FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
FIRST has taken down their web site due to flooding and the power company not able to ensure good/constant power.

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Wow. That's too bad. I've always wondered why they don't have a remote dedicated server.

I heard the Merrimack was cresting last night on the news and immediately wondered if it would affect FIRST in any way. I guess I have my answer. It's kind of funny too in a sense, as we were just discussing the flood of 02 in FIRST's headquarters the weekend if Nats, and the possible relevance to the game the following year. My theory was that FIRST needed some storage totes to save stuff from the water that was coming in from the floor above them, and then someone was inspired to use those storage containers as game objects. What will this flood mean for next year's game??? One can only speculate.. |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
yup. I got the day off of work because my office has standing water in it. DEKA is right next to the river, and when i got there this morning they wouldn't let us into the building, but apparently there is 4ft in the basement of the building, and standing water on the first floor (my floor). The ironic thing is that i work on the water project and we can't deal with a bit of water on the floor

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
The Merrimack is supposed to crest about 10 feet above flood stage today into tommorow, Manchester is worried, if it gets much worse 3/4 of the mill yard will be devastated. I myself am high and dry, but the mighty Merrimack River is showing no mercy. I can't speak for Massachussetts, but in NH we as of today have 700 roads in NH closed because of impassable washouts, EVERY River is above flood stage, and 32 communities have been displaced since thursday. The one saving grace so far in this storm, is that all of our major dams have withstood the force *so far*. A few have shown concern, but have stood at this point. The town of Goffstown has closed EVERY road to residents, and only Emergency vehicles can traverse the roads. In Henniker NH, EVERY road in the town has some sort of damage making it almost impossible to commute to. This rain isnt supposed to stop until NEXT THURSDAY. Anybody wanna build an Ark with me?

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
AGAIN? I know FIRST doesn't have a lot of money, but still guys, think about maybe moving the servers to somewhere better, like, oh, Dean's house?
Well, that's bad news. I hope everything is alright. |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
CNN.com is showing some really bad flooding. Bad.
I was thinking about posting and asking if everyone is ok...... Please keep us all posted - Jane |

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Instead of negative replies/statements, let's all of us here on Chief Delphi wish the best of luck to everyone in the effected area including but not limited to: FIRST, DEKA, AutoDesk, and everyone who's home, health and love ones are at risk.
Maybe next years game will have something to do with water? Imagine building a field, then flooding it with 2 feet of water! |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
I'm willing to bet that if FIRST was considering a water game before, they'll be sick of it by the end of that storm.
I hope everyone and everything up there bounces back quickly. |

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Wow, that pretty bad!
On a side note: when I first saw the title of this thread I immediatly thought bandwidth flooding. I then thought "hmm, who would want to attack the FIRST website?" I guess unfortunately the answer to that would be "Mother Nature." |

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
This is really something. Michigan has been getting one heck of a lot of rain too, and the sun won't be peeking through for a good while yet.

I first saw this thread's title and thought we were doing a such a good job of spreading the word of FIRST that too many people flooded the FIRST website. I guess that was just wishful thinking. :( oh, well! I live in New Jersey and we've been getting, and are scheduled for, a lot of rain. |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Am I lucky that I live over here! I wouldn't be able to play the watergun games at my birthday party this Friday if we got that much rain...
Hopefully some sun will show and dry the rain in an instant like it does over here in Colorado. :D Please let everyone be safe! |

You can pretty much tell from the pictures, New Hampshire is quite a mess right now. I had the opportunity to travel up and down the Merrimack today and everywhere from Manchester to Concord and beyond is spotted with floods. The fortunate thing is that officials and everyone else did a wonderful job of keeping everyone on their toes and though damage will be pretty extensive, injury and loss of life will be minimal to none. So dont worry...we're all tough cookies up here, we'll pull through! |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Uh-oh, this doesn't look good for all of us here in New Jersey. It just started raining this evening. I dearly hope it's not going to get as bad as it is up there! :ahh:
Heh, I also thought that the "flooding" meant bandwidth flooding when I first saw it, too. :p |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
does anyone know where i can get an old copy or cache of the usfirst site? I kinda need it for the frcdocs pages and spec sheets

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
I can feel for the folks in Manchester...This was Franklin after Hurricane Floyd came thru in 1999....
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...lr%3D%26sa%3DN And this picture was taken after the water went down some... btw..Franklin is at least 50 miles from the coast. |

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
My family has called me (I'm from up there) and told me the town roads are in wreck (Derry, 15 mins south of Manchester)... but most homes as far as they can tell are ok. They haven't been to Manchester.. can't get there with a sure way to get home... so she couldn't tell me how bad off they are up there.
I send best wishes to everyone up in the Tri-State Area, including my family. I wish everyone well, and hope the water falls soon. Matthew J Glennon |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Not only is the site back up, http://usfirst.org (no www) finally redirects you to the actual page instead of just balking at you!

Glad everything is okay.
I don't know for NH, but here in CT, we just broke out in sunshine among the clouds. Still cold, but it was bright. I hope the same applies for NH. I like rain, but NOT that much rain. Daisy |

The rain has been aggravating in CT, but nowhere near as bad as it evidently is in NH. Best wishes to all of you! |
Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
Best wishes to everyone caught up in the flooding, I hope all turns out okay... Let's hope the insurance companies pay out and that the damage is not as bad as it looks.
We'd expect it to be raining here in England but we're having a drought at the moment... The weather systems seem to have gone mad in the last year or two. |

Re: FIRST Web site down due to Flooding
we are fine. The river has dropped considerably today and the flooding has gone away in most areas. I got in to see my desk yesterday morning (and it was dry). I guess the water filled the basement but not much farther. There is still no power in my building, so we temporarily move to dean's house. Today we came back and shared another space in the building next door, hopefully there will be power back on by Friday. Thanks for all the kind words, but it appears that for us the water was much more of an inconvenience then anything else.
