Yeah, 1504 is at the Super 8 too, after 3 hours of trying to sleep on the pull out couch (our 3 person room got "upgraded" to a king size with only 1 bed), I gave up, took a shower and got ready for the day. Someone remind me not to go here again...

seems like almost everyone was at the super 8. i didn't think it was all that bad of a hotel but i did notice that our room didn't have a clock. did anyone else have that problem or did we just get a weird room?

I would have gladly come along and filled in as your room's Clock.

<rimshot>

I am after all, an optional item for the pits as per section 7.16 of the FRC manual. :D

We made that desicion after last year, when some of the rooms that they gave us they decided not to clean from the guests that came before us.

For those of you in the future, the Best Western Castleton I thought was excellent. The pricing was reasonable, and the rooms were comfortable and worked well. It's not the Hyatt obviously, but it was clean and worked very well.

Except for the wake up call system not working, the Super 8 was kind to us. Cheap - $69 gets you AC that works, 2 rooms, 2 TV's, a refrigerator and microwave, a shower with good water pressure, plus free wi-fi.

Maybe Elgin could develop a wake up call system:
'Hello, this is your Clock speaking - it is time to rise, shine, and comp-e-t-e, GO Teams!'

Can everyone post good and bad on their hotels.
We will consider the comments when we try to arrange IRI rates for 2007.

Thanks -

Best Western Castleton

The Good:
Proximity to event
Good AC
Rooms clean
Restaurants of all sorts very close by

The Bad:
This wasn't an issue for us, but if we would have needed to put people on the floor to fill up the room, it would have been very, very tight fit.

the Super 8 in Castleton

Positives:
large, spacious bed
free wifi
lots of tv channels available
good showers
clean
quiet

Negatives:
no clock
half the people that worked there didn't speak English
housekeeping always came extremely early
skimpy Continental breakfast
really loud fan in the bathroom

Overall, though, I didn't think it was that bad.

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements

I'm extremely disappointed in the Hilton. We've stayed there for 4 or 5 years now and we have the same problem every year. I don't choose the hotel so I can't say why we keep going back, but it's probably because of the very convenient location.

Every year that we've been there, the hotel screws up and gives us rooms with a single king bed even though we always request 2 doubles. Since we put multiple people in each room (2 mentors per room, 4 students per room), having only 1 bed is obviously a problem. No one likes the rollaway thing.

This year all of our mentor rooms were single bed rooms. It's appalling to me that a place as nice (and pricey) as the Hilton can't manage to figure out how to properly reserve the rooms we ask for.

Add to this all the other negatives listed (why on earth do the most expensive hotels charge for internet while the cheapest ones have it free?) and it makes the Hilton a very unattractive option to me.

I travel ALOT....and I have often wondered the same thing. Actually about breakfast. If I pay more than $80.00 a night for a hotel room, I've got to pay for breakfast, yet if I stay in a cheaper hotel, breakfast is free...that's the most wacked out thing I've ever heard of too....
