off Season, but we have a massive venue and we are making sure everything goes as smooth as we can
    • Registration costs $150 and at least 22 teams are planning on attending
Other Summer Offseasons
  • Beantown Blitz - Boston, MA
  • BattleCry @ WPI - Worcester, MA
Other Fall Offseasons
  • Duel on the Delaware - Delaware
  • Deer Park Invitational - Long Island
  • Bash at the Beach - Connecticut
  • Ramp Riot - Pennsylvania
  • Brunswick Eruption - New Jersey

Re: Tri State Area Teams

Already posted, however, some additional info:

MONTY MADNESS - Montgomery, NJ, hosted by 1403, I know the most about this one... Bound to be a great event, hosted by a great team in their crazy new high school.

DUEL ON THE DELAWARE - South NJ/North DE, not sure, great event co-run by two FIRST teams, about 30 participants with a very wide range of team ages. Great venue, staff, and good food.

BRUNSWICK ERUPTION - I didn't personally attend this event, but I can tell from my team's experience that it was great, and definitely recommended for those who are in the area and can attend next year.

:)

Thanks everyone for the information.

My team will definitely be going to either PARC or Monty Madness or maybe even both (now we're just getting crazy). Awaiting final decisions and what not and then will sign up with the greatest of speeds.
