Yeah!
1511 is ready to really put on a strong showing.....
we have a good offense, can shoot 3 pointers,
and a great defense, our bot is fast, and strong,
and we have the greatest drive team I know of..... :)

I am a mentor, so I guess I am somewhat biased.... ;)
but check out Rolling Thunder....
we really know who to play this game....

AIM HIGH!

Should this be 1629? We're in Curie, but 1626 is in Archie.

Just over two weeks...I can't wait!!

I can't wait

We're scrapping our shooter due to lack of software integration time.

We are going to be a defensive bot which we know we can do.

It does look to be a pretty good division.
There will be 21 Regional champion banners in the pits for this division.
There are also 8 number 1 seeds from the regionals.
This should be fun.

There are a lot of teams in this division whom 1251 has never seen before so should be fun with all the Canadian and New York teams we haven't met. Looking forward to meeting everyone as well as competing good luck to all.

Hopefully we will get to meet all the great teams in this division and all throughout champs. Hopefully Curie will be able to take the championships this year.

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

For any one who is interested, my spread sheet tells me that we have
6 teams from Canada, 2 teams from Israel
7 Regional Chairman's Awards,
22 Regional Championships (395 has 2, 1114 has 3)
11 Regional Finalists (no repeats)
2 National Chairmans Awards
11 Previous Division Wins (or national finalists before there were divisions) who did not win the championship (121 has 2, 175 has 3)
6 National Championships (no repeats)

Just some data I thought someone might be interested. If anyone wants to know who exactly has won regionals or whatever, just let me know.

Now this is one crazy division! Looking forward to seeing all these great teams in action and having a great time. This is my first year in Curie, as well as my first year on 358, and our first year as a team in Curie so we're kind of looking to get a feel for it. Anybody have any useful info they want to share? Some of our robot stats are

  • 2 Speed AM Shifter
  • Pannable turret
  • Floor collector mechanism
  • We get on the ramp very often
  • 30 Different autonomous modes (10 per field position)
  • On the fly selection of autonomous and starting position
  • Reliable camera based center goal scoring in autonomous
  • Camera powered driver HUD feedback
  • Traction wheels, hard to push
  • Regional Champion and Finalist!
I (or my team mates) can also field any more specific questions you guys have, and we'd like to know a lot about your robots too.

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eastern Robotic Vikings-Team 204

What makes our robot awesome, and the perfect teammate for you?

- 2 driver motors on custom gear boxes ( 2 small CIMs).
- 2 large CIMs for shooter.
- Modular electronics boxes means no electronic failures and easy maintenance.
- Shoots for 3 point goal and human fed. Accurate shooter.
- Can make up the ramp every time and can also block opponents shooting from the ramp.
- Prefers to be defense (highly defensive),"Best Defensive Robot" by many Philly Teams

Our Strategy: We are the perfect compliment to any team. Having a solid shooter and a strong defense, we are the well rounded robot to handle any situation. Our custom designed and made gear boxes fused the perfect ration for matching speed and power that many teams have not found. This enables speed, defense, and getting up on the ramp while only running on 2 wheels. Our shooter puts no spin on the balls, meaning consistent goals. Autonomous is designed for defense, blocking the opposing team from shooting or delivering balls in the corner goal. We may also try shooting in AUTO, but we still working on it.

Facts from our competitions so far:
- Have never tipped over.
- High score 74.
- No penalties so far!

If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me through private message or at Nomads2009@aol.com.

Thanks,

I could share the spreadsheet, if I had any idea how! :D If anyone is interested in telling me how to do this, I absolutely will. It took a while to do this, so more people might as well benefit from it.

Also, on my earlier information, that would actually be 10 division wins/national finalists because 121 only won 1. (It was a division finalist vs. national finalist thing)

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Team 1002
Robot Name: C-4
We have 4WD using 4 cim motors.
We move at around 9 f/s and can play pretty good defense.
We can herd and dump pretty well.
We can shoot from a decent distance and we got auto panning working at the very end of Peachtree.
We have a new and improved loader so we should be pretty good at shooting but we will just have to wait and see. If we had to camp on the ramp, I think we could still shoot them in, we aren't 100% sure yet thoguh.
I hope to met everyone there, this ought to be fun.

