2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
A match that was a nail-biter to the end !
A match that was completely dominating by the red/blue alliance! A match that was all about shooting! A match where two robots went up against three and the two robot prevail and won. A match where you feel it was the best match that your team did! If any of the above matches fits any categories above, tell us about. Also, if you have a video of the match, provide us a link for viewing. Thanks |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Probably the most exciting match for us would probably have to be our final match against the 1458, 115, and 368 alliance. Our robot (1726) had lost one of it's treads within seconds of the 2nd period. Basically, we were a bot down with nothing else to do. Luckily, though, we won autonomous, but the other team was playing well too. The match wasn't going well, but our amazing alliance partner, 852, got right behind us and pushed us onto the ramp. At the end of the match, we had all 3 bots on the platform, and we pulled through with a victory.
Here's the video of the match: Final Semi-final match Edit: Had the wrong alliance. Fixed now. |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Oooh! Oooh! Oooh!
I got one! Quarterfinal 1.1 at Wisconsin... The computer malfunctioning had the match restarted 3 times! That definitely put me on the edge of my seat. Also, the finals at Wisconsin (Wildstang vs. Martian Combo) were great as well. [Edit] I just remembered what may have been my favorite match at Detroit. It was the third qualifying match, and as it so happened, Team Cosmos #123 ended up without any partners, and was up against 3. They played amazingly well, and just dodged any defense on them and scored some, and them played defense on the other three- It was like watching smash-crash ping-pong as 123 hit and bounced from one robot to another. In the end, they won that match on their own, 20-11. _Alex |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
i say the best match that i have seen this year was the first match of the finals at GTR. 1680,1305,1620 v. 1114,1503,865. 1680 and 1305 just lit up the boards scoring like mad, they beat the power of 1114 and 1503. the next match they broke a drive sprocket and i don't know if they could fix it or not but they couldn't move in the rubber match. but that first one was one heck of a match.
Quote:
another is the 1114,1503,865 alliance v. 229,217,4. all three matched were awesome. i thought division by chicken was going to beat them up after that first match. they just would not stop scoring, except when they were on defence. 1114 and 1503 were scoring like mad too(i think haha) it was awesome. but the last two matches, 1114 and 1503 just smashed them, 865 played some really good defence those two rounds also....yay for 865 (a team i picked in the GTR FF just because they have a 65 in it and they go on to win it all, who would have thunk it) the best on we were in was either this one at GLR or at GTR. the one at GLR was against....you guessed it...1114 and 1503. the first match we got smoked...bad. but the second, we went out there and lit it up in auto mode...winning it. we then proceeded to just score the 3pt ball like crazy...we still lost but we learned that we can hang with the big timers. the other was at GTR. we go out, win auto mode and just continue to score....scoring 19 balls. thats a lot of poof balls flying through the air. it was awesome. |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
The finals at SoCal (599, 330 and 995 vs. 968, 1138 and 4) were pretty exciting. In the first match everyone swore it was a blow out after 330 fell over, and that the blue alliance was going to win. Then after the match it took the refs, field crew, scoring officials and even Dave Lavery 20 minutes to determine the final score... a 45-45 tie

OH my word, chesepeake Q 4-2. It was 341(my team) 484,836 vs. 103,293 1389. We lost the first match. And then we (341) broke before the second match and we didnt tell in enough time to get a replacement bot so we sent in just 484 and 836 to what seemed like an iminant defeat, BUt oh my goodness gracious those two teams fought, hard. and we won 44-42, thanks to a few penalties. THat matc had me falling out of my seat and when we won that was the most amazing things ever, we unforunaty lost the next match but hey, we won a match wit 2 bots. only one was a shooter

