A 648 New Recruit... a very special one.
If you read this article... you'll know why he is a a special recruit of ours.
Bonny Jain is the 2006 National Geography Bee champ. Wow... what an accomplishment, but further yet, he will go on to compete in the Scripts National Spelling Bee next week I think. I met him when we did a presentation at the Moline HS Freshman Orientation about a month ago. He was the last of a bunch of students that signed up for more info. And he was the most interested. I told him and his parents everything I know about FIRST and the team's history and FIRST's history and GP and the foundations of FIRST and on and on. I'm excited about the potential that this kid can bring to FIRST and team 648. Bonny, as an eighth grader, scored a 2310 of a possible 2400 on the SAT! I didn't even take the SAT as a high schooler. I just figured you all would like to know about one of our new recruits. Sorry if this is in the wrong catagory. It's late and I didn't know where else to put it. |

That's crazy! Better make sure you don't pass him up. Get him well integrated! He should be a big help to the team.

I read about him in the newspaper - sounds like Robots might be right up his alley. :) Congratulations on discovering such a successful new student, and on being able to share so much with him.

Re: A 648 New Recruit... a very special one.
He was extremely interested in programing. If we do get him to stay (we have a ton of new students that quit within a couple of meetings) he should be a great asset. I just wish we could find more students like him in the area and give them access to this team.

Re: A 648 New Recruit... a very special one.
Haha, if you switch the middle two digits of his SAT score, you get mine.
Congrats on finding someone so able and interested in FIRST! Any new recruit is an amazing one. ;) |

Re: A 648 New Recruit... a very special one.
I was thinking during work today...
I don't think this is the kind of student I should be bragging about. The ones that I should be bragging about are the ones that, without this team, would have no other way to express themselves in the way that FIRST lets them. IE, mathematically, scientifically, engineering-ly, ect. This kid... he's got the potential to do whatever he wants in life. But many kids, like myself if I hadn't had this team to occupy my time, won't have the chance to become great and lead others unto greatness. |
