Ew! All these spiders and other fun sorts of bugs...It's reminding me of that one scene in King Kong. :o

Re: Ew, Spiders!

We always end up with various spiders in our house, and in many bug induced panics, I've found that almost anything can kill them. Hair spray can work very well, it makes their legs stick to one another or to their bodies.

Every summer we have a continued battle with wasps. We've already had 6 of these things get inside already this year. I'm allergic to bees and wasps, so they really freak me out. If Eric is home, he'll just give it one quick spray and watch it crawl around until it falls over (usually about 3 minutes). Me, I spray it until it stops moving and then some!

Okay, this thread has really made my skin feel all creepy crawly, so I think I'm going to take a two hour shower now.

Maybe I'm one of the few who really doesn't mind spiders lol
My friend was over the other night and came screaming and running out of my bathroom because there were four spiders in there  more or less, hilarious
Last week my friend almost crashed us in her car because a spider was in there - also, very funny (minus the almost crashing)
I found this one in my garden last year. You can't really tell from the picture, but the web was about six feet in every direction and the spider was pretty large himself.

I'm sad I never got any good pictures of these wolf spiders (I think...) that visit my house every year or when I went into my basement and found a few hatching (by few I mean thousands).
One other of my friends doesn't mind spiders either - in fact she caught one and kept it as a pet for a while

I know that there are a bunch of spiders in my basement, but they generally stay there and don't really bother us. We've had the most problems with termites. Those things are beastly.

Also, every year, we seem to have at least one infestation of ants.

Well, thanks to Steve's adventure I have been singing
some of the lyrics from Jim Stafford's, Spiders and Snakes, since 5 a.m.:

...I got silly and I found a frog
in the water by a hollow log
and I shook it at her
And I said, "this frog's for you."
She said,
"I don't like spiders and snakes
and that ain't what it takes
to love me
you fool, you fool -
I don't like spiders and snakes
and that ain't what it takes
to love me
like I want to be loved by you-ooo."

We have now been taken over by carpenter (?) ants about 1/4" long. We've managed to keep them at a minimum compared to previous years. But they are much bigger. I squish about 20 of them a day. I have to vacuum a couple of times a day or it starts looking like our beige carpet is peppered.

I think Wayne wanted to talk scorpions -
We have those. The ones I know about are little about 3 inches long or so...
When we first moved to Austin, we lived out in the country in an old, very old, historical home. It had a 2nd story porch across that front that I kept high back rocking chairs on and two barn owls would roost on the arms of the rockers and keep me company through our bedroom window. One morning I got up and went into our bathroom and was greeted by a scorpion. I was not happy. I didn't smack it but the sound of a 'flush' occurred shortly after the discovery.

In Michigan's UP, we have brown recluse, black widow, and wolf spiders. I've seen a wolf spider here, once, and one time back home in Appleton, WI. *shudder* :(

We've got them down here too (Michigan's LP) but they're just not as common

When I was maybe 5 or 6... my parents took me back to my homeland (Chattanooga, Tennessee). We went up into the mountains and caught scorpions and other stuff. That's my scorpion experience.

:( ::sigh:: :(

I think this is only the second thread to ever have the potential to give me nightmares here on CD.. :ahh:

It comes in a very close second to the thread about Dave's legs. :p

I don't really mind bugs that much, as long as they aren't too big or are congergating in gigantic qualtities. Then again I work a full-time summer job doing all kinds of outside work like landscaping and mantainence work, and the bugs no longer phase me. Or poison ivy. Or snakes. Or wild critters (like skunks or foxes). Unless you harass animals or make them feel threatened, they won't usually bother you.

As for getting rid of bugs in a house, my favorite method of exterminating 'em just grabbing the nearest object and squashing them. Books, magazines, newspapers, shoes, or free AOL CDs all work good for this. (I had to find something to do with all those free AOL disks...) ;)

Re: Ew, Spiders!

I love spiders. But you know what I hate?

Spider webs. They scare the living daylights out of me - imagine being suffocated in one! I'm not sure what the phobia is for that, but when I'm around spider webs, I get totally freaked out and hate it.

Another thing that this thread makes me think of is those egyptian beetles that get under your skin and go for the brain, like in Indiana Jones or whatever...*SHUDDER*
