Not unless you can possibly afford tickets to Isreral. David55 has Wildstang so it could be his. We'll have to see when we score the league.

I spoke to this really nice guy for like 10-15 minutes before the finals. I talked to him about his judging experience, Israel and others. Then, he gave me a short lesson on his Segway and let me ride around a little. All I can remember is that his name tag said "Steve Wozniak". Thanks to Greg needel for telling me who he is a few days later.

Ed - I'll in NY and Pennsylvania all summer, so a flight to Israel won't be necessary ;)

( About 10 seconds before they announced the winner I let out a loud "one eleven" (didn't want to scream it too loud because I was right on the field next to all the important people). Once John Abele announced it, I was so amazed that i was able to predict the winner. )

It's a personal favorite story of mine now Shaver, I tell it to lots of people! :yikes:

I meet Dean and Woodie a few years back, but I'm more honored to meet all the hard working mentors and students out there I read about on CD!

If it's in 8 days (that's what it says on the countdown) then no.

By summer I mean July - August...

I signed his shirt (he carried around a random pack of sharpies on his belt...haha) and then when i went back to the pit jen and i were like "we met woodie flowers! hes awesome! ahhhhhh!"

I <3 FIRST

I'm not sure if we handed them out at Nationals, but our "Dean is my homeboy" pin was pretty popular at the Philly Regionals! A lot of us were hoping that he would show up so that we could get them autographed, but he didn't, so maybe next time! :D

Re: Dean Kamen = a rock star

Woodie spoke with several members of our team on Friday. One member in particular was especially excited about that. Saturday morning I was looking for an FLL official on Einstein and Woodie happened to be there. His "minder" (*) was Susan Lawrence, and I was talking with her for a moment while Woodie finished his conversation with whoever he was talking to, and then he turned to us. I thanked him for speaking with our team, and mentioned how excited Devin was - "never going to wash that hand again" - and kidded how I could now one-up him by saying I shook Woodie's hand on Einstein. Woodie said he didn't know why he had that kind of a celebrity effect on kids, but he was sure glad it was better than them being drawn to something destructive. I know why kids like Woodie, Dean, Dave, the field announcers, etc - because they see someone dedicated to something they love, who are willing to share themselves with "the peons". Most kids can't have a friendly conversation with their own school principal, let alone approach a person known in a wider context. These people take time out of their lives for the kids, and the kids appreciate it.

(*) - Top people have minders who help keep them to their schedule. It's easier for a lesser-known person to interrupt and say something like, "I'm sorry, Woodie, but we have to be in the conference room in 3 minutes."

I am always amazed at the time that the "FIRST Celebrities" spend talking to fellow FIRSTers, posing for pictures, etc. and the patience they have. I have my photo with Dean on my cubicle wall at work (the whole cubicle is filled with FIRST stuff) and am always pleased to explain who he is to anyone who inquires...

Haha, that's what I said too after I met Dean Kamen. Except then I washed my hands pretty soon after that because robots and scouting and stuff make your hands gross.