Thanks for the info ScoutingNerd!!! Was this a completely manual process to create, as that is quite some work?

If you're interested, a few more things I did not see in your sheet:
293 and 358 were finalists at Philly 2005
358 was regional champ and chairmans at SBPLI 2005, and regional champ at NYC 2002.

Again, thanks for the info.

You are welcome, yes I did it manually. It's taking quite a while to type in who was at each regional (although I'm sure I'm doing it the stupid way.

The reason the stuff from past regionals isn't on there is because I only put this year's regionals and any year's championships/nationals. It would have taken too long (and too much space) for me to put in earlier regionals. Some of the older teams have quite a few. (175 has been Regional Champions 6 times and Regional Finalists 4 times) I just couldn't fit it.

If anyone sees an error in their information (especially team names, most of those are from FIRST Wiki) please let me know so I can change it. :)

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to reply to myself too many times, but again, I did the spreadsheet so I might as well share it. This one is grouped by regional and lists each team with their seed in parenthesis. There may be a better way to organize it, but I don't know. This should also help if you want to know what the abbreviations are for regionals, it has all of them on there.

So we need to wake up the curie discussion here. The other divisions are already beating us. :D Tell us about your robot or your team, post a picture, tell us what you think are the top robots in this division.

Me, I can't give great stats on our robot I will describe it though. What I can give you is the scouting info (which I have), any help on scouting that you might need. and this link to a picture of our robot. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/23320

The robot has a roller system which collects balls into two magazines. One feeds to the shooter and can hold around 8 balls. One simply feeds back to the lower goals (we reverse the rollers to dump) and can hold, I think, 5 balls. We can score in the lower goal with either magazine. We have a shooting autonomous mode from the position close to our own goal, and from the middle spot (the code for the final spot is written but not tested). We can dump in the near lower goal from the first spot (and I think possibly from the second) and our programmer/driver says he's planning on writing the code for the third spot. We have 6 wheel drive and can easily get up the ramp. (We got up the ramp in every match of the finals in Atlanta)

Come visit me in the stands or I may see you pit scouting on Thursday.

610 is PUMPED to be in Curie this year, we have had an amazing year so far and want to continue the success at the Champs. We were finalists in Waterloo with 188 and 771. And at GTR we performed very well on Friday only loosing one game, then with the target on our back on Saturday we ended up 7-3. Got picked 5th by 703 and made it to the Quarter Finals (Round 2 at GTR, 12 alliances).

Robot specs:
  • AM 2-speed Shifter.
  • 6-wheel traction drive.
  • 30-40 ball capacity.
  • efficient floor and human loader.
  • Top and lower goal shooter.
  • Get on the ramp easily
  • Multiple shooting, dumping, and defense autonomous modes.

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it will happen but I hope the 1305, 180, 358 alliance pulls off the upset.

It's going to a third match!

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

QF:
1 def 8
2 def 7
6 def 3
4 def 5, but it takes 3 (or more) matches, should be really exciting

SF:
1 def 4
2 def 6

Finals:
1 def 2

hmmm, mine look oddly like Tim's....

Looks like 175's streak of Einstein appearances has ended, 3 years in a row is still amazing

That's absolutely stunning. Congratulations to 503, 451 and 1139 on pulling that incredible win out of the bag (although their win in the semis was rather impressive too) with their amazing driving and strategy.

Congrats to 503 & 451 and especially to 1139, Chamblee High, who I believe is the first Georgia team ever to win a divisional field championship at the Championship event.

Yeah, that match was insane, I was doing the score keeping on the red center goal on Curie all weekend. That match, I thought my thumb was going to break from clicking the counter so many times. I don't remember exactly, but I want to say the final number of balls that went into the goal was 45.

There was also a match on Curie that had 19 balls in the center during auton :ahh:

i was expecting the following...

I was acutally expecting the alliance of 222, 79, and 469 to go all the way but it was not to be and was very surprised when they lost in the semis...

