555

You all NEED to use the timer chip in your name. I'm a mechanical engineer and *I* know about the 555 chip. It's like the most famous ever!!!

As for Team Lightning, 862, I think our name/number link is obvious.

Team 931 is Perpetual Chaos. The summation is new this year, it equals up to 931. We all love it, especially two prior students turned mentors who got tattoos here is a pic of one.

Ironically enough, I'm studying electrical engineering.

Well, apparently the team is made up or was made up of two different teams, and the school mascots were cowboys and indians, and they were trying to find a name that would mesh the two. And one of the kids suggested pioneers. How it got to Pi-oneers, I don't think I was told that part/remember. lol Sorry. But yes, and sorry, and Pi-oneers for tellnig your story but I think that it is AWESOME!

That's a pretty good story. How come none of the Oregon teams are the Oregon Trail?

I kind of wish we were team 314... it might make more sense...

I'm from Team 1676 - the Pascack PIoneers [[ as Don Rotolo stated earlier on ]]... our rookie year team shirts were a bit misleading because they had 3.14 on the back... but nevertheless, that is who we are.

602 - ?
1023 - Bedford Express
^ Maybe team 602 could be the Moles for Mole Day! :D
Anybody know?

This from Dillon's dad - team founder/mentor/coach/teacher, etc. Yeah, well..... we actually only got inot FIRST three years ago, and only then at the very last moment. first team meeting - pick a name! Later we would learn what all this other robot stuff was about... very naive, didn't do any research about other team names, dind;t even know where to look (didn;t even know Chief Delphi existed, etc.) When a student suggested "juggernauts" because it is an unstoppable force (derived, by the way from the hindu god jagganatha (sp.) who creates all kind of unstoppable energies in people), I corrected said student to point out that the premise of THE unstoppable force means there can only be one, ad thus Juggernaut (not juggernauts) was born. imagine my surprise and semi-embarassment to find that, on our first trip to nationals last year, the "juggernauts" ... so close in name... already existed AND they are team 0001!

No intention to bogart a name folks, but if we had intended such, team 0001 would be a great one to do it from! Unfortunately, but fortunately for our only 5 year old inner city charter school of only 400 students, our team is well supported in school and the entire studetn body has now voted to have JUGGERNAUT be our official school mascot for ALL sports! So... we may become the Firewire if the (IEEE) 1394 thing reonsates, but we'll also always be - with respect and regard for 0001 - the Juggernaut.

Re: Maximizing On Your Name

Some wacky things about "maximizing" our team name & number......things we didn't really intend to do until AFTER our team was "given" the number by FIRST and we somewhat backed-into the team name and slogan:

1) The number "1511". If you do the numerology thing, then "1+5+1+1=8"...and we all know that eight can be a 'lucky 8-ball" number, the number eight looks a bit like a Mobius strip of endless challenges for FIRST and if you turn the number "8" sideways, well, then it's the symbol for infinity.

2) Our motto of "rolling thunder"? Hmm, does thunder really "roll"? Or is it the storm clouds that are visualized to seem to be 'rolling". Can a sound wave really "roll"? And, if our logo is a tank, then does a Bradley or Sherman tank really make the sound of thunder? Whatever works, because our team (only in it's 2nd year) has surely maximized on the name with full red/black camouflage outfits, pit decor, cheers, etc.)

3) This year, for community service, we coined the idea of "151 thunderbolts". Well, does "thunder" really have a "bolt"??? Or is it lightning that has a "bolt"? In either case, we're capitalizing on our team name and number just for fun and a "cause".

4) lastly, we maximized all of this into our slogan...."The Thunder Just Keeps Getting Louder"......meaning that the spirit of FIRST keeps growing with each of us and it become infectious. Stop by our pit in Atlanta and we'll show you what we mean.

REMEMBER: The all-rookie meet & greet will be held again in Atlanta; pass the word to all rookie teams.
