Paintings of the numbers 1-1000 are being sold here. These have special significance to us FIRST-a-holics, so check it out! (sorry to post-2003 rookies!)

That has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. And what makes me angry is whoever is doing it will probably become filthy rich from it.

I have to agree, the concept is a little silly to me. That said, folks made a guy a millionaire (or darn close to it) buying pixels on a web page. If someone comes up with a creative enough means to get folks to part with their money, more power to 'em.

i tend to agree with him... It's a number, painted. the number.. in blue... probably times new roman. It's not art, it's a number. look what you get for $65 dollars:

so what if it's "one of a kind" go out, buy some paint, and paint your own number. Only, use your team colors, and make it more artistic.

at first, when i saw each number had a wikipedia definition of the number i thought that maybe the painting was a cleaver combination of pictures from all those events that formed the number... but then i saw it's just blue.

don't waste your money on this, go treat a couple friends to a movie or something, it'll bring you a lot more joy than a blue number that anyone can write.

it is very silly. you can do this much cheaper. but someone has a dream and their own artist expression is this. interesting but i don't think many of us would buy this. especially if you look at the price. i looked up 179 (Swampthing :) 180 already taken)
Current Price: $246.30 Value: $821.00 .... i mean...ya.... i think we can do a lot more with that money than a canvas with our number on it. buy a VEX kit, sponsor a LEGO team... much more.... creating a difference in the future generations... well that is priceless...and these are expensive.

Actually, it's another font. The font seen on the artworks is a sans-serif font, meaning they lack the little "feet" seen in a serif font like Times New Roman.

That said, I can say with absolute certainty that whatever font they did use doesn't come with Mac OS X 10.4.6. (Only one of the fonts was a decent match for that somewhat distinctive 1 in the above photo, and none could match the 6.)

Fonts are an interesting thing to play with, especially when you're looking to differentiate your words. While fonts such as Verdana, Arial, and Times New Roman tend to rule the day on the Web, you can really get creative with printed items. Compare, for example, 1293's 2004 t-shirt (seen here) with the team's 2006 shirt. Neither is a bad shirt, but most would agree that the latter is a bit more distinctive. Arial Black (which is the typeface used for the 1293 on the 2004 shirt) is a bit more common than Blade Runner (used for 2006), which would help it to stand out a bit better in a crowd of numbered shirts.

(Granted, uniqueness can also lead to multiple teams using the same font for its uniqueness--I know for a fact that 121 uses the same font on their shirts and robot.)

I wouldn't get too worked up over this. It's easy enough to just say no and if someone chooses to spend your money on this then that is thier business. Better than wasting it on gambling I suppose.
I don't expect it to make millions though.

well, if they sell every one of them at just $50 that is still $50,000.

Why would you be so angry if somebody had come up with a surefire way to make money. If you are going to be angry at someone be angry at the people who are "wasting" thier money.

i was looking at their price scheme and the value=1000-number so is the number 1000 free??? and why are higher numbers still cheaper???whats so special about the low numbers?? AND DUE TO THE EXTREMELY HIGH DEMAND IT MAY TAKE WEEKS BEFORE YOU R PAINTING IS READY TO SHIP. what is so special that it takes weeks????i could print these all off with my printer in a matter of days...if that

When I was a kid, I remember telling my dad that I had a Beanie Baby worth $400.

He said, "No, you don't."

I told him, "But the Beanie Baby Buying Guide says it's worth $400!"

He said, "I'll give you $5 for it."

I said, "But it's worth $400."

"That's where you're wrong," he said. "It's only worth what someone will pay for it."

I thought it was dumb at the time, but it was a good lesson. The painting is only worth $821, if you can find someone who will pay that much for it!
