So, if your signature is missing a line or twelve at the bottom, it's not a bug or a problem with the software -- it's a problem with your signature; edit it as necessary.

Thanks,

p.s. This is only going to work in Firefox, Netscape 6+, Opera 5+, and Safari 1.3+ and IE7.

I run on AOL and by saying this doesn't work for me does that mean my signature appears different to me than it would to a IE7 or Firefox user? (If it is over the limit)

The difference being that you'll see it all .. those who have the feature supported will only see approximately 150-200 pixels of it.

Old-ish topic, I know, but I wanted to bring up something I noticed.

Normally, I use a PC with Mozilla Firefox, and the 200 px cutoff works fine.
But here, a work, I use a mac with Safari, and I have noticed that Safari cuts off more than 200 pixels on people's signatures (or it cuts off more than Firefox does). I first noticed it when looking at Arefin's signature (which I guess is close to 200 px), and the very bottom of it is cut off when I am using Safari, but is entirely visible when using Firefox.

Maybe this is a bug - if not, I can live with it, but if it's a problem I thought you might want to know. It might be related to the new feature that allows people to say what event they are attending underneath their signature (maybe one browser considers it a part of the signature, and the other doesn't?).

I like the addition of the 200px display limit... makes reading the forums much easier. Thanks!

Re: Signature Size Enforcement

The reason for the differences across browsers is in the way each handles the specifics of font sizing. The same CSS font size (from xx-large to xx-small, with default being medium) may have slightly different pixel counts between different browsers and platforms. Also, the spacing between lines is subject to browser defaults because the line-spacing attribute is not defined in ChiefDelphi's style sheet.

The reason this is all relevant is two-fold. First, it effects the actual size that the signature occupies. Second, the signature maximum height is not actually defined as 200px (pixels), but as 12.5em (which is approximately 200 pixels). An em unit size is a function of the text size, which as I mentioned can vary slightly. This is not a bug on Brandon's part, but an expected (although possibly undesirable) deviation.
