When you're hoping you can manipulate your first year university schedule so you can attend an off-season competition with your team in the fall.
When you notice that they stole the 'end game train sound effect' and distorted it in The Hunger Games movie. When you see an inner tube and you can't help but want to throw said inner tube backwards and over your head - as far as you possibly can. When your first option for procrastinating on homework is re-living matches from many competitions via YouTube. When you have well over a dozen robotics-created inside jokes with your robotics friends that always find an opportunity to re-surface. When you realize FIRST robotics has made you a stronger, more well-rounded individual throughout high school than any of your courses or other teams ever could have done. All of which I am a victim of! I am sure there are more symptoms of being overdosed on FIRST that I can realize I am a victim of as well. But being a victim is a good thing in this case! |

You know you overdosed on FIRST robotics when Amazon.com produces a recommended list of holiday gifts for you to buy for friends, and the top items are Anderson power pole connectors, bearings, wire strippers, and assorted fasteners. You have really overdosed if you think those are really good recommendations and order some of them gift wrapped.

When I was little (middle school age) we hadn't started founding FLL teams yet so I simply worked as an assistant to my older sister on the FRC team. One time I had a truly awful day at school and came home crying. My mother's response? "Do you want to go to the build session tonight? I will make you feel better.."
And it did. It always does. |
