Newton Discussion

Here is some info I have summarized from CD and the FIRST site. W1 means winning alliance captain. W2 and W3 mean winning alliance picks in order. F1,F2, F3 is for finalist. The shooter mentions are from a CD thread on "Pure Shooters" and the D Dumpers is from a CD thread on Defenders and Dumpers. Looks like a great bunch of robots with maybe a shortage of corner scoring bots.

Nice list.

Team 753 is a center-goal shooter that cannot reload during a match, and a superb defensive robot, but it doesn't dump.

Team 492 dumps, dumps in autonomous, and (at Portland) could shoot the center goal from the platform. As always with Titan robots, 492 has an outstanding drive team and plays smart defense.

Re: Newton Discussion

Woah 1272 is a shooter now, I cant believe the kids finaly found a way to get the weight to attach one.... erm...

Rather I think your data collection method might be a little flawed, I am assuming that since the team number 1272 was mentioned in the pure shooter thread that you put us into the shooter catagory, however we can only play defense (only play defense feels like an understatement...) and score in the low goal.

WHOA!........... its gonna be tough guys.
heres some info on Team 612
Shooter and Dumper
Can pick Balls from the ground
Human Player can refill too.

Can be defensive and can be offensive

We were 41st in NASA/VCU and 20th at Chesapeake (we would've been 6th if we only had 'ONE' more point...we lost the turning match with 33-32.....that was kinda sad)

Good luck to all the Teams. Really looking forward to see every single one of you.

Re: Newton Discussion

Here's a Little background on Team 379:
(1st regional)Cleveland-28th/42
(2nd)Detroit-16th/33
(3rd)Philly-8th/46

We started off a little rough as I'm sure everyone did with it being the first regional. As we progressed we were getting auto mode 10 Pt's every time. We were ranked 8th out of 46 teams in Philly moving up to 6th during alliance selections and have been picking or picked during these 3 regionals for alliances. We are a very strong defensive robot when need to be and we also score in the side goals. We can be in low gear to play defense and in high gear to shoot across the field to collect balls or score. We are about 13.5 ft/sec in high gear and 4 ft/sec low gear. We have custom built transmissions with a pneumatic shifter for high and low gear with treads. We have pushed 2 robots at the same time in Philly and can easily get up onto the ramp at the end. We can load by HP but prefer to drive around and pick up balls on the floor. Auto mode we start in the first position and drive straight out to the side goal and dump 10. If Need be we can shoot across the field to stop other robots from scoring. This is just a little bit about our robot, so if anyone has any questions about our robot you can post here or PM me and I will respond to you as soon as possible. And if you are looking for a reliable and powerful robot don't forget to check us out. Team 379, hope to hear from people soon.

This looks like a great strong division. Lets go out there and show them that we are the best, robot performance wise and team spirit. Good luck to everyone in our division as well as every other division. Hope to see everyone having a blast in Atlanta and hope to be hearing from some of you soon. :p

We started slow too. By the end of the New England Regional we had almost everything going well :) . We haven't seen our robot since then :ahh: and I'm starting to forget what it looks like ;) .

In the finals of NE our job was to score 10 points in the corner. Harvest balls after we won autonomous (which we did) and then shoot 3 point goals like crazy. Near the end of the match we got on the ramp with our partners 177 and 1124 (also in Newton).

Can't wait to see the other robots in Newton.

Re: Newton Discussion

Yes Newton will be a little tough, but Ciniqua is our MC so that means we have the best division out there. I put in to be play by play announcer (for those of you at NJ,NYC, or Philly, you've already heard me)...but alas, I didn't get it. But I'll make sure we get the Georgia dome rocking and take the hardware back to Newton for the second straight year.

:yikes: wow ive did my homework on the teams in the newton division and believe me its not a walk in the park. team 223 can shot into the lower goals in autonomous mode( either one if neccessary), we are working on shooting into the center goal ( which is getting better cause of the camera) and we can have the robot pick up balls off the floor.

