maybe if i brought the hose inside..... |
Re: HELP!!!
lol well you could make a really big sticky sheet out of duct tape and squish them with it... that should do it!
yes, duct tape solves everything |
Re: HELP!!!
Are you living in some military barracks or something, or a dirt floor basement??? No door?? LOL
Find an all night store, and get chemicals ASAP!!!!! |
Re: HELP!!!
911 RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!! :)
well, may be its time for you to be Spider-Man. Either yell out MOMMY or grab an insecticide and spray it on the spiders. Another good way would be to reach out for your vex kit and make a spider-killing bot............ (what would you expect when you ask these kinds of questions on CD :p ) |

spiders like vibrations..... get a sub and put a low frequency through it so its not barely noticable hummm maybe the spiders will congregate towards it haha then big booot or flamethrower lol

Re: HELP!!!
yea...get pesticide...soon, I'm sure there are convenience stores open in your area.
umm don't try any of those "make your own pesticide" things you find on the web and stay away from the spiders...one bite may cause a small amount of irritation if any...but a large amount...could send you to the ICU and or ER for a very long time...if you cant get any pesticides...get far away from the room until morning. Good Luck :yikes: |
Re: HELP!!!
Be glad it's not one of these:
![]() ... other than that, I can't offer much consolation. If I were in your position, I would be running out the door and finding a different place to sleep! |
Re: HELP!!!
yay for scary pictures! omg adblockin that! ahahah
|
Re: HELP!!!
Ever see Arachnophobia? ;)
Kidding, kidding. I'd go sleep somewhere else. Find a comfy couch for the night, call an exterminator in the morning. |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
Do it the good ol' American way and throw money at the problem. In other words, get out of there and call a professional to take care of it.
If you don't want to do that, perhaps WD-40? It is good for all sorts of things... |

Re: Ew, Spiders!
Unless you have food or something else up in the attic area to draw them the only thing I can think of is they're coming inside due to all the rain we've had lately. Even the bugs get tired of being wet. If you find where they're coming in or at least a path that they're using then the cleaner should help bring them under control. If you still see them after a few days then there's a hidden breeding ground somewhere.

Re: Ew, Spiders!
Did it look something like this?
|
Re: Ew, Spiders!
^those are daddy longlegs. They just provide the creep effect but won't hurt you - but you said 'little' spiders.
I think with an infestation, you should probably call someone - - be careful how many things you decide to spray in that closed in area, you could end up poisoning your self. Jane |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
Just be happy you don't have camel spiders. Now those things are beasts, can move 10mph, no venom but rely on stealth, speed, and their powerful jaws to get their prey. But how can they rely on stealth when they look like this, is beyond me.

Re: Ew, Spiders!
That was one of the myths
Myth 1: "Camel spiders can grow to be as large as dinner plates. " Myth 2: "Camel spiders can traverse desert sand at speeds up to 25 MPH, making screaming noises as they run." Myth 3: "Camel spiders can jump several feet in the air. " Myth 4: "Camel spiders eat the stomachs of camels and lay their eggs there, hence the name "camel spider." (Legend includes the detail that camel spiders eat camel stomachs from either the outside in or the inside out. In the former case they supposedly jump up from the ground and grab onto camels' bellies from underneath; in the latter case exactly how spiders allegedly as large as dinner plates get into camels' stomachs intact remains unexplained.) " Myth 5: "Camel spiders are venomous, and their venom contains a powerful anesthetic that numbs their victims (thus allowing them to gnaw away at living, immobilized animals without being noticed). U.S. soldiers were said to have been attacked by camel spiders at night but remained completely unaware of their plight until they awakened in the morning to find chunks of their flesh missing. " All fortunately are false, they were named camel spiders because they are found in the desert. They can have a 5"-6" leg span, make no noise, no venom. Also no jumping, but it is still a fierce creature. |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
Oddly enough, this movie was on late 2 nights ago... I think on TNT. Maybe the spiders are starting an invasion.

Not destroy breakfast, just make what your eating, what their eating. They know you wont stop em unless you have a firring weapon.

Re: Ew, Spiders!
My house is infested with these extremely creepy spiders.
![]() They crawl out of every possible nook and cranny. The other day I had one on my desk next to my elbow and I cushed it with my big book. There was probably nearly 100 pounds of force or so crushing it. The splatter went 3 inches every way. I cleaned up the mess with my sister's work shirt. Heh... |

You think your house is infested?

Here in Central Texas, we have a 'wolf spider' that lives in nooks and crannies of the house. I might add - outside - They are good spiders - their food of choice is mosquitoes so they are natural pest eaters. This thing looks sort of like a cross between a wolf spider and a tarantula. Now there's a lovely thought. |

EDIT/ Sorry Jane, I don't know what kind it is. We have wolf spiders here. They range in ever size immaginable. Here in Coal Valley we also have Brown Recluse spiders. Those are extremely dangerous. A couple of years ago a lady was bitten on the leg and within minutes or hours the skin around her leg was rotting away. She had to have it amputated. The was one in my sleeping bag when I went camping once, I was extremely lucky that it didn't bite me and, of course, I crushed it with my foot. Brown Recluse Bite Cause of Nightmares |

