So you may have seen it in mine and Adam Richard’s signatures and wondered what is this cdXc thing? We’ll it’s finally here…chiefdelphi.comXcore/ or cdXc.

What is cdXc you ask? It’s basically just a “club” I guess… just to show your addiction to cdXc.

Now not just anyone can be in cdXc… You have to apply and meet the guidelines.

There’s a link to the “webpage” in mine and Adam Richard’s profile, don’t bother with it just yet, I’m to lazy to fix it.

That’s what you have to give us in the beginning. Once we look over that, we will see if you meet the other TOP SECRET Guidelines…since we need to make sure you are truly addicted. If you don’t make all the guidelines, we’ll contact you and give you an alternative way to “join”

Junior Program
For people who wish to be cdXc but do not currently meet the requirements. If you do not meet the requirements you will be notified and we will suggest membership to the Junior Program. There is no real standard for this program nor do you need to reapply.


Also, we are in need of a logo, I’ve given it two shots, and failed miserably, so special something to someone who comes up with a BLACK and WHITE, SIMPLE logo that contains “cdXc” (don’t change the caps) and chiefdelphi.comXcore/ (again don’t change the caps its just how we want it)

The story: It was 3am, on a Tuesday night (Wednesday morning) in April, I was tired and goofy and I was on the phone with Adam…and we began to talk about how addicted we are to FIRST and ChiefDelphi, it started out as hxc (hard core) FIRSTers…and I didn’t like that, so I was like ChiefDelphi Core!! (cdXc)…and yeah that’s the story.

You will be judged based upon these factors. The criteria for winning will not be announced, but over time you may be able to figure out a few of them.

I saw the link in your signature and did wonder what it is, but I still don't understand... what exactly is cdXc? Addiction to CD & FIRST? Sorry if you already explained and I haven't picked up the ball yet.

EDIT: I noticed that the site is being hosted on freewebs. The server that runs my team's site has extra capacity if you are intrested... :rolleyes:

I myself don't even fully understand. I belive it's more an addiction to ChiefDelphi than to FIRST. Personally I spend about 4-5 hours on ChiefDelphi daily.

If my team falls threw with getting me a domain for our website, I'll be in contact. I won't know until the 2006-2007 School Year tough. The offer is much appreciated.

I don't like it for the simple reason there is a "dx" in it and I am sick of math. That, and I don't see myself as an elite on these forums (just an ordinary poster, with an extraordinary number of posts).

Not exactly. Its really quite simple to be accepted into cdXc, and is based solely upon how well you answer a small question and fulfill certain requirements, which are only known to 3 people currently. You need not live in a certain geographic area or be friends with certain people. All are welcome as long as you are relatively recognizable on the forums.

It's not a popularity contest at all. It's open to everyone who says they are addicted to chiefdelphi, we just use to guidelines to kinda prove that you are, and thats why we are willing to make exceptions to the guidelines.

I'm considering changing the application process (but I can't do that until Adam gets off work..) since people think this is turning into a popularity/cool contest. Its not that, we just want to make sure you're addicted. We haven't turned anyone down yet. (someone who would be turned down would be like on the forum for 5 months and has like one post..)

Also, we've decided to offer one person a day, honorary membership. This meaning, we know they're cdXc, they just haven't applied.

As we have been receiving applications, we've been receiving screen shots of the actual amount of bars someone has for reputation. We're not really looking for the bars, we should of specified it other wise, I know but we really want the number from the user cp.

At random times during the day we will begin checking to see your online status. If you are online, we will give you a point. Once you have accumulated a certain number of points, you will automatically be granted full status.

Possible time checks will range from:
3pm - 3am.

I'm just wondering why you feel that someone with little reputation and limited posts is not addicted to Chiefdelphi? Why do you need to see how many Rep points someone has? Or how many times they have posted?

I personally don't see the point of this group. I was probably on Chiefdelphi for almost one and a half years before I began posting anywhere near consistently, and most of those posts were in the chit-chat forum. That doesn't mean I wasn't addicted to the site. I simply didn't feel I had the experience to post in the sections of the forum I enjoyed reading. I was addicted to reading old threads on drive systems (ex: Mark, Andy, and the Technokittens '03 ball drive) The fact that I had no reputation, no posts, and no real recognition on these forums did not mean I didn't surf it's pages for 4-6 hours a night reading.

The only group you need to be a part of to gain recognition as a ChiefDelphi addict, or enthusiast, or supporter... whatever you'd like to call yourself, is ChiefDelphi.com itself.

