My favorite part of all FIRST events are seeing my many friends. Period.

This includes:

The web hug

Playing Catch with Genia

The NEMO and RCU meetings

Hanging in my friends' pits while I (should be) am strategizing

And of course... Shoving brownie in Jaine's face at the wrap up party... Again.

You three teams (25-968-195) need to look back on that decision and see what it really meant...remember it the REST of your lives... You had a great alliance and played extremely well but THAT action showed me who you all are inside...and you are pretty special in my book...

(296-522-217)you guys were great and performed incredibly, both on the field and off...

but my champions on that Saturday were 25-968-195

I really enjoyed seeing that, too.

What makes it even better: this kind of GP between competitors happens more often than non-FIRSTers might expect. There was a very similar incident during the GTR finals.

The most competitive people want to win against opponents that are at the top of their game. Anything less and there will be always be some doubt in their mind about what could have happened differently.

So many favorites! So hard to decide!

1-Realizing that my ENTIRE team had finally "gotten" FIRST. They were cheering for other teams, trying to get the crowd into it, having a great time with NO prompting from the adults!! They eagerly shared with others in the pits, tried to help other teams, and were always GP!

2-ROFL Raptors... one of those you had to be there things, but lets just say our kids made up a new bread of dinosaur, and it had all of us in tears of laughter!!

3-Headed up the escalator on my cell phone I heard "Kim, Kim O'Toole!!!" to look up and see two of my old High School teammates (who had rejoined our HS team!!) yelling for me! I turned around and ran back down the escalator (the wrong way) accidentally hanging up on the person I was on the phone with!! oops!! but the huge hugs were worth it!

4-Watching our driver in a match against two really really good teams, knock both of them off the ramp (unfortunately they actually tipped), then going down the ramp to push the robots "gently" out of the way to make room for our alliance members to climb the ramp!!

5-And of course seeing so many great FIRSTers!! The last night, the awesome XCats, the hug from Jay (who I can only imagine isnt as smushy as Big Mike!), competing with the Huskie Brigade (Go Red Camo!) & Rhode Warriors, Chatting with so many great mentors & most especially my old mentor Dave!

When I saw that happen on Einstein, I about had a heart attack. That was one of the very first things that popped into my mind when our team was having debates about whether to pick up from the floor or not. Our robot didn't really start working until Atlanta and then we never got to try it, so I'm glad someone was using it and using it extremely well!

My favorite moment was seeing the kids never give up. The kids have worked so hard this season but things just didn't go well at the regional level. I pushed for an open entry slot for Atlanta and I'm extremely glad I did. When that robot finally reached its potential and was shooting and picking up balls like it was originally intended, it was a very satisfying feeling. 11th seed is a very frustrating position to be in (not knowing if you'll get to pick OR get picked), and I feel bad for 159 breaking down to allow us to have a shot as a back up, but I'm glad we were able to bring closure to a great showing at the Championships.

my favorite part was going to supper with sparks after the team party and the 100 dollar ice cream bill, well the bill sucked but the overall dinner was great, continual laughing

once when a few members and myself were walking to our hotel, a few FLL teams (at least i think they were FLL) passed by us..and i heard the little whispers: "that's a robotics team! ahhhhhhhh" it was cute and totally weird that someone would/could look up to me or something i represent

This was my first (and most likely last; senior) trip to the finals. When I was going down that one escalator that led to the field between the buildings and getting my first look at it, I felt like Dorothy walking into Oz.

My favorite part of Nationals was on the bus ride home. Our teacher congratulated the seniors for four great years, so it was like a senior night for robotics. It was nice to finally thank all of the seniors.

Another thing that was pretty cool was this getting free Pizza since we work the Papa John's stands during the home Falcon's game and other events at the Georga Dome.
And my conversation with the Dippin' Dots lady
Me: can I get some dippin dots for pizza
DDL: no, we cant trade
Me: I work for MGR, we do this all the time
DDL: no we don't
Me: yes we do:
DDL: well i dont
--pause--
Me: Wait. I know you. I traded with you last time I was here for the Sugar Bowl
DDL: Oh NO. You are right.
Me: so what do you say
DDL: I am not hungry anymore, but if you find a cup, I will get some for you later
After 30 minutes frantically searching for a cup, i finally get one and get my dippin dots

-That ball dump on Einstein was RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME.
-Being able to see one of my favorite teams win the Chairman's Award.
-The after party and getting Dean to sign my shirt and then realizing that i was wearing a shirt that he signed from 3 years ago (yeah during fri and sat. of every comp I wear all the robotics shirts I have ever gotten. 12)
-Magic tricks from team 1746
-fireworks show
-being able to see the faces of the faces of 90 elementary school kids an 105 middle school kids in our district light up after seeing our bot.

This is not the first time 968 has done something like this. They also used a time out to help their opponents in the finals at the LA regional. They are a class act and always have been.

Guess who's team it was they helped?

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

My favorite part was ordering pizza to the marriot.

Basically we call for pizza, they call saying it's here, we go outside to wait for the guy.

We see him pull up, go over to pay for it, and he says since the phone number we left isn't 610 area code (my friend's cell #) but some other area code (he was looking at the hotel number), it wasn't ours.

We proceed to walk away, and call him on the cell phone. He says to meet him in the back of the hotel. We run through the hotel, down a few sets of stairs, ask how to get out the back, down another set of stairs, run out the back door... and he isn't there.

So he has a heavily indian accent, so we generally assume we are looking for an indian man in a dominos car.

He proceeds to say he's on such and such street (which turns out to be the front of the hotel.)

We run LITERALLY the ENTIRE way around the outside of the hotel and he says "Just meet me at the front desk".

Now at this point we see the same dominos guy from earlier pull up, get out of his car, get the pizza, and walk inside. He sees us, but doesn't stop and continues to walk.

We follow him into the hotel and he stands at the side of the front desk.

My friend was like "**** this" and calls his cell phone. The guy answers, turns to my friend and goes "OH!"

I wanted to smack him (it turned out to be a southern looking white male, by the way, not to be racist but the indian accent really threw us off.)

So we just gave him a $6 tip for 'his troubles' (for $21 of pizza) and took it up to our hotel room.

Luckily, all the calories I'd burned running around the hotel came back by eating the pizza. Lucky me.

We were exhausted and histerical by the end of it... my friend waiting up in the room had called us 500 times going like "Where are you?!", and at one point I just answered the phone, said "We've got it" and hung up before he could say anything.

I also enjoyed getting Chick-fil-a every day. I love that stuff.

Yeah, good times man.
