Wheels & Gearbox Source

Tonight while doing some research on this Moon Buggy, I found a source of possible interest to FIRST teams or hobbyists.

They have a whole bunch of stuff including wheels, controls, parts, and gearboxes from ride on toys such as Power Wheels.

Wheels

Gearboxes

I have not gone through much of the site yet, but it appears they have a lot of stuff.

Let everyone know if you find anything of interest!

the other gearbox options for the FP motors are nice to know about and i recognize the hub about a third of the way down on the right of the wheel page as well.

Pretty good prices for motors. Nice assortment of molded plastic wonders too :D

Brad nice link man. I like the gearboxes alot gives you some ratios and sizes to play around with. Also saves time from having to make a custom gearbox. I know everyone with shooters that used two fp motors knows what I am talking about .

YEEESSSS! We can finally use pink wheels like we've always wanted to!!! :p

On a serious note, this could be very interesting. Lightweight, molded, lower traction wheels could have plenty of uses on a FIRST bot. And the wide assortment of FP gearboxes could obviously be put to the test.

Who says they have to be low traction?

They would be great for hubs, just rivet, glue, etc, rubber to the outside surface of them.

In our case it would be Gum rubber.

And for those pink wheels....

I think everyone knows which team could use those!

Can't believe you all have never seen that site before. I've known about it for years! Think I even posted it a couple times. Actually, I probably found it from Chief Delphi originally.

Hmmm, good point. So these could actually be low traction or modded to be high traction (low traction does have uses from time to time though).

Those gearboxes look very familiar...

We have about twenty of them in our robot room, many of them are different colors and slightly different designs. This indicates to me that they were likely bought one at a time, or given to us in the KOP.

Were they ever in the KOP?

Just a warning to all of you...

Those gearboxes have the most annoying output shafts ever! Not only are they difficult to modify, but they also brake. Connecting stuff to them isn't easy either...

If you're talking about the white or black ones that are similar in form to the first item on the gearboxes page, then you've uncovered a stash of gearboxes for the Fisher-Price motor, of which two have been included in the kit every year since at least 1999. (Note that the gearboxes differ internally, year-to-year, and the motors themselves also vary widely.)

If you are looking for a sweet little gearbox for the FP, check out banebots.com Search the forums and you'll find a discussion on how to fit your FP to these easy-to-mount, relatively inexpensive ($40) planetary gearboxes. We used the 5:1 on our shooter this year for two regionals with no problems.

Still a cool link, though...