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
At WMR QF Match 3.2
Team 85 (B.O.B.) is a scoring juggernaut, Team 910 (Foley Freze) A strong robot and Team 27 (R.U.S.H.) isn't half bad (this was the number two aliance) were up against the Number 7 aliance of teams 494 (The Martians), Team 302 (Lake Orion Dragons) and Team 1272 (Tyranikal Makanikal). The number two aliance had already won the first game. The number 7 aliance sent team 1272 to play defense and they sure did. They stopped the number 2 aliance in autonomous, something only the number 4 aliance did in the finals. But that wasn't what made it amazing. Team 1272 put on a defensive showcase that would have made The MAVERICK'S proud. Not only did they stop all three robots, they were able to push team 85 onto the plexiglass side of the ramp and just left them there suspended above the ground  . I don't know how they did it but that lead to the number 7 aliance taking the game. The number 2 aliance would win the match however. WI Qualifying MAtch 5 This was the overall highest scoring match I have seen this year. Team 111 (Wildstang), Team 706, and Team 70 (More Martians) against Team 1625 (Winnovation), Team 494 and team 857 (Superior Roboworks). This was a match like no other. Both aliances played it like it was a finals match, and this was the 5th match on Friday. 4 of these teams would be in the top 2 aliances. Neither Aliance would stop scoring , except for defense. Balls were flying all over the field. Autonomous mode alone had a score higher than some matches. I hope someone has a video of this match because it was an excellent match, especially for a qualifying match. |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Well...I have a few...
At the Trenton Regional, we started one of the final matches 3 times! Then at the Chesapeake regional, in the semi finals it was us(103), 293, and 1389, and so we started this match and 293 put all of their balls but one through the center goal, and we(103) put all but two balls through the center goal, and 1389 had some balls in too, and so we had like 52+ points in autonomous, and then the worst thing happened...(well not the worst thing) we had to restart the match, we were so upset!!! |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
The most memorable match for me, and I'd assume, all of 675 was our second match in the elimination rounds at SVR. We were the 8th seeded alliance, against 254, 581 and 766. After the first round, we lost one of our partners(1120) to a broken custom gearbox if I recall correctly. In the second match, 670 joined us, and played a major role in winning that match. 670 played incredible defense against the poofs, allowing us and 256 to score a lot of points on the low goal. We ended up getting the win. The crowd reaction was intense. That match will be remembered for years to come at Tech High.
It seemed that everyone was loving the underdogs that match. |

Arizona Finals
4th seed vs 1st seed 1st Match: Great aton. for the 1st seed, but 4th seed was catching up. Came down to one 4th seed robot being tipped over and all 3 1st seed robots get on the ramp. 2nd Match: Two bots from the opposing team (1st seed) fall over last second and all three robots from our side make it on top the ramp to make it a tie game. Tie Match: 1st seed and 4th seed played a well-fought match with the 1st seed winning. Almost all the matches went into tiebreakers so the finals in Arizona rocked. |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
how about that match with 254 against xbot and two other teams (sorry, my memory is a little foggy) loooked like 254 wouldn;t be able to score until 488 got pushed off the ramp with about 15 seconds left and then the poofs ran away with the match...

It was a weird coincidence that all four of us (70,111,494, and 1625) were in the same match that early on friday. The score was 109 for 111 ,70, and 706, and 73 for 494, 1625, and 857. It was pretty insane, but that match was up for grabs and they just had better defense. |

i must say that the GTR semi finals match 1-1 is my favorite.
probably the fastest i've ever lost my voice cheering/yelling. : ] most exciting for me would have to be the first SoCal finals match with us (team 4)/RAWC/1138 against BeachBots/599/995, rawc fell over and the score wasnt announced til a good 15 minutes later, it felt like 5 hours because we were all so anxious. |

