FIRST Cell Phone

Hey, i just thought of an idea that might actually work

Seince Motorola sponcers a couple of teams (108, 111 come to mind.) wouldn't it be a good idea to release a special eddition Motorola Phone for FIRST, maybe something that has the capibility of watching webcasts, getting basic info

or at least have a mobile version of the FIRST website, with basic info on updates as they come out, scores for regionals, standings, and of course, mobile CheifDelphi. (tried it on my SLVR, didn't work)

anyone agree,

PS: Team 1402 has contacts with Motorola, we just want to get support for this so we can actually ask this question to motorola.

Why not just do this?

Re: FIRST Cell Phone

lol i wouldnt do that because i dont have an Andy Mark Sticker, or for that matter any sticker that is related to FIRST

I would by a FIRST cell phone in a heart beat...as long as it looked good, how about a special edition RAZR or something.

Heh, that's a kid from our team. My brother also decked out his phone for nationals. He put the FIRST logo as the outside screen wallpaper, the Aim High logo as the inside screen wallpaper, and the "F-I-R-S-T" song as his ringtone.

Re: FIRST Cell Phone

Somehow I doubt Motorola would go to the lengths of releasing a FIRST cell phone.

However, it would be pretty cool if someone (anyone?) made an application that could be downloaded and run on Motorola phones that had information on FIRST, and perhaps something cool like scouting at competitions? I see a FIRST program or application on cell phones being more realistic than a phone for a specific limited audience.

Motorola phones DO support Java applications.

I have seen people create mobile sites to access their computers so they could access their files and stored information anywhere via their phone browser.

P.S. Opera has a pretty nifty mobile browser.

I would definitely advertise AndyMark on my cell phone if I had an AndyMark sticker!! *coughcough* :yikes:

Re: FIRST Cell Phone

If it works anything like the POS Motorola MPX220 I had before, it wouldn't be worth the parts it was made with. By far one of the worst cellphones i've ever owned.

For me to buy a like what everyone is talking about it would have to be affordable for students.

But it would be kind cool.

I used to have a picture, but I remember they produced a custom faceplate and wallpaper (you could only get from the internet) back in 2000/2001/2002. I think I remember seeing a girl from 111 with it.

Too bad I have a Samsung phone with Sprint service...

I would hit up some FIRST related stickers in a heartbeat though! Mayhaps I can make some with Staples sticker paper...

Ok so if you happen to be somebody with a RAZR, SLVR, or ROKR motorola has created these, tatoos that you stick onto your phone that you can design and print out yourself.

I will so get it, but it will only be good for 3 days in a year for me (depending on how many regonals you go to). I just think the process would be a big. I just wonder how much it will cost motorola to develop it and then host it. If they do this I will so sign up depending on how much it costs. I would be happy if they had wi-fi at the regonals telling you the scores online. :)

I'm not sure about usfirst.org, but some sites have a CSS stylesheet that is defined for use with mobile devices. If they don't already, maybe a group of people could petition them to create one?

Hell, I'm sure there are some people who would do it for free. All FIRST would have to do is upload it.

Hey that's a very smart idea! I am willing to host it. I have unlimited bandwidth on my server.

A SE cellphone would be cool. or maybe just a FIRST theme pack for your phone (menus, sounds, animated background)

I can get CD on my treo 650. But thats more a PDA than a cellphone.

Some of us don't have MDA's or Sdekick II's with real web browsing. im talking about something that can be run on a miniBrowser like a WAP, or the one that Motorola gives you with your phone (This excludes the mpx220, bc that has WM5 and therefore has real web browsing)

Anyways, also, what would you guys want on the phone besides first gear.

im hopefully getting a job with Cingular in Sept. (when i turn 18), so i could bring this to the table for Cingular. and thereforre you wouldn't just have a random $300 phone floating around that Motorola gets mad at bc noone is buying it. but with a two year contract or a upgrade, im sure that they would love to have a phone thats $50 with the contract than $300 without.

on top of that, we would all be able to call each other for FREE!!!

Being a cell phone giz wiz, I love surfing the web on my phone when i'm away.

If you ever need to access a website through a phone. Go to aol.com and it will send you to a wap page.
2. Click Search.
3. Type in your address and select "Surf the Web"

I can confirm CD compatibility on the following phones:

(PDA's of all carriers are assumed)
(Below phones are phones I own/owned that are capable)

Verizon
LG VX-8100
LG VX-9800 (The V)
Motorola E815
Motorola V710
Razor

T-Mobile
Razor
Sidekick 1 (color) and 2
Motorola PEBL
Samsung x495
Samsung T609
Samsung e635
Samsung t809

Samsung D307
Razor
Motorola MP220
Motorola L2

Sprint-Nextel

Hope that helps!

I made a "FIRST" Phone, it's around here somewhere. I have so many phones, I keep them in a special phone storage box. I'll for it and if I find it i'll post a pic on CD.

On verizon it's great!
I have a $15.00 vcast subscription on all my phones and it gives me unlimited airtime, on top of tv, etc.

I do agree that if you don't get an unlimited plan it's like a vaccum cleaner on steroids.

I currently have one phone to announce that is not compatible with CD:

Sony erricson T226,T237, and older models from that series.

Hope it helps!

The field failure foghorn sound if a call drops would be pretty cool. (Although that's FIRST gear) Support for RSS feeds from CD? How about a special form of the manual that can be read on the phone? (Or a pdf reader) Maybe ability to watch the webcasts? (Don't know how fast cell i-net is) Built in version of JVN's motor calculation spread sheet, graphing calculator functions? EasyC? (<--- I realize this'll probably not happen ever)
