Re: J&J or BMS sponsored teams

Genia is missing a BMS sponsored team - 381, Trenton... :D
But that's not bad.
Also, isn't 433 sponsored by J&J?

Re: J&J or BMS sponsored teams

433, the Firebirds, are sponsored by McNeil Consumer in Ft. Washington, which is a J&J company. McNeil Consumer sponsors two more teams, I believe, however I can no longer remember which teams they are. I think if you include all of the companies that are in the J&J family, you will find many more. Other J&J companies that I know sponsor teams, though I don't know which teams, are J&J Pharmaceutical Research and Development (PRD) and Cordis (Cordis sponsors at least two teams).

I've had the privilege of working for PRD and I will be working for Cordis this summer. J&J is a fabulous company to work for and I love that it is such a big supporter of FIRST. My supervisor this summer at Cordis was a FIRST mentor and had her medals predominately displayed on her desk. I was so excited to find out that we both shared a passion for FIRST. I hope that if I work for J&J after college, that my company will sponsor a team I can mentor. :)

J&J is also a Founding Sponsor of FIRST

It'd be intresting to compare this year's records of the two sponsor's teams

Remember, its not about competing but it is about working together towards a common goal which is spreading the ideas of FIRST/science/technology. This is something both J&J and BMS teams have in common, the ability to work together(I am not saying other teams don't have the same ability also). Congratulations teams of J&J, BMS, GM, Delphi, NASA etc.etc.(I could be here all night listing sponsors ;) ) for a successful 2006 season. See ya'll next year.

It would be interesting to compare the records (wins+awards) of team sponsors grouped by their industry sector; e.g., medical, automotive, software, electronics, etc. I wonder if there is a trend to be found that would identify one particular sector as more effective in promoting the values of FIRST?

Re: J&J or BMS sponsored teams

I think that Team 56 is still a J&J Team.

For the record Team 341 gets its J & J support from the PRD Division in Springhouse.

mhm, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 56 sponsored by Ethicon (a J&J company)

Re: J&J or BMS sponsored teams

J&J according to their website has 80 different "Children" in their family of websites, but that includes the same name in different countries. So I guess I'll list the J&J teams with their sponsor

#56 - Ethicon
#75 - J&J Consumer
#85 - J&J Nutrition
#86 - Vistakon
#88 - DePuy/Codman
#168 - Cordis
#223 - J&J Gateway/ J&J Healthcare
#224 - Pharmaceutical Sourcing Group - Americas (PSGA)
#341 - J&J Pharmaceutical Research and Development
#433 - McNeil Consumer & Specialty
#486 - McNeil Consumer
#563 - McNeil
#869 - Cordis
#1144 - Ethicon
#1156 - J&J
#1218 - J&J
#1382 - Tribotec
#1860 - J&J
#1872 - Janssen
#1976 - Ethicon

And if you Count the Merck Merger
#1228- Merck

thats a lot, no matter how you cut it

I think there are more, but remember, BMS is a MUCH smaller company than J&J is, let's see how other sponsors compare

Re: J&J or BMS sponsored teams

While sponsorship is important, one of things I feel that is sometimes overlooked is how the sponsors participate and interact with their team. Some teams get technical help from their sponsors, while others just get a check.

For 1089, I am grateful that we have a corporate contact at BMS who actually knows what's going on in our team. He's an incredibly busy man, but he really has put heart set in our program. At the NJ regional, he actually had put his hands in and was working with the students on our robot! At nationals, when I called him from Atlanta to let him know how the BMS teams were doing, he said "So, did you fix that power drainage problem?" -- this man knew what our students were doing, and was genuinely interested in how our team (and the other BMS teams) were doing. It made me proud to know that we have corporate sponsors with genuine interest.

There's so much to say about a sponsor who gets involved and cares about your team over one who just signs a check.

I'm not trying to play the "my sponsor is better than yours" game, by ANY means, but I am just saying that I've come to appreciate that people who work in big business are STILL people who care -- not just about how their money is being spent, but how this program will help benefit the future.

Man, FIRST is amazing :D