I am addicted to ChiefDelphi, and I don't need to be a member of this little clique to prove it.

I realize that it may seem like it's a popularity contest. But again it's not.

Really, I'm not even sure why the post/rep is there. I just know it is, and it works. We have yet to turn down anyone and I doubt we ever will. It was so posted to be a fun little group.

From the feed back I've been getting, it seems that people either love it or they hate it. I just wish more people would love it than hate it. (I realize they are strong words, but its the expression)

If it was all about proving yourself by rep and posts, we wouldn't be doing honorable members. Again, Honorable Members are people that we see on Chief Delphi, ALLOT. So we offer up the member ship. Actually, we Email/PM/IM them and are just like "Hey, this is who we are here's your button".

I really wish people would not look so far into this, we're not trying to make people feel any less or more superior than others than they are, nor are we trying to point out who's better. Just who's addicted.

We also have the Junior Program, which is people who are addicted but haven't posted allot. I understand that this part DOES seem like a popularity contest, but it isn't. We're just making sure they're into CD for the long run.

Being addicted isn't just about your rep count/ post count, but theres really no way to tell other than that, thats why we chose that route. It doesn't mean you're addicted or not, it's just our way that you're telling the truth.

And (on a more serious note?), as far as rep points go, only you can see how many you have as a total number value. No one else can see how many you have. The only sorting by rep one can do is by totals.. but the actual number of rep points does not show up, just the number of light green/dark green colored buttons.

If there was a way to track time spent surfing cd for individuals, that would be the best way to rank somoene in terms of addiction, but for now I guess post numbers can be the biggest factor.

And, essays.. aye.. why an essay Michelle & Adam?? I hate writing.. stuff... lol

Well I'm not really sure what the think of cdXc.
I agree that it will end up with hurt feelings, and for no good reason. But of course the whole "cdXc" thing is kinda cool.

Possible solution:
Anyone is free to use the cdXc userbar and say that they're cdXc, but as a common courtesy, people should send FruityPebbles or AdamRichards a PM or email saying that they're using the cdXc idea.

We're discussing a major rule change.

Look for it soon. (Hopefully if we both can agree)

It has to do with more ease of membership, to prevent "hurt feelings"

We'll see what happens. Depending on when Adam has finals we'll deal with it. I have finals Monday/Tuesday. I know he has them toward the end of the monthish. We'll see what happens.

Adam and myself have recently discussed the acceptance requirements for cdXc and realize, they're to high.

Those of you who have applied know there is a Chief Delphi Quiz. The quiz is going to stay. Why? Because if you're addicted to Chief Delphi, you'd know it or be able to find it. (Trust me, it's not that hard. We did some beta testing on non-FIRSTers and they passed it. And only one person has ever failed it, and they shall remain confidential as we're still trying to figure out how to deal with it.)

Also, we're going to drop the post count/rep count. Instead, We're going to request that you send the Post Per day average.

All "Junior" Members will be automatically upgraded to full, You will be contacted within the next few days as I have stated before, we're in the processes of doing finals and we're trying to keep up with this :)

The new application will now be as follows

And then after that, we'll send the little CD Quiz.

I see you are getting A LOT of critisism from this.

IMHO this is one of the sadder things in cd.com. If you don't like it, than please don't bash it. This is one of the main reasions why I tend to not post here in the chit-chat anymore.

It's already been asked, and IMHO I don't see it as a popularity contest. I won't be joining up because I just don't feel like it - but people that tend to bash - please stop. Especally after there has been 1 or 2 threads about it. So what if they went to make it? Big whoop - they love it so they 'branched off' (if you will) to make their own little thing.

If I wanted to - i could make this into a HUGE flame post, but I won't do that. I can troll until living end, but PLEASE REMBER ONE THING!!!

Ahhemm... I think I have a solution to your addictive-ness woes. IMHO, anyone who spends enough time on CD to know about cdXc, signatures, reputation, and has the initiative to contact you via PM is already addicted.

I've gone ahead and re-done my teams site, which means the location of the cdXc page has moved. It is still located on my team site and is viewable here..

Also, we've decided that the only thing we look at is your essay (and the quiz too). So if it's original, you're in basically. I'm trying to change this around to just a Chief Delphi fan club :). Come on we need more members ;).

cdXc has been a nice run, but I think that it's time to end it. It went threw enough reticule, and with the lack of new members Adam and myself have decided to close this thing for good.