It is, isn't it? 175 has had a very sucessful 11 years. Hopefully we will be able to continue that. We have been very lucky, I keep reminding my team of that. 3 straight years on Einstein is amazing. I think many of us had the feeling that it wasn't going to happen again. (The odds were against us) But I can't say I didn't have a wonderful time. Last year was awesome, this year was great for a whole different set of reasons.

I predicted on Friday (My team hates it when I do this) that we would end up being the first or second pick of one of the alliances 5-8. And we were. A huge thanks to 108 (two years in a row at Championships, although last year ended better, thanks for sitting with us) and 234 (you guys had a great robot, sorry that we couldn't find you to have you sit with us too, we looked but couldn't find you in the stands)

And of course, UTC got the founders award this year. (And my team did go crazy for that one)

Congratulations to the winning alliance, 503, 451, and 1139.

Now that was painful! Congratulations to 469, 79, and 222. You guys were a great alliance! So many of the alliances on Curie field were great. As 503, 451, and 1139 proved, Curie was any alliance's game!

well, our alliance had one of the biggest upsets in history. early into one of the quarter final matches, our battery became disconnected after hitting the ramp, and we lost with one of the biggest margins in the aim high competition, it was sad, but i am still proud of getting as far as we did. look out for the c@ts next year... rawr!

Upset as in you were upset inferring to your mood, or upset as in you were supposed to win, and didn't? I.e. an 8th seeded team beating a 1st seeded team which would be an upset.

ahirsch2589 01-05-2006 19:56

Re: CURIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wasnt upset we lost, on the contrary i think it was expected. i was upset on the fact our battery came unplugged, and we could have done a little something to guard against getting beat by that huge margin.

I guess we can just say "we were part of the highest scoring match in the world". We can always forget to mention what side of the score we were on.... ;)

Great matches all. Thanks to 108 for picking us and to 175 for being a great partner. It was a fun weekend -

He did a 85% on the job. He did fine but his voice was out-of-whack and could not hear or understand what he was saying half the time. He did a fantastic job at the regionals. However ,it was still a good job.

Learn a lot from him! Can't wait to MC Monty and possibly PARC

 You shouldn't be upset because it was your responsibility to make sure that battery was well connected.

We always zip tie our batteries before every match and specially when we are doing eliminations. ;)

Our MC had a lot of energy to keep everyone awake in the mornings, and he did make people notice that game going on.

I'll remember to bring some windex next year in case he drools on the window again- that was definitely the most original MCing act I saw all year!

i wasn't in the pits during that match, i feel pretty badly for my team mate who had the task of putting the battery in, she took it pretty hard after she realized what happened

On behalf of all the mentors and members of Team 204, we would like to thank everyone to who we competed against and our alliance partners. We ended up with a 3-4 record (not bad for a student-engineered robot).

Some of teams that stand out from the crowd

175- Helped us with a lot of cutting and tool borrowing
395- One of our favorite teams in the competition and personally my favorite team in F.I.R.S.T
222- Impressive all the way through
358
1511
469- One Word: Autonomous
1002
293

1114

On behalf of team 469, I'd like to thank our alliance partners - Captain Krunch #79 and Tigertrons #222. It was an excellent time playing together, and it let us set the all-time high score - 171. Thank you so much! (We need a reunion at IRI to raise the high score higher!)

I'd also like to congratulate 503, 451, and 1139- you were an amazing alliance as well, with great plays and powerful defense. Great Job!

Actually, it was me who plugged in the battery.... I could have sworn I plugged in properly but, as soon as we hit that ramp, and the match restarted, I got so pissed off at myself....
and then when the match was over, we went over to see it, and I got so mad I punched the floor.....but then everyone assured me that it wasn't my fault.....
I was really upset.....still am but not as bad I had been that day....
But, I still had an awesome time at Nationals....it was my first time so, hey, it was alright.....and we were the head of our alliance so, I am extremely excited about that. :D Tis alright.....such is life, right?

Everyone has had that sort of problem at one time or another. Team 175 had a great time sitting with team 108 (glad you could join us) and a great time playing with you again this year. We had three very solid machines on our alliance. The opposing alliance was just an offensive terror (in a good way). Thank you for selecting us this year.
