You're a college student learning polka in social dance class, and the instructor puts on the Cotton Eye Joe, and you get really excited thinking about volunteering at competition next week.
You have dinner with a fellow overdosed FIRST college student and commiserate about the fact that you really want to be at the regional your old teams are at that weekend instead of studying for finals, and your friend (who has a car) says, "Let's go!" so you make the 2-hour drive up and surprise everyone (and then you proceed to volunteer!) :) |

I had to go to school on Thursday and Friday of the Seattle Regional because I'll only be in school eight days in April, so my 6th period teacher let me out of class two minutes early on Friday because I was distracting everyone by bouncing up and down.

When you can look someone in the eye, say you spent over 700 hours building a robot as a "hobby" while attending school and they ask "that's it?" followed by them adding up the time they spend at work and realizing they don't even get close to that.
When someone says you are crazy for spending so much time on one thing and you can't think of a better complement someone could have given you. When people don't have to ask why your not having a good day. They know it is because you just got reminded the season is over. |

You get sick the day after the Michigan State Championship. You have a dream about your robot. You draw an incredibly detailed picture of your robot (my friend, who got every detail right down to the motor placement right). You see three FTC robots on the FRC field trying to pick up balls and balance on the bridge and think it's the most adorable thing you've seen. Ever. You start to think about what next year's game could be when this season's not over yet. You start to think of possible offseason activities. You tell your friends you got your shirt signed by Dean Kamen and freak out when they say they have no clue who he is. You know exactly how many days, hours, and minutes until the Championship. You see numbers (phone numbers, time, adresses, math problems) and all you can think about is what team that is. You try to explain all the exciting things that happened at your most recent competition and your non-robotics friends just stare at you. |

When your offseason consists of mentoring FLL and Botball teams until your team starts meeting again. When you are known around school be literally EVERYBODY as the robotics kid. When, no matter whom you're talking to, or what the conversation is about, you always manage to bring up robotics. |

...(for WindRiver users) you are writing a report for English and you're confused as to why pressing Ctrl-B-B doesn't do anything. ...a Jaguar is a small black box that controls motors, and anyone who thinks it's a big cat is wrong. ...(for former FLL people) you can draw out the field, by memory, of FLL games from several years ago. ...you wear your safety glasses more than your normal glasses. ...you hear a foghorn and sigh in agony of a re-do (unless you were losing the match). ...you cheer "Red Alliance!" at normal people sports games. ...you hear three bells and want to walk up to the driver's station. ...you're looking for something in your house, and you want to go to Pit Admin and make an announcement for it. ... you really want a pneumatic programming wrench. |

... when you're crying because you just found out FIRST's and BPA's nationals are on the same 4 days(i found out literally right before BPA awards ceremony) and now that you took first place at states you have to go with BPA and compete in Chicago whether or not you're robotics team wins Buckeye next week and qualifies to go to St. Louis.(we lost at buckeye)
... when you plan to watch the 2012 FIRST Championships online all 4 days in Chicago because you are stuck going to a different national competition :) |

When you get home, the first thing you do is start researching the WPI Java library and drool in anticipation of switching to it from LabVIEW (and shudder at the prospect of persuading your fellow programmers) When on the plane home from Nationals, you're already trying to figure out next year's game. |