For me,
the most exciting match for 1511 was our last match in Boston. It was the deciding match for us in the finals. We were up against the only other NY state team at the Boston Regional. Team 578 ... and both sides went all out to win. At the buzzer the score was tied, and somehow 578 managed to get up onto the platform..... they had three on the platform, and we had two.... so we were eliminated.... but it was the best match ever! our last match... http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2...n/ma_qf3m3.wmv The next match 578 was in we went over to their section in the stands and started cheering with them.... it was a LOT of fun... --Mike |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
I'm going to have to go with SF1-1, SF1-2 and SF1-3 at UTC
The dream team of 126 and 20 with 571 against the lower ranked 177, 176 and 1124 all UTC alliance. The matches are non stop action from start to finish. here the video http://www.aceshigh176.com/UTC2006/ Oh and if we can pick from years gone by I'd have to say the most exciting matches of all time would have to be on Newton in 2004. Team 176 drove their way to the top even as the under dogs with every match going to 3 games. Wish I had more video but here are two rounds from the semi-finals. And yeah that's me driving the base as a Freshmen. http://www.aceshigh176.com/download.php?list.9 |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Best of this year, for us? That would probably have to be the second match of the finals. (1629/175/1184 vs. 181/888/1218) We had waited through two 6 minute time outs, and all the robots were finally working. The reason the match was so great was because of our three teams getting up on the ramp. 888 had fallen over in front of the ramp, one of the teams on our alliance (1629 I think) got up one side, then the other team (1184 I think, although it may have been the other way around) the drove over on the ramp so we could get up that side too. It was great, because it was 1st seed vs. 2nd seed and 2nd seed had won the first of the two matches, so this tied everything up. Everyone was so nervous and all the time had made the anticipation worse.
Best ever? There was one match in 2004, forgive me I don't know which one, where WPI (190) had hung there robot and they were trying to execute the maneuver where they switched the x2 ball from the opposing goal to there goal. It was the end of the match and we (175) grabbed the ball and held it on. Any one who didn't get to see WPI hang in auton in 2004 should see it. I don't have videos (if anyone knows where there are videos of Chesapeake finals, let me know!) :) |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Anyone who went to Pittsburgh remember Q5, the match they changed the score to later? I doubt anyone will, except the 4 teams who played...it was a 2-on-2, us (1629) and 1727 vs. 1370 and 365. The other two teams were having mechanical problems, and unfortunately their robots didn't make it to the field. Us and 1727 were honestly terrified before that match; both the other teams were good shooters AND solid pushers, and neither of us could really push well. We came up with a strategy, and played it out...we played "sneaky" defense, blocking and nudging instead of pushing...and when ramp time came, we held MOE back together until we thought they didn't have time to make it to the ramp, then got on our own together. We looked at the RTS score, added the 10 ramp points, and knew we'd won...but the final score didn't add our ramp points, and said we'd lost. We sent our drivers to talk to the referees, and they reviewed it and corrected the score a few matches later.
That match is special in my mind because we had to fight SO HARD to win, and because we couldn't give up when we knew the score was wrong. We thought we had no shot against those two teams. The other best one I can remember also came at Pittsburgh. The 3rd match of our semi finals, we thought we'd lost and it was all over. BUT, the scoring system had been off...IT WAS A TIE. To be honest, that was nearly as good a feeling as winning at Chesapeake. (Almost) |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Yes I think there were to matches from the Palmetto Regional down in South Carolina.
First would have to be QF 4-2 and Da' Bears just are defending with 1251 and as soon as they come on offense, they shoot across the whole field like they hit the nitrous button and scoring in the top goal. Then SF 2-2 where scoring was great and 12651 and 247 just rock 343 with a tag team assault. http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2...vies/palmetto/ |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
These matches have been brought up in this thread already, but I thought giving the perspective of someone down on the floor during the matches would be interesting.
1816, 111, and 1625 vs. 70, 494, and 1781 in the Finals at Wisconsin. The first game was incredibly exciting. The scoring system must have malfunctioned a little bit because for the whole match we thought we were down. Every time I looked up at the scoreboard I couldn't believe that we were losing, because the match looked pretty even. The moment when the final score showed up and 1816, 1625 and 111 had won was one of the highlights of the WI regional (for me at least :) ). The second finals match was great, too, but how could it not be with such great shooters on both sides? Moments to remember in our rookie season. |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
My most memorable match of 2006 was when 45 played 1503 in Qual Match 93. They got 3 in, in automode, and got stuck in the corner the rest of the match. It was however the most, stressful?, match for me, due to going back and fourth and trying to read where they would go next. In the end, with lots of luck, we were able to keep them contained in the corner.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
There was one match at GLR where we (226) were two robots against three and then our alliance partner fell over. Our alliance of one robot against three was an awesome match and we won! If anyone remembers which match (it might be Q59 or Q79), I might be able to find a video of it. Thanks. :)

