PICK YOUR SPONSORS

Alright, If you could pick any company to sponser your team, who would they be and why?

JamesBrown 08-05-2006 23:03

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I assume you mean a sponsor who would give you a place to work and give some support, not just money.

If my assumption is right I would pick OCC (from American chopper) They have the ability to do anything in house and also have a decent base of people with mechanical knowledge. Plus the old shop looks like the ideal place for a practice field.

Sorry for the misconception. What I meant to say is a sponsor who would give you money and support. Not necessarily a place to work

I'd take the production company that does mythbusters. They would have some good ideas

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I would like to have my college sponsor Team 204. Even though it is a community college, the engineering dept rocks and also has a lot of tools.

Maybe Dupont also.

You mean M5 Industries. Then you could get your robot on TV! :)

How about Apple? The robot would be simple to operate, rarely crash, and just work. Plus it would have a very clean look.

I would pick a college, such as MIT or Georgia Tech. -A place where you can work and be taught as well

I'd take Laron Incorporated myself.

Innovation First . . cause I wanna see just what that board can do.

also BOSE would be cool . Best cart ever award.

Mercedes-Benz USA, 'cause they make the best cars anywhere.

I wouldn't trade Nypro for the world. Between the people, money, facilities, and overall love of our team by the employees and community, it really makes the team what it is.

I'm going to have to go with Sony. Have you seen those dancing robots, those things are sweet!

CraigHickman 08-05-2006 23:53

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

Sony's great and all, but all they give is computers and a camera.

Personally I would pick Nvidia, cause you could get some sweet computer rigs.

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSORS

Mountain Dew, to keep the team running during the build season and competitions. :D

iGUS, because they make a ton of cool stuff and they have a cool company name.

Our existing team sponsors (Meriden, Conn. Board of Education and Bristol Myers Squibb)

A bunch of big companies like GM, NASA, etc for the financial backing.

and ESPN, because their world HQ is 20 minutes away and it makes your team sound impressive to non-FIRSTers be sponsored by ESPN.

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

Oh man would I kill to be a GM team again. They were definately an awesome sponsor. Not only were they there financially, but there were mentors and everyone I ever met from that company was entirely supportive.

Other than that, our sponsors this year have been terrific! Thank you NASA, Dart Foundation, Touchstone Energy, Playmakers & Cawood Building Supply!

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

Heh.

I would take anyone who wrote the team a check that didn't bounce. My favorite sponsor is the one that wrote the largest check that didn't bounce.

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I'd Give anything to have a main sponsor again. As of right now and the past four years our community has done a great job of helping us for support. So my answer would be and sponsor that would work with the kids to give them the basic knowledge of engineering from all aspects. Something our team has never done before was to have an Engineer on the team. We had an Engineer from another team join our team this year and he has done a great job wanting to get involved with the engineering process and really show the kids what it's about. I just wish I was still in school to have learned more before going to college lol.

Um, before you approach Kellogs you might check their product lines. You won't get sponsorship from Kellogs when you mention a General Mills cereal. :ahh:

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

Georgia Tech is a great sponsor for us to have. they support us a great deal on the robot side financially and they are great mentors to have, not just robot wise, but they teach us a lot more too.

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I would take any sponsor that would give a FIRST team ability to compete every year.

Taylor 09-05-2006 10:41

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I'd have to go with Nike or Coca-Cola or Disney. We could have a decent robot with an operating budget of a couple billion.

Alex Cormier 09-05-2006 10:49

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I would also go with the sponsor who would like to have more then 1 team and gives enough money to each team to make them successful, that is the ideal sponsor.

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

hmmm... it would be tough... but i would like MIT or BMW... lol cause #1 ive never seen a broken down bmw (not broken down because of an accident or neglect to keep the car in check) and also because they have that funny comercial... lol. also MIT because we could learn from them as they would give out pointers... if they were to come to ny.. :)

Hmm... what's here in Colorado? All I can think of right now is the airforce academy and I'm not sure if they sponsor any teams...

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

hmm in a perfect world we would be sponsored by google and apple, i wonder if being sponsored by google would help you to find the green light (get it hahaha sooo corny I know)

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

Well we already have a cool company, HowStuffWorks. (But, we will likely lose them, management change) But, anyway.... lets see.... big techish compainies/organisations and univeristies with operations in North Carolina... hmmmm lets see, Duke University, UNC-Ch, Sigma Xi, GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, SAS, Cree, BASF, IUPAC, DuPont, Cisco, Lenovo, Nortel, Sony, Underwriters Laboratories inc. (UL), and the mutha of the PC industry, designers of the fastest computer in the world, builders of one of the fastest semi-mainstream processors in the world, IBM. (Imagine what having them could do to your render times) And, I almost forgot, the company that has contributed a huge amount to the high tech/engineering professions, Krispey Kreme.Boy, that collection would make your team well funded in no time. (Which is why it's weird that NC has only six teams.)

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

SBC Communications. They have engineers building lanlines, Cell Phone Communications Towers, Servicing them, and programing them, also, we could try to get a special eddition FIRST phone.

Reallity Check: Motorola, GM, (Well, SBC could support us financaly,) GM(heard they are a good sponcer.), KSC (Kenedy Space Centere, not all of NASA, but a part of it). um..... all the wonderful sponcers we have now, EA, um..... Dell (They could give us all sorts of goodies.) and finally, Our school.....getting involved more, (we have some exposure, but next year, hopefull the whole school will be WHOLEHEARTEDLY behind us.)

Do you need glasses? I've owned two -- great performance but somewhat less reliable than the Ford Escort I bought when I graduated from college back in the Pleistocene.

Taylor 09-05-2006 17:02

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

I've come to the conclusion that the Ford Escort is made of the same stuff they use to make those black boxes in airplanes.
Purdue - great engineering school (Boiler Up!) and home of some of the greatest robotics chants.

Let's all go nuts!

I think Mountain Dew, Cheese It to our current sponsor NASA would own. Why? Because 99% of the time there are Mountain Dew, and Cheesits Its at our work

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSERS

First off our sponsors we have are amazing (so I'd pick them first), but now for sponsors we dont have...
I don't have a clear cut winner here so heres my top two:

1. Google - I mean who wouldn't want google
2. Volvo - they stand for many things our team does, most important being safety

santosh 09-05-2006 17:44

Re: PICK YOUR SPONSORS

One person/company I would lik to be sponsored by personally would be Arthur Blank. I know he has the Arthur Blank foundation which sponsors atleast 1 team in Atlanta, but I owuld love to have him sponsor us. He owns the Falcon's and helped start Home Depot. he is a great guy and a realy team player. He goes to the same Synagouge as one of our mentors too...
