This is an old thread, granted, but the topic is pertinent to this post.

Personally, I don't see what the problem is. The more spiders you have around the house, the less insects you have.

actually there are a few species of social spiders. I know of a South American tarantula that lives in colonies.
The size of this colony is what is pretty amazing. I can picture a single female carrying an egg capsule with hundreds of babies on the tree and all of them surviving to give that huge web, or maybe several generations doing it. It is known that in ecosystems where birds have been eliminated the spiders seem to flourish (Guam). Maybe this is a wakeup call to take a closer look at the ecosystem in that part of Texas Still pretty neat. And no sign of Toby Mcguire (sp)? WC |
