when you buy something you dont want on a robotics trip just so you can have a reciept from the trip that said 229 on it.

you read a story on a double level pit and go to a chinese buffet and design it out of eggrolls and such.

...you wire both cameras to the eduRC and try to get both of them to follow you
...you discover that you actually own a TV and that thing isnt just a fancy light box
...you spend the day in physics thinking about designs for your new mecanum wheels when you should be learning about light which then gets you thinking about the camera

When you have dreams either about robotics competitions or involving people from FIRST :yikes:

-you risk loss of credit in all your classes due to absence in order to attend the championship event in atlanta

-the weekend after the event, you find yourself glued to the soft glow of your computer due to cheif delphi and a long list of excess make-up homework you've neglected to actually make up all week (and being a nerd, it is imparitive that it gets done)

-you were too busy to do hw all week and constantly found yourself talking to anyone and everyone across the country who is involved with robotics, and exclusively them (seeing as robotics is the only thing on your mind)

-you post robotics pics and icons on your myspace (<--it's true...)

-you dream about robots (<--it's true, i've done that too)

-you have a collection of team, safety captian, and driver buttons (in that case that your a driver)

-you have CAD and a C compiler on your home computer or lap top

-you re-arrange your room not to focus on your sweet new guitar and amp (or a multitude of PC's, motherboards, monitors, the works, in a true nerd's case), but rather a collection of robotics parts/buttons

When you awnser your Math teacher's questions about how you will use math in the real world when one of your class mates asks.

Wen you hear the words paint, photoshop, or controls, you run and grab some paper or oepn up GRAHPIX Prog. and start working on OI's that you can possibly make in the future.

You've got a couple teamates, who after nationals, have decided that they've had enough not having the camera working on the robot for two years, and have decided that it will be working by the time the summer is over.

You're headed to Japan tomorrow for a month and are trying to figure out how to make some time to go talk with some high schools about starting a FIRST team! :rolleyes:

Well I just finished my rookie year and I pretty much am a newbie...I must say that I completely agree with this thread...and I am tearing up from just reading it! I miss FIRST!

And I would just like to add:
It seems that the only thing you and your soon-to-be college roommate have in common is the fact that you're both on FIRST teams....and that's enough.

When you go to your college website and see a person's profile you ask "Hey, weren't you at nationals?" They reply with their team number, which field they played on and their record.

...you get invited to multiple proms because you know so many people on teams in neighboring towns.
...you flipped out about the changing lights during finals in Atlanta.
...you flipped out again when you realized they were only kidding.
...you buy the same thing to eat on break at work every day, and it always costs $2.36, and you always say, "Wow, Techno Ticks!"
...over half of the people in your phone book are labelled Name ### because they're on a FIRST team.
...over half of the 200 contacts on your buddy list are in the FIRST group, which is labelled ^o#.
...you plan on going to the only college in Boston that is not yet involved in FIRST, and you know in a year that will not be true.
...you are asked daily what the blue wristband on your wrist is for, and when you are done talking to them they are excited about robots!
...there is nowhere else to put all of the fun things you have picked up from competitions.
...everytime someone mentions graduation, you want to cry because you will no longer be a part of your team.

Your friends are going thru your purse and find your 3 pairs of painted safety glasses (in my team colors of course) and say to me "Megan, only you could pull off carrying safety glasses around in your purse. You are amazing" and then she stole them and won't give them back.