Re: Newton Discussion

This is going to be a TOUGH division. I know there will be a few surprises come Saturday afternoon. I believe that at least 5 teams that won a regional or were finalists (or both) that will not make it to the elim's. I would expect that the alliance that represents Newton will have 3 GREAT shooters to take to Einstein. Don't be surprised to see a score around 150+ in the elim’s. The finals will be mind-blowing! I hope the scoring system can keep up.

My math has ~at least
8 unstoppable shooters
7 very good shooters
12 good shooters
2 surprises
29 teams for the elim’s

Uh-Oh….

I wouldn't be surprised, with all the great shooters, if defensive powerhouses went before the 'good' shooters. :)

I priced it out and all, i need at least $630. That is around 3-4 months of work to pay back the parents. So i made the hard and gut wrenching decision to not go. I'll be watching all Rochester teams and 229!

I got a nice big ole list with stats and stuff already written down. I count a few for sure first rounders, and many second rounders. Should have more than enough good shooters here to spread around.
And to Tom, i'd expect the shooters that play a good d to go first before dumper bots. Which, in my mind, there are plenty of.

322 and 1272, these teams only shoot or dump into the lower goals. If you need some defense and there are no more good shooters, then 1272 would be a great teammate. 322 just flies around the field. I'm not sure how much they can push, but they easily score around 20 or more balls a match.

I saw both of these team at regionals. 1272 picked us at Boilermaker and both were at West Michigan, where 322 was seeded #1. They just might be competitive enough to take one of the top 8 seeds away from a 3pt shooter.

Hey fellow Newton teams! Can't wait to see you all in a week!

If you get the chance can you answer the following questions:

1. Team name and number
2. Shooter/Dumper
3. How many balls can you approx. hold?
4. Ramp capabilities?
5. Effective autonomous Mode(s)?
6. Speed/Power/Maneuverability
7. Average scoring?
If shooter:
8. Shooter location
9. Camera/Manual
10. Post a picture of the robot if you can!

11. Are you a ground or human loader?

For example:

1. MORT Team 11
2. Shooter
3. 12 balls
4. Depends on ramp conditions
5. Yes, drives forward and shoots 10 balls in the 3-pt goal effectively
6. Average speed and power but not traction
7. Around 15-20 shots scored. Avg pts per match: 26
8. Top
9. Both
10. Posted below

11. We are a ground loader

Thanks so much teams! Good luck in ATLANTA.

1. CyberKnights Team 195
2. Dumper
3. 30+ easily
4. We can climb the ramp relatively easily
5. Yes. a) Drives forward and scores 10 in corner goal.
b) "Dynamic Defense"
6. Good speed and power
7. Depends on if we play more defensively or not. Can score a full load in under 10 sec.

Here is the picture I posted earlier.

Can reload from ground or human player.

Re: Newton Discussion

1. The Robocats Team 379
2. Dumper/defensive
3. 20-25
4. Easily
5. Effectively drives to side goal and dumps 10, If need to zoom across floor to block shooter or other dumper we will.
6. 2 spd. trans. w/ pneumatic shifter, custom built. High spd 13.5 ft/sec, Low 4.5 ft/sec. Very powerful, fast and reliable.
7.we are able to score from 40-50 ourselves. (10 auto + winning auto =20, Driving around picking up 20-25 balls usually 2 trips = 40-45, then on ramp for bonus 5 = 45-50. Our average scores usually 30-40.

Our Robot posted from the other page. good Luck everyone can't wait to see everyone down there

First off, thanks for all the compliments to our bot this year on the forum, thats great.

1. Team name and number - 322
2. Shooter/Dumper - Dumper
3. How many balls can you approx. hold? - 50+
4. Ramp capabilities? 100% with ease
5. Effective autonomous Mode(s)? Dump 10 everytime from any three starting spots, If a shooter needs spot one or two, we have delay that let's the shooter move to go shoot, then we dump. We scored 10 pts in Auto all matchs last regional. Also shooter blocking modes
6. Speed/Power/Maneuverability - Most say it's the fastest and most mobile bot this year. 4 motor, 4 wheel drive allowed us to push bots around and dead bots onto the ramp
7. Average scoring? 10 pts. always in auto, 30+ dumping and 5 pts. for ramp
8. Shooter location - nota
9. Camera/Manual - nota
10. Post a picture of the robot if you can! - see www.fireteam.org

Other notables - #1 seed at Western Regional, 2006 Motorola Quality award, two weeks later 2006 GM industrial design winners.

