I hope that some time in the near future I'll be able to go again! If any teams get the opportunity to go they should not let it pass them by, they will really regret it.

Yes, teams will continue growing, specially with a Regional Event in our country, cutting expenses with visas, air tickets, lodging, etc, witch can reach up to 2,000 dollars per student.

In 2005 we had a list of 25 High Schools willing to commit with FIRST Robotics Program, but only 3 actually participated and continue with FRC (#1603, #1621 and #1628).

With the confirmation of our Regional Event for March, not only this 25 HS will be able to participate in FIRST Robotics, but all other High Schools gathered in Globaltech 2006 Science and Innovation Fair and other exhibitions that will take place in the following months (3 at least).

At the worst scenario, 15 more teams at least. Companies such as Johnson & Johnson and lots of others are awakening to FIRST in Brazil. Several have already committed to support FIRST during our meetings in the past two weeks.

Team #269, from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, almost joined us this year, but due to time problems (visas and so on) they couldn't come. BUT they already expressed their intention of exchanging the nationals for Brazil next year. <rumor> Several other teams also showed interest of doing so </rumor>.

I'm working in the BRFIRST.ORG website and you should find updated news and pictures by any moment. (www.brfirst.org/en and http://www.brfirst.org/galeria/thumbnails.php?album=10 for pictures)

Re: Brazil Regional

Non-American regional #4. Non-North American Regional #2
Hopefully this is only one step in the continued growth of Brazil in FIRST. In 2005, there were only 12 Israeli team, this year it more than doubled to 26. Seeing as Brazil already has 5 teams, including a 2 time Regional Champion and Regional Chairman's Award winner in 383, and 25 interested highschools, there is huge potential for growth. (Note that, EVERY, I mean EVERY, Brazilian team has won at least 1 award, even the two rookies. 383 isn't the only Brazilian team who has sucess, I just remember them from when they attended the VCU regional. :p )

Re: Brazil Regional

That is great news. I hope FIRST continues to become a truly international competition with more regionals added in other countries.

Next year we will be adding at least 10 new Israeli teams for a total of 36. Triple the amount of teams that started.

Even 36 Israeli teams is nothing. In Israel there are probably more then 50 high schools that participate in the Fire Fighting Robot Contest and Robocup. Except those there are probably a few more dozens of schools that have technical or computer science majors, and have the tools and resources to compete in FIRST. I believe the main thing that will stop the expanding of FIRST in Israel is $$$. There is a limit to how many Israeli companies can give 10,000$ sponsorships to teams.

It's great to know that Israel is getting a really big progress...
As Joe saids, team #269 couldn't make it because they had time problems... So,we would like to know if teams would intend to come to Brazil, so we could help them as fast as we can...

So let's work together so we can bring as many american team as we can, if anyone needs any help, plz post here or PM me...

Re: Brazil Regional

And when you start thinking: "I would like to go to the Brazilian regional" it is important to remember that it is NOT as difficult as most of us imagine. :yikes:

There are several airlines flying very often to Brazil with very good prices. Food and lodging won't be a problem. Remember, 1 dollar = +-2,4 reais. The efforts down here are amazing and it would be awesome to have a little international help on this. 75 and 555 were here last year and I'm sure they had a great time! :D

? Exactly where will this event take place?

I would like to go to a Brazilian regional Tchescow!! Plus I need more Tchescow shirts for my collection and I need to give you 555 shirts! I doubt I'd be able to work next year's regional into my school schedule (though you never know) but hopefully some time in the near future. :)

Would be at Porto Alegre, in the south of Brazil...

The exact location of the arena, i guess, would be announced in a few weeks...

;)

Re: Brazil Regional

This sounds like it would be a really fun event. Would teams that attend Nats. have potential problems getting their robot back in time though, since there have been a few delays mentioned in getting robots through customs here?

Maybe if we have the money...

ChucKZiM 01-06-2006 14:44

Re: Brazil Regional

I was talking to the staff of Globaltech and they told to me that, in MAXIMUM prize, the robots get in USA in 15 days... As an example, the eletronics kit of the arena that was in Globaltech has been packed and sent to crate at this monday is arriving in NY at next week, probally monday too... So it would give plenty of time to the bot arrive at Nats, so would be possible that a team participate at brazilian regional and Nats too...

Some pic's at Globaltech

The arena and the big crowd around

and Mr. John Park, senior mentor at FIRST getting into the brazilian style and also controlling the arena

Anyone notice how exhausted John Park looks? Probably too much barbecue..

Actually his was a little sick... we had a lot of work, no rest at all, plus barbecue everyday... a deadly combination.

Oh I would loveee to go to Brazil for a regional *gushes*

I've always told myself never rule anything completely out of the picture. If not next year...maybe another :D .

BTW I would like to congratulate all the Brazil teams that were at Jersey Regional (I know this is a little late), but I was SO proud of all three teams for doing so well. I remember the first Brazilian team to ever come to New Jersey and boy has it grown since then. 1156 you guys had a great bot this year and played/worked well on the field...you guys should be so proud!!

It would be great to have you guys here again! Plus, I have several Tchescow shirts here, the thing is, you'll have to come down and get them! :D There is barbecue and tons of guaraná waiting also!

Come on guys, the Brazilian Regional is waiting for you! :)

Don't forget about the Pizza "All you can eat"! :D

Re: Brazil Regional

I highly recommend going to Brazil it was sooo much fun last year, and it's not as far out of reach as some of you think. At regionals last year I had no idea I would be going to Brazil, and then in May, there I was at Globaltech with our robot! It was really a great experience. If I didn't have to go to college  ... let me rephrase that... if I didn't have classes that week... I would definitely go to a Brazilian regional!

Barth 02-06-2006 13:55

Re: Brazil Regional

We are very happy and proud in have a brazilian regional next year. We invite all teams to participate at the brazilian regional. If anyone have any kind of question, or want to know a little more about Brazil, please post here that we will be pleased to help. Having the opportunity of meeting a new country will become your FIRST experience so much fun! Think on that :)

Id definately like to go, but to get my team to go is another thing. Its been hard enough to get them to go to another regional in the US let alone another country.....oh well, maybe one of these days 8-)

Re: Brazil Regional

We thought like that! This is the challenge, make exactly what you think impossible! We'll be waiting for you here at São Paulo too!
The Brazilian's regional will create a lot of new teams here... I just can't wait for it!
Thanks everybody who believes in this idea! This is my last year as student, and it's gonna be special!
Bye =P
:yikes: :D ;) :D :yikes:

Re: Brazil Regional

And we also can help you guys in some tips to make a little tour to Brazil, if you come all the way down here why don't spend some days at Rio or any of the beaches that have over here...

But mainly, lets bring one piece of US here to Brazil and make a huge competition ;)

Doliver 09-06-2006 23:29

Re: Brazil Regional

I'm sure that all the eventual efforts that you may spend are gonna be worth!

I'm looking forward to the official announcement and the regional event itself! Joining it will be great!

Besides allowing the increase of FIRST participating brazilian teams, this regional event will surely be unforgettable not only for us but also every foreign team that might come!!!!!

I hope to see ya guys here, hanging out and competiting along us!