It was our favorite too! (even though we lost :)). If you watch the clock 254 was stopped just in the nick of time twice. Once by the 956 screen and 1839's last minute hit in 254's offensive period, and by us 488 nudging them out of the way when they were lined up for the last period). That with the 4 robots being disabled and the last minute turn of the match was pretty intense. |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Match 50 of the peachtree regional
My team (1261) was blocked on the opposing teams ramps with about 5 seconds left in the match using our swerve drive we juked the other team, launched off their ramp, went around a robot or two as well as several balls (all of this at about 15-18 ft/s) and launched up our ramp ramming the wall at about 12 ft/s (i'm really surprised the glass didn't break) just as the clock hit zero. although this was a low scoring match (25-21), we won because we were able to get up on our ramp here are a few quotes from that match: That 1261 end-to-end dash was the most impressive move I saw this weekend. With mere seconds remaining, 1261 was being pinned on top of the opposing alliance's ramp, got away and made an unbelievable mad dash across the field, somehow not tipping over on the way up his ramp. Anyone remember what match number that was? 1002 Circuit Runners That match was probably one of the most amazing displays of agile mobility I have seen in a FIRST competition. We were all convinced that 1261 had been hiding their talents up to that point, and finally decided to really show their capabilities. And when they did, was it ever impressive! Dave Lavery 1261, what an impressive swerve drive, going from one ramp to the other in a few seconds while dodging a few robots and balls in your way....it was just impressive. Team 1369 Sorry, they didn't tape that match and no one, not even NASA TV or any of the FIRST people can get a tape |

Einstein Finals Match 2, followed by Newton Finals match 2
If the Einstein finals match had last even a fraction of a second longer, 195 would have made it onto the ramp, and it would have been 99-98 in favor of the Newton alliance. 217 nailing all 10 autonomous shots (yet again) was the key, but the Raider RAWCs gave one of the most exciting comebacks I have ever seen. When 217 got into position on the ramp in the 3rd/4th period I thought it would be over, but the last second heroics on 25 dashing to score 3 or 4 more balls, and 968 managing to empty the rest of it's hopper kept it very close. http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2...ip/cmp_f-2.wmv newton match 2 |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Didn't see the Einstein matches, but the best match I saw this weekend, was QF1-2 on Curie with 70/1114/48 and 1305/180/358, that was a nail biter to the last second. In the last part of the match, SPAM (180) lost one of their treads on their drivetrain, yet still managed to win the match .. very impressive.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
not to be bias, but our three matches in newton quarter finals were pretty intense. It was 229, 85, and us (11) (fifth alliance) against 254, 71, and a third team which i currently do not recall the number from (fourth alliance). We started off losing the first match, flipping our robot and destroying our main scoop/pressure board on our harvester. We called a time out, and as seven students calmly sat around the damage robot, working to quickly solve the problem as the adults panicked in the stands, everyone though we were out of the running for sure. Near the end of our time out, we pulled a salvaged robot onto the field and loaded 10 balls into the magazine. We started off with a flawless autonomous mode, gaining a massive lead. With full function restored through some not-so-trustworthy repair methods, our robot was harvesting right away. Cheesypoofs scored alot, but in the end, we came through with an amazing victory, although flipping our robot at the end of the match again, shattering the guard for our shooter. The tie breaker match was intense, our robot remaining in one piece, while one of the opponents separated into two. In the end, we wound up loosing the math 48 to 45, a close match that could have been tied with one shot, or won with one shot and a human player. It was a disappointment to be out of the running so soon, but we put up an amazing fight and came through very close in the end. I'll try to find a video soon.

I really enjoyed the newton semi-finals 2 matches. The first one was amazing, we lost in autonomous mode and ended up winning. semifinal 2-2 was a tough match, we won auto and it was a close loss at 108-115. the third one wasnt too special but it was still a great match. I also liked Semi-Final 2-2 on Einstien. 25,968, and 195 were a down a match, they were behind untill the very last second when both 25 and 968 show up and pound the goal with balls. Amazing to watch.

Newton sf 2-2 was a really close match. I also liked Einstien semis with 25. That was some of the best plays i've ever seen 25 do. They played a little defense, and then unloaded into the goals. They showed they they deserved to be there. Too bad they didn't win it all!!

