Best Belt System

We are looking to redo our belt system that collects and moves balls throughout our robot as a training exercise for our younger students and to prepare for IRI. I was wondering what belt systems you have found to work best? I was quite impressed with the nylon or material that 703 used and if anyone knows the name of that material that would be great. Thanks for the help!

You can get "non-slip" matting that is used in kitchen cabinets and etc. This product is very inexpensive and available in rolls, and can be sewn together to form a "belt". Examples of this are the 2002 robot of team 121, and the 2006 robot of 131.

You could always play with polycord. Gotta love that stuff. Polycord, pvc and conduit it what we used. You could try using the fatty cim with the timing belt to power all of it. A good 3-1 or 4-1 reduction would serve you well too. Shouldn't cost you too much. Most expensive is that polycord.

Thanks guys! Does the cabinet material rip easily if it hits a snag under normal wear and tear on a robot? We are thinking about PVC as our rollers, any other suggestions?

The cabinet liner doesnt rip very much. The key is making to parralel cuts and seeming it together nicely. Then it will be great. You might want to line the conveyor with pvc roller reinforcements.

with the cabinet liner if you put it in a pillow case then iron the $@$# out of it. it wont stretch or break as easy.