-basically un-tippable
-spare part for every robot detail
-lowest center of gravity I've seen yet
-8 different auto modes, including defensive ones

Hopefully this helps, email with further questions.....thanks.

Just in case anyone wants to know, Team 379 loads from the floor. We prefer to load from the floor but if there is a chance that there aren't any balls on the floor then we human load. We don't like to human load but like I said there were some matches where we had all the balls in our hopper and none on the floor so we had to human load. omg some of our team just got together and tried to pick 24 teams for picking. As of right now we have 26 teams but it took weeks of scouting and hours today of debating to get to our current list. Picking in Newton is not as easy as people think.

Well... I've been over all of the team tags on Chief Delphi, all of the listed websites on USFIRST, and I've gotten a lot of scouting data and pictures, but alas, there are still quite a few teams left. I currently have photos for all of the other teams, but I'm missing the ones below. They would probibly be grouped with their regional photos. If you could find a picture of a team or two I'd really appreciate it. After I've gotten most/all of the teams robots I'll post a photo-pack here for everyone to use. Thanks for your help guys!

some insight on team 1646 (since they're part of Purdue FIRST programs)
Their Robot
Problem is finding an updated picture. They have made many changes to their robot over the two regionals. They have modified their ball-pickup and added a shooting mechanism, which in all honesty, still needs some work.
On the other hand, they do have a great, reliable, and durable drive train. They are a decent defensive threat, and with some more work, they could become a reliable offensive component of an alliance.

To get my teams pic up on CD Media, i just got the archived matches from the regionals, copied the frame with the robot in it, edited it, and posted it. it would be a good idea for you to look on 108's webcast archive site, or any other site and do as i did, it should work

thanks for the effort.

Team 85 BOB's robot:

Events:
2006 MI - West Michigan Regional
2006 IN - Boilermaker Regional
2006 CMP - The Championship Event
Awards Won:
2006 MI Woodie Flowers Regional Award
2006 MI Regional Finalist
2006 MI J&J Sportsmanship
2006 IN Regional Champion
2006 IN Judge's Award Day 2

1. Team Name: 85 B.O.B.
2. Shooter
3. Maximum Ball Capacity: 20
4. Ramp capability: Gets on ramp every time, can help others
5. Autonomous Modes: Multiple modes, all modes make 8-10 balls in upper goal.
6. Speed/Power/Maneuverability: 6 CIM 6 wheel drive drivetrain, 10 fps, very maneuverable
7. Average scoring: 8-10 balls in auto = 8*3=24 points 10*3=30 points
I have video to support my autonomous claims.
We very rarely lose autonomous mode.
After autonomous, we score an average of 20 points.
This places our individual scoring at 44-50 points. Also note that I am excluding the 10 point bonus for winning auto.
8. Shooter Location: Top of robot (balls exit over 5 foot)
9.Camera: Camera and manual

10.

11. Ground or Human Load: Both, prefer human

I also have a video for our robot,
Team 85 music video

While not yet complete, I think a photo-pack is in order just to give you guys an idea of how close things are to completion. I've got a zip file ready to go... But I'm having trouble with the file-server, it's a little over 12 megabytes, does anyone know of a file-server I could use? Thanks ppl!

As a temporary solution I can e-mail the pack to people requesting it. Just pop off an email to cyberguy34000@gmail.com and I'll try to get back to you within a day or so.

I've poured over many websites and such looking for the remaining photos, and alas, I still can't find them. What I'm looking for now are pictures taken at any of the regionals below, so links to photo-batches, or uploading the ones you took while at that regional would be a huge help.

I'm aiming to finish this by tomarow morning. Thanks for all your help people!

In this division, any of the top 5 seeds are incredibly powerful, and have a very real shot at winning.

QF:
1 def 8
2 def 7
3 def 6 (UPSET ALERT , 6 *might* just be able to win this, but I think 3 will pull it out in the end)
