Flock - the web browser

I'm using the 0.7 Beta of Flock, and I am pretty much completely wowed. It is pretty much the most amazing RSS reader I've used yet, and it integrates seemlessly with Flickr and del.icio.us and many blogging APIs. I highly recommend you give it a look if you're into the more interactive side of the internet. I love it, and it's not even released yet.

Flock has actually been out for awhile, I have been using it since fall of last year as a backup web broswer. Its intergration of many services is a really nice thing. I really live the idea of online bookmarks, it makes working from other computer much easier. Even though flock is coming on quite strong, it is still buggy and in beta. I continue to use firefox and opera when I have a choice.

Ah but Teddles, that is why this version of Flock is so amazing. The 0.4 alpha they released last year was so amazingly poor I used it once and then couldn't bring myself to launch it again. This 0.7 beta is much more stable and useful, and I am being drawn to it as a primary browser for certain tasks.

Flock = read rss/blogs, do flickr & bookmarking, blog.
Firefox = do research and heavy internet lifting.

This is true Greggles (lol), and I am going to test out this beta as soon as I finish my homework tonight. Though most of my internet use if for research and mass file downloads, firefox seems to be the best to use for now. As with RSS, i really like how flock has done it, but it looks like the Windows Vista beta 2 RSS gadget might be able to feed that information the easiest now. I will edit later and post about this new release when I get to use it later tonight/morning.

I was disappointed with the 0.4 alpha (heard about it in a pod cast) so I stopped looking at it for a while. I'm gonna try the 0.7 beta just because Ive seen it here on ChiefDelphi. Hope I'm not disappointed.

It's a great idea, and I may use at some point. However, it's support of my blog had problems, and it doesn't support zooomr yet.

I would, however, recomend trying it.

I'll wait for a non beta version and let you know how that goes.

I actually like this browser, it has all the right plugins, though the blogging doesn't always work completely (when submitting a post to a WordPress blog, it hangs at the data submission process and doesn't say when its completed).

Pros:
  • Based on Firefox
  • Great photo feed support from Photobucket and Flickr
  • Built-in Blogging Support (Right click an image, link, or page and hit "Blog This")
  • Nearly all Firefox plugins work and Flock has released a converter for them
  • Built-in RSS Reader
Cons:
  • No built in support for Google Video, YouTube, Photobucket Video, etc.
  • A lot of Yahoo stuff is tied to it, sometimes without the ability to change the setting (I prefer Google over Yahoo for searching)
  • One word: Beta

Overall, its a really great browser with some pretty cool features that build upon Firefox's familiar interface and code compliancy. I'll still use it during the beta phases since its got some features that I wish I had back with Firefox.

I was referring to how the Flock start page, while it looked good, was tied into Yahoo, and that couldn't be changed.

I downloaded it last night and i rather like it. With some of the extensions, it actually became easier for me. I find it almost as good as Firefox, but I do enjoy it.
