I will be studying Mechatronics Engineering. It's a blend of mechanical, electrical, computer, and systems design engineering.

FIRST has taught me that I don't want to be an engineer. I am on my way to becoming an Paramedic (EMT-P). I have learned that helping people and "Making my grandmother proud" is something that I really love to do.

What I want to major in is in just about continuous flux. I'm pretty certain that I want to do Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace would be my ideal major, but I figure that it limits my future job choices quite a bit. For my second major either Physics or Chemistry. My Dad and my brother both did Chemistry, and I like the field, but I really would prefer Physics, but Chem seems more employable. After all that, maybe a minor in Philosophy, Psychology, or Environmental Science?

I will be studying to become a mechanical engineer at RPI, and hope to be able to get a concentration in both design and manufacturing. I am completely addicted to the manufacturing process and making things that work. FIRST introduced me to this concept originally. I took a full year machine tool processing class this year, spending 4 months on manual machining and 6 months on CNC machines. This really cemented my love of making things. I learned Mastercam and how to run post processed programs on the mill and lathe. I also learned introductory G-code for the lathe (mill I haven't tried yet), and have written several programs completely from scratch. And while I am doing this, as my user title indicates, I love it. I have applied and interviewed for a job at a local precision CNC machine shop for the summer so I can get experience in industry before I go to college. Thanks to FIRST I realized that engineering and manufacturing was a passion of mine, and that I wanted to pursue it as a career.

You could do Biochemical Engineering, before my HS senior year thats what I wanted to do... its the major that does a lot of DNA research and things like that... I dont know all the crazy stuff they do now as I went into Electrical engineering...

Don't ever be sorry to be who you are! I do labwork as well, working with cancer proteins, and I know I won't be an Engineer when I grow up. :) Yay Medicine.
