Summer Vacations?

I would like to know what all of you guys are doing for your summer vacations.

I myself, am taking a 2 week cruisetour from Vancouver, BC up the coast of Alaska. 6 Days on Royal Caribbeans' "Radiance of the Seas" and then 7.5 days of inland train tours all through the state of Alaska. I'm so excited, the scenery is absoloutly stunning from the pictures I've been looking at and I'm sure seeing it in person will be even more amazing that I could have imagined. I leave July 7th and I'm soooooo excited :D

Now it's your turn, share the details!

I will, for the most part, be bumming around Colatown for the bigger part of summer. Later in June, I'll be headed up to Maine for a month to teach at an arts camp up that way.

Re: Summer Vacations?

This is going to sound strange, but I'm spending all of July and August in Thailand visiting friends and family(my mom's side). It should be fun, but sometimes I wonder if it would be cheaper and simpler to stay around PA and go to the shore... Did anybody know that on international flights they are now charging an extra fee for fuel! That's ridiculous! My family has to pay $65 per person in addition to the tickets! What is going on in this world! :D

Re: Summer Vacations?

I only have a few Vacation days left. I don't normally take Vacation during the summer months, I mean.. FIRST comps are what it's all about. And those are in March/April.

The days I do have left, I will be taking one day in October for a annual family trip to Salem Mass. for the haunted happenings up there, and then more than likely take a half day for my sister's 8th grade graduation, and another half day for my own if the paperwork goes through on time.

Then I have team 237's HS graduation to attend as well, but I don't think that will require any vacation time since they start pretty late anyways.

Oh, and I'm almost being forced to go to IRI, not that I will object much (:p), but that may require one day as well.

What is a summer vacation? I am going to plan the picnic with Tiffany, attend IRI, go to work, and get ready for school next year. If I am lucky I will be able to go on a road trip. I do, however, plan to spend a lot of my summer in Chicago with friends before we all seperate.

I'm going to Disneyland next week. Does that count?

In June, I'll be back in New York for a spell.

I'm still trying to find places to go in July and August. I'd like to see Las Vegas and I'll probably take another trip to California.

Summer vacation? What's that?
I'll be working full-time. Luckily, I don't have the usual High School student job that involves being on your feet all the time, I get to sit in a comfy leather chair, and type on the computer.

I'm spending the Fourth of July at my parent's summer house on Crystal Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of NY. I'd trade Texas-nothing for NY-mountain-lakes anyday. I absolutely cannot wait.

Currently on a week vacation to Disney World
Weekend on Cape Cod sometime this summer
Maybe IRI - it depends on if I get a certain internship or not
Maybe Tenessesse for a week - my father has a yearly conference in August for electricians/teaching and I might go this year since I haven't been in about 8 years

Re: Summer Vacations?

1. Annual family gathering at aunt's house in Clinton, MI over the Fourth of July for swimming and barbequeing.

2. IRI fun in late July.

3. Visiting my sister in Ogden, Utah later in the summer (lots of nice National Parks and scenery out that way). Trying to convince myself to take a side trip to Vegas during that time.

4. Random visits to Niagara Falls area to part ways with my money at the poker tables.

5. Canada's Wonderland in late summer/early fall, hopefully with a robot in tow.

Maddie, you know you want to come visit me in Houghton in July! ;)

My summer looks like this:

May 1-June 14: Pewaukee, WI (home) with a few random trips to Appleton, WI
June 14-August 8: Houghton, MI (work) with no trips anywhere, including IRI :(
August 9-September 4: Pewaukee, WI (home) with a few random trips to Appleton, WI

No vacation for me!

Mostly work and Cedar Point during the summer. Might take a trip to Traverse City to visit family. I also plan on going up to Silver Lake to go dune riding on four-wheelers with my friend and his father.

Re: Summer Vacations?

I'm soo excited! The day after school gets out for us (June 16) I'm leaving with my best friend to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands to scuba dive and stay in the Amazon Rainforest. Yea, the extra fee for the airplane fuel was $75 for me. After the trip is IRI! yay! Hopefully I get to do the Three Day breast cancer walk, and then in early august I'm going to be running the annual Crystal Lake Marathon in Northern Michigan (an awesome event for all of you long distance runners out there!) then skydiving for the first time. It's going to be a pretty busy summer for me, I can't wait! :D

But DC is so much better. :p

I have a trip to Indy planned, (Mike, do you think you can fit in my car?) a few trips to my friends beachhouse on the Eastern Shore, a few short weekend camping trips and hopefully a week at my girlfriends great-aunt/uncles farm outside Schenectady, NY with a side trip to Lake George.

I plan to work a little too...

Re: Summer Vacations?

Commencement is on a Friday; Saturday the wife and I fly out to St. Lucia for a 1-week sailboat Windjammer cruise. Check out the flora and fauna of the Grenadines, hike through some rain forests, snorkel, visit some volcanoes, then spend a week diving at Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia. (It should be noted that this vacation is rather cheap - first week of hurricane season! Yay! I've seen it rain from 80 feet below; watching a 'cane should be quite an experience.) After getting nicely toasted in the Caribbean, we'll head north for a fishing/camping trip with the in-laws in Caliper Lake Provincial Park, Ontario. Then I get to go to Missouri for some PLTW training, cut out a day early for the IRI, and two weeks later school begins.
Also, squeeze in some golfing and sailing. Brother-in-law just put a catamaran in the local reservoir; hopefully we'll learn how to sail this summer.

In June, we're taking a road trip, just like we used to do every summer, stuffing the boys in the back seat and visiting national parks across the country. This year, we are flying to the left coast, renting a car and visiting parks in Oregon and Washington. The boys, now in college and high school have agreed to come along. No email, no telephone, no FIRST. I can't wait....

The IRI Road Trip of Doom with the Gael Force Crew, then mostly working, a summer class (because I'm awesome), and as many 3 day weekends of hiking in NH/VT/ME as possible. :D

Re: Summer Vacations?

The classes I'm taking this summer limit us to two weeks in August for vacation, and so we're just going to be heading to the cottage in Connecticut again... the quiet, rustic cottage with the 13 inch TV that only gets two stations (barely) and where the only Internet service is dial-up (I told you it was rustic). Oh, and while the toilet is indoors, the shower isn't! Shower during the day, you have to deal with people walking on the path that runs next to the house... shower at night and you shower with friends, namely, big, hairy, long-legged spiders.

But simple is worth it... especially for walks on the beach on evenings like this one and sunsets like this. Of course, for some excitement, we'll head over to the Foxwoods casino one night, and we're thinking of heading to Salem (Mass) for a whale watching trip, and of course, we'll visit my favorite place in all of Connect-the-dots... the Bookbarn (over 20 rescue cats roam the grounds... cats and books... best combination ever!)

Okay, so in my heart I'm dreaming of that cruise that goes into Russia... but that will have to wait until I finish school and Connecticut will do just fine for now.

Earlier part of summer, I'll be staying in West Lafayette with family and helping out with a summer class at my high school that is science research based, mainly serving as a mentor for it.