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
At Monty Madness I got flipped over onto the ramp. I told (well, yelled) the driver of 1660 to give us a nudge and see if we could flip back over. The driver executed the move perfectly and saved us from certain annihilation. Once again, the mystifying CG of our bot generated some "oooo's" in the stands. However, we got flipped over again in the late seconds of the match and lost by a mere 5 pts. We really thought we were going to win that one.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
QF2-1 at the midwest regional. towards the end, 1806 and us were on our backs, and 107 held off all three of the opposing teams, and won it for us

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
I also like the one when i helped a team get back up when they fell. Monty madness was full of Good plays. I remember anther match when we picked up balls and kept feeding them to a shooter. I cant remember the team though.
Team 1660 best match ever was when we lost our first match against team 25 at monty madness. We had two teams that wasnt able to score. So my team said lets just go out and give it our all. During the match we scored 36 points(we were a dumper) That was a good match. I think it was our way of showing them that we can help the little guys. lol. Through defeat I learned that we were winners becouse we worked together our best. We even compleated the strategy. This was a pic taken right before the match ![]() |
Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
My favorite match this year would have to be our qualifying match at GLR against 1114.
We were both undefeated going into the match and 1114 was just running on all cylinders (although that phrase doesn't really apply very well to robots...maybe running on all motor brushes??) and was really a threat. We loaded up by our human and proceeded by 1114 to our goal, where we were pushed into the corner by 1114. It was right near the end of the match and they backed off and got on the ramp leaving us open for a second... We moved in and after a quick adjustment, proceeded to fill the goal above their head... It was a great feeling because they are such an awesome team with an incredible robot... Although, they got their revenge in the finals... I don't have a video, but I have a bunch of pictures that were taken... |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
My favorite match this year was at the Detroit Regional when our partners were 469, and 217 along with us 47 and we score 113 points the highest for that regional and it was a very exciting match all the way to the end, especially when we raced across the field with 7 seconds laeft and got on to the ramp as the buzzer went off for the 10 pt bonus we only had 2 robots on at the end, the score would have been higher if all of us got on but it was the best match for me this year. :)

The newton semifinals had the only match where both alliances scored over 100 pts (sf 2-2 108-115). The 987/1503/1718(?) alliance won the first match, but the 25/968/195 alliance came back in one of the best matches of the year. The 3rd match was hard fought: 25 pinned 987 up on the ramp, and then defense was played until the last period, in which the first balls outside of the autonomous period were scored. Truly an amazing match. Also, there were many great plays in the final matches of the Newton division. In f-2, after losing autonomous, the 25/968/195 alliance was able to come back with a final score of 108-49. While 122 was trying to defend 968 from scoring up on the ramp, they both ended up flipping over, however, 25 was able to upright 968, which allowed them to continue to score. Also, 968 and 195 executed the "A-Bomb" during this match. Somehow 176 fell over , and as 111 was scoring, 25 was able to manuever areound both teams and get onto the ramp with 968 in the last two seconds. I should probably go and download the Archimedes final matches too. EDIT: Just finished watching the Archimedes finals, that first match was pretty close. |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
IRI Semi-Final 1 all of the matches were all insane. I think they crushed us the first match where the beast didnt make it on the ramp but then we came back in match 2 and won by 4 with a score of 137-133 thanks to a penalty on their side otherwise we would have lost there. Match 3 was just crazy but when I saw the beast get up on the ramp I new we had it. I'm not completely sure but I think SM-1 match 2 was the highest combined scoring round this year and yes that is my favorite match this year.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
I vote for the entire finals at IRI as the most exciting matches I have seen al year. Both sets of semi-finals and then the final matches! WOW.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Don't know exactly when it was. But it was at Western Michigan. Team 70 (More Martians) driver had high speed ramming against 111 (Wildstang) and tipped their bot over as it was coming off the ramp.
At IRI, 111 kindly repayed the favor and had 70 pinned in the corner for almost the entire match. 111 and their alliance ended up winning but it was fun to watch the two bots struggle. |

Do you ever think what Dean and Woodie say when they hear the news that some teams have gotten 133-137 score on a game that they spent so long creating. |

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?
Newton semi final 2-1, 195 fell over and in the last few seconds, we tip them back up and also newton final match 2, when we tip over and team 25 pulled some serious wheelie action to tip us back, now those were awesome matches. and who can forget the first round of the LA regional, a tie, it took them the Hokey Pokey, Cotton-Eye Joe, the Cha-Cha Slide, and i believe they also did the YMCA and the Electric Silde as well before the scores were announced. A tie, 44-44, now that cought everyone off guard.