M- those arent real spiders. They are called solfugids- sun scorpions. BTW- we have them in the Southwest- just not so huge. Thye are basically harmless to humans. WC |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
I knew they were not actual spiders, yet I couldn't find their actual name, they just got the name Camel Spider from people. The only reason to fear one is just because its a big stinking spider! They don't attack humans, but what your should truly fear is African ants, they eat more accumulative animal flesh than lion or tigers.
The Siafu ants do not care about your size, they are the only recorded insects that eat humans. Granted they eat infants or the infirm but that is still a very scary thought. :ahh:The saifu ants with colonies up to 22 million recorded individuals, use the larger ants with the pincers to break open their victims flesh then the smaller ones get inside and eat it from the inside out. :ahh: |

That looks like a jumping spider (Phidippus sp. ?) . They are amazing little spiders that are very vision oriented and dance and signal to each other with their front legs. All true spiders have fangs with venom glands. But few can bite and penetrate the skin. The ones that do generally sting like a wasp does. But a few (even small ones) inject a venom that liquifies flesh and makes growing necrotic wounds. Supposedly sleeping people swallow 10-15 small spiders during their lifetime. From personal experience I say they are a little crunchy and taste peppery.... BTW- the spider above with the hand for scale is an "Argiope" (silk spider)- Some like that really common in the US in fields. The tropical one in my attachment is 3x the size and I found it by walking into it at face level on a trail in Brazil. Spiders- you gotta love em' WC  |

But the local people in Central America dont worry about them as much as they do Paraponera ants. You can look out for the swarm and avoid it. But Paraponera ants are all over the vegetation and they fall on you. They are 1 inch long and have a sting that is said to feel like being shot with a .22 . They call them Bullet Ants. The pain is excruciating and can cause temporary paralysis. I remember walking a trail in Costa Rica where the guide showed us a hollow tree with the ants coming out of it. He tapped the trunk and you could hear the thing humming with ants- which came boiling out!!! For those in the south= picture Fire Ants an inch long. They hurt briefly and itch later. Bullet ants dont stop the initial hurt for at least a day. WC  (lets talk scorpions next!!) |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
Now would be a very good time to wake up(if you already haven't) and call the orkin man or any other exterminator...at least they weren't mosquitoes :p

Ew! All these spiders and other fun sorts of bugs...It's reminding me of that one scene in King Kong. :o |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
We always end up with various spiders in our house, and in many bug induced panics, I've found that almost anything can kill them. Hair spray can work very well, it makes their legs stick to one another or to their bodies.
Every summer we have a continued battle with wasps. We've already had 6 of these things get inside already this year. I'm allergic to bees and wasps, so they really freak me out. If Eric is home, he'll just give it one quick spray and watch it crawl around until it falls over (usually about 3 minutes). Me, I spray it until it stops moving and then some! Okay, this thread has really made my skin feel all creepy crawly, so I think I'm going to take a two hour shower now. Heidi |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
Maybe I'm one of the few who really doesn't mind spiders lol
My friend was over the other night and came screaming and running out of my bathroom because there were four spiders in there  more or less, hilarious Last week my friend almost crashed us in her car because a spider was in there - also, very funny (minus the almost crashing) I found this one in my garden last year. You can't really tell from the picture, but the web was about six feet in every direction and the spider was pretty large himself. ![]() I'm sad I never got any good pictures of these wolf spiders (I think...) that visit my house every year or when I went into my basement and found a few hatching (by few I mean thousands). One other of my friends doesn't mind spiders either - in fact she caught one and kept it as a pet for a while |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
I know that there are a bunch of spiders in my basement, but they generally stay there and don't really bother us. We've had the most problems with termites. Those things are beastly.
Also, every year, we seem to have at least one infestation of ants. |

I think Wayne wanted to talk scorpions -
We have those. The ones I know about are little about 3 inches long or so... When we first moved to Austin, we lived out in the country in an old, very old, historical home. It had a 2nd story porch across that front that I kept high back rocking chairs on and two barn owls would roost on the arms of the rockers and keep me company through our bedroom window. One morning I got up and went into our bathroom and was greeted by a scorpion. I was not happy. I didn't smack it but the sound of a 'flush' occurred shortly after the discovery. |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
In Michigan's UP, we have brown recluse, black widow, and wolf spiders. I've seen a wolf spider here, once, and one time back home in Appleton, WI. *shudder* :(

As for getting rid of bugs in a house, my favorite method of exterminating 'em just grabbing the nearest object and squashing them. Books, magazines, newspapers, shoes, or free AOL CDs all work good for this. (I had to find something to do with all those free AOL disks...) ;) |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
I love spiders. But you know what I hate?
Spider webs. They scare the living daylights out of me - imagine being suffocated in one! I'm not sure what the phobia is for that, but when I'm around spider webs, I get totally freaked out and hate it. Another thing that this thread makes me think of is those egyptian beetles that get under your skin and go for the brain, like in Indiana Jones or whatever...*SHUDDER* |

This is an old thread, granted, but the topic is pertinent to this post.
I saw this today and have never heard of a spider web like this. The idea of spiders working together to form a communal web is very interesting. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/30/spi....ap/index.html |
Re: Ew, Spiders!
Personally, I don't see what the problem is. The more spiders you have around the house, the less insects you have.
|
Re: Ew, Spiders!
actually there are a few species of social spiders. I know of a South American tarantula that lives in colonies.
The size of this colony is what is pretty amazing. I can picture a single female carrying an egg capsule with hundreds of babies on the tree and all of them surviving to give that huge web, or maybe several generations doing it. It is known that in ecosystems where birds have been eliminated the spiders seem to flourish (Guam). Maybe this is a wakeup call to take a closer look at the ecosystem in that part of Texas Still pretty neat. And no sign of Toby Mcguire (sp)? WC |
