FIRSTcast needs a new host!

FIRSTcast is looking for a new host!

That’s right folks, get your radio voices ready! If you want to be considered as the next member of the FIRSTcast family, here are the rules:

• The cumulative post count of all four nominating users must meet or exceed 300 posts.
• Nominated contestants must be over the age of 16.
• Nominated contestants must have decent microphone equipment and broadband internet.
• Nominated contestants must also have Skype (www.skype.com) and be able to install and configure Audacity and Ventrilo for future recording sessions.
• If you are nominated and accepted as a contestant, you must submit to a 2 minute online Skype interview. Contestants will be run through a recorded “dry run” episode to test their ability.

We look forward to hearing from you! We’re only taking the first five nominations so hurry up and get your nominations in.

Happy ‘casting!

I've been asking about this since the inception of FIRSTcast, but I don't think I would get nominated for it. I am currently trying to put 3 podcasts together (not FIRST-related), but I'm having a hard time finding co-hosts that have time to record podcasts.

Anyhow...

If I would get nominated I would love to be a host.

EDIT: I JUST REREAD THE REQUIREMENTS AND UNFORTUNATELY I DON'T FULFILL THE AGE REQUIREMENTS. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE AGE REQUIREMENT?

I have a decent Microphone, a Great Internet, A good voice and ideas.

However, I don't know where Audacity and Ventrilo are, but I'll look into it. I'm downloading Skype as I type.

All I need are people to Nom me, but I don't know many people around here....Any good people out there?

4 nominations, that seems very crazy. I think 2 is sufficient enough.

2 isn't enough. You could just get two of your friends to do it. So it's not really what people want. If people really wanted to hear you; they'd try and get you nominated.

Pardon my intrusion, but I'm not so sure this is an effective method to pick a new host.

I can think of a large number of people who would make excellent FIRSTcast hosts, but would be a waste of a nomination as they are either uninterested or far too busy to do so. You might quickly fill out your five nomination spaces with people who don't want the position, and it would waste time to ask each candidate as they are nominated whether or not they are interested.

On the other side of the coin, there are also a fair number of people who would make equally good hosts, and would be interested in the position (but not to the point of shameless self-promotion), but who the average CDer wouldn't think of off the top of their head.

I think you need to find some way to identify those who would be interested before they can be nominated.

Go a bit easy on picking another host. I like Pat's idea. Also, it would be nice if you didn't restrict people under 16 to not to be nominated. Just because you are 16 and older doesn't mean you are good at it. I have seen way younger kids than me who knows a lot more than I do. Let's give an example... Matt... I am not sure how old he is, but he is younger than me. He got together with Adam, Joe, and Jeff and put FIRSTcast together. I know I wouldn't come up with that idea and actually try to accomplish something like this, when others have their own schedule and I have my own.

Why don't you guys (FIRSTcast) pick out people, and interview them? I can understand it if you say you guys are trying to see public's interest, but that can be solved. Pick some people, post here saying... these are the nominations for your new host. Have public send you email with their votes.

As far as Freddy's post is concerned, if you can get 2 of your friends to nomianate you, I think you can get 2 more friends to nominate you for the position.

Michelle... earlier you said "It's not what people want." How do you know what we want? We weren't told until today in the morning that you guys are picking another host. We (public) didn't get to input our opinions for picking hosts.

With that said, I apologize if I have said something that I shouldn't have.

Good luck with picking a new host and I can't wait to hear the new voice.

Meh I meant like just because two people like something doesn't mean it's right for everyone. I mean me, myself am interested in doing it and I'm all for the four noms. because of that.

Well I was reading this thread and came up with an idea which may give you what you want for the peoples view. It is similar to what others have said but this is CD so why not throw it out there.

1) I think people should nominate themselves that way you only get people who want and are willing to do it.

2) When people nominate themselves they must provide 4 references from people who are not on their team. This gets rid of the "best friend" issue, especially with 4 people required

3) narrow the field down to 5 (it could be the first 5 people who do this if you want)

4) Have a recording session giving each person 2-5 mins to strut their stuff.

5)edit that all into one edition and publish it.

6)Then have a voting thread where your listeners vote on who they like the best.

7)welcome the winner as the new host

As far as I can tell that process would take care of alot of people's concerns, while opening the opportunity and giving you public opinion of the new host making them the voice of FIRST cast fans.

I really like this idea! You seem to have gotten rid of all the concerns mention. And it also gives us, the listeners, a chance to give our opinions who's the best.

I definitely think this is the way to go. :)

Re: FIRSTcast needs a new host!

I think I also agree with Greg's post, although I think it could be simplified a bit.

This position should be treated as if it were a job opening at a company. People interested in hosting should send in a "resume" which explains why they are interested in the job and why they should have the job. Then, Matt, perhaps you can interview these people by phone so that you can hear their voice and how well they verbally present themselves (because this is an important job qualification). After doing this, you select the best person for the job.

I don't think I need to reiterate what other people have already said, but this approach would certainly alleviate some of our concerns.

Re: FIRSTcast needs a new host!

Alright everyone,

This has been an interesting run, this idea was conceived by Adam and I a few days ago as part of a longer term plan, obviously we missed a few issues. As such we're going to close up on this for a while, and consider alternative solutions, such as a Greg's, or Jaine's version of Greg's. You'll be hearing back from us soon hopefully, after I get to conference with the rest of the team.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
