Post your REAL desktop

Perhaps in the past there have been topics about what peoples desktops look like and I look through these on other forums and they bore the crud out of me. Frankly I don't care what your icons look like or what your background is, what I want to know is what your work station looks like, if you only work on a laptop post a picture of your lap and the area where you usually work. As for desktop users I want to see the kind of environment you work in, very clean, mirror finish wood/metal desk, monitor has no finger marks, chair is stiff, or very relaxed, papers around you, desk has a few layers of dust on it, your monitor is covered in smudges.
Just post a picture of your workstation.

To start this off I will post a pic of mine.
My desktop
Pretty messy, crumpled up pieces of paper around, dust, monitor smudges, very comfortable reclining chair, also as for the time this pic was taken this is very clean for me, normally cereal bowls and cups would be scattered around my desk.

Please do not use this as a place to post the stats of your computer, of your monitor is fine, but not your comp, please.

But other than that, just remember to please link your images, rather than img tagging them, thank you.

Re: Post your REAL desktop

My desk I seem a little scatterbrained for a girl who's locker wins the award for most sanitary in our high school. Have to have my green tea and supply of junk food/candy. You could see some pop rocks at the bottom right corner. Haha. And the uber old dry-erase board at the back that my cousin's use to outrank each other. It's a little messy but it's intimate and comfy. Nice place to work.

Glad I've never been to your house, Morgan.

Re: Post your REAL desktop

Here's mine... at least while I'm home for the summer. In Kingston (where I go to school) I've got significantly more desk space.

The desktop:
IBM PIII 866 Mhz (with an 80 GB hard drive, 512 mb of RAM and two monitors) -- it runs SUSE Linux

The laptop:
Apple iBook G4 12" 1.2 GHz (with a 30 GB hard drive, 512 MB of RAM)
-- it runs OS X

The miscellaneous:

Spindle of DVDs
Fax machine (it's mom's, when I'm away she uses this room as an office)
HP Printer
Speakers
KVM switch hooked up to one of the two monitors (so I can plugin a laptop or another computer and switch displays easily)
External DVD burner
Laptop bag
Monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?)
Queen's Computing jacket :-)

As for Joe Matt: the FIRST sticker is nice. Is that what you meant?

My messy desktop:

From Left: IBM Thinkpad, mousepad, 2 OLD (I did capitalize bold did I not, you wouldn't want them trust me) laptops. Background: wood wall paneling, magazines, notes, magic cards (hidden behind thinkpad). All of this on what is described as a card playing table made into a desk. I love it.

It usually looks like this...but sometimes it gets a little messier with papers and food.

(I know the desktop looks empty...but once you press start almost both screens get filled up.)

A very similar thing used to happen to me, so one day I spend about an hour organizing every program into categories, and sub categories, even some had groups within sub categories. It is very clean now, wish I could say the same about my room. As for my desktop I have no shortcuts, I just feel they get in the way.
Thank you everyone so far for posting your desktop pics!

Heh, my desktop (computer) has 0 icons and the start bar auto-hides on the left. I love the start configuration, instead of the bar getting too full of programs to see whats what, I can open, by my calculations, about 34 windows, and still take in what they all are at a glance. The auto-hide is to increase my viewable area, and I like a clean looking desktop screen.

So I've recently adapted to a "desk" space, which is actually just my dinning room table. (my parents were to happy with the heat marks I get from my laptop when it's on my legs so they made me move, I also find it easy to type this way now...we'll see if i go back.)

Here's the set up now. Complete with a can of vault, and the 2006 "website award scoring sheet" as a constant reminder that I'm actually trying to finish my teams website (the application on the screen = syn text editor, I was actually working on the website :ahh: well actually, I've been working on it for almost 5 days!)

Re: Post your REAL desktop

Sorry to steal your thunder Lavery and Fimmel but after amazing donations I have upgraded my computer to run with 4 monitors, yes 4! While they arn't great ones minus the one all the way to the left they work. Now on the one on the left, it is an 18 inch flat touch screen!, while I have yet installed what I need to run anything using the touch screen capabilities it still functions as an amazing monitor.
It is so cool, yet stretching things across all 4 looks rather awkward.
EDIT: OK the touch monitor isn't mine, sigh... It's the teams. It came with a beastly server we were donated and at the moment it is sitting at my house because we need to concentrate on finals rather than getting the server working. So until finals are over the touch monitor will act as a 4th monitor. Yet when I play Oblivion it becomes my main monitor, I roll my chair over put the keyboard on my lap and pull out the drawer further so I reach the mouse.

Yes, windows media player does now allow you to stretch videos across monitors, yet quick time does, at least for me. Beyond that I haven't tested it with other program.s

Nice setup ^ 4 monitors are hard to deal with but very useful.

My computers power supply got fried, so until the new heavier duty one comes in I am forced to run on a crap HP or an even crappier DELL. Hopefully it is only the power supply that fried.

Re: Post your REAL desktop

Here's mine...

Yes, that is a wired router, it's sad, I know, but it works well.
And the giant printer/scanner/copier to the left of my desk is hooked up to the computer in the background.
My monitor is a 17" (hp vs17), LCD, with built in stereo speakers.
And when I got the desk, there was originally a shelf, but it was too low for the comp to fit under/above, so I custom built the drawer that's there now. [It basically just has all my junk in it - unread manuals, mousepads, a spindle of cd-r discs, new unused ethernet cable, camera, and whatever else I throw in there.]
There really isn't enough desk space to actually do school work, etc., so I tend to end up doing it on the couch in the background. :D

In my basement are two more PCs (one running Windows 2000, the other XP Home), and a G4 Tower running Mac OS 10.3.

And yes, that really is an AndyMark single-speed tranny on my desk! ;)

The pictures are about a year old. I'm not sure why the old white CRT is in one of the pictures. It was replaced with a black LCD. My desktop is surprisingly clean in these pictures.

The new Camaro is HOT! With the Dodge Challenger final design coming out in just about 6 months and the Camaro following and then the Chevelle in 2011, I just cant wait. Now I am torn as to if I should buy a '69 Camaro and clean it up or if I like the new one more. The New Camaro is going to be expensive for me though, but the Dodge Challenger will be less expensive.

You should really give it some deep thought and make the decision for yourself.

"Cough Cough Get the new Camaro!"

Here's my work arrangement from school:

The MacBook Pro I work on occasionally on the left leg, my own iBook G4 (which I'm about to list on eBay, actually) on the right leg.

Life is good.

Just cleaned my desk today, figured I should post it while it is still in this condition.;)

Mac mini 1.83 core duo, 2gb ram W/ 22" acer lcd
PowerMac G4 533MHZ dual processors, 1.25gb ram, ati 9800pro
Acer laptop 1.8ghz turion 64, 1gb ram

The Laptop and mini are connected Via synergy. The G4 and Mini are connected though Gigabit Ethernet and use Qmaster to offload rendering in final cut pro and motion, it also functions as NAS.

New screensaver from an band called The Nice from their album Elegy. I never have heard or owned the album but I had seen the image before and I really love it. It's created by a studio called Hipgnosis who are mostly known for thier iconic album covers for Pink Floyd including the ledgendary Dark Side of the Moon.
