Welcome to the team Li!

Lucky for you we just stopped our mandatory 4 meetings per week schedule. :D

Just remember to RSVP if you plan to attend the team picnic on May 21st. ;)

I was awarded an ASME FIRST-Clarke scholarship at the Championships. I will be attending Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA this fall. Congrats to all scholarship winners!

Uh-oh. Now WPI has informed me that I did receive the Allaire full tuition scholarship, but it's long past the housing reservation deadline and I'd already made up my mind to attend UC Davis.
What to do now? I've got until Monday morning to tell WPI whether I'll be attending the school or not. If not, then the scholarship will be passed onto the next person in line. I suppose it should be relatively easy to tell UC Davis that I've changed my mind, but I've already finished up quite a bit of paperwork for the school already...and I'd have to rush through the stuff for WPI.

EDIT: The Monday morning deadline may be extended. My parents called WPI to ask for more time.

What do you personally want? Here are some things to consider -

1. How much have you already paid for UC Davis?
2. Does UC Davis have any fine print about this kind of situation?
3. Which school is truly a better match for you?
4. How much would you end up paying in the long run for both? Compare.
5. What do your parents think?

Do it!! Don't regret any decision you make and honestly, do what your heart tells you to do.

I guess the way I would look at it is: don't leave yourself with the ability to look back and think "What if I did?" Now I don't know if that 'did' means "go to WPI" or "go to UC Davis", that is up to you to decide. Don't leave yourself in a situation where a few years down the road, you're going to look back and wish you had made the other choice. Just do what you feel is right.

Furthermore, I'd bet a few donuts that if they're giving you a full tuition scholarship, someone can help work out housing and other late paperwork issue for you at WPI. I'm assuming WPI has the better financial package since you'll be nailed with out-of-state tuition at Davis, which the scholarship just about covers.

I'd go through Eugenia's list of things to ask yourself. Some more considerations: Have you been to both campuses? How did you like them? What attracted you to apply to WPI and for the Allaire scholarship in the first place? Do those things still sound good? Are you (and your family) prepared to be on different coasts now?

Think it out, discuss with some people who know you well, and pick. If it's Davis, tell WPI you decline. If it's WPI, try to get someone on the phone or through email that can tell you what exactly you need to do and when you need to do it by to make a smooth entrance, especially paperwork that is now considered "late." Once that has been satisfactorily cleared up, *then* contact Davis to withdraw. I'm assuming since this is early May that you've submitted your Intent to Register with ~$100 a few weeks ago and perhaps put down some cash to apply for housing at Davis? Those fees won't be coming back, though they are small compared to the long-term costs at either institutions. And if you do prefer WPI, a little extra hassle now is worth it. You probably will at some point wonder "what if..", which is all right, but don't get too hung up on it. You're going to make the best decision you can now, and you'll will succeed at either school. Good luck!

Colleges always say you can't pull out of an intent to register unless something completely drastic happens, like financially. In this case for you, something drastic did happen for you financially (good thing is that its for the better), and right now you have a tough decision to make. From a lot of people I talk to, they say the "gut feeling" is what really had drawn them to a college.
