IRI Hotel Arrangements
I'm a volunteer going by myself and I was hoping to stay in a hotel with other FIRST teams.
So where is everyone staying? |

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
Sounds like I'll be seeing a lot of FIRSTers around here! Seems like most of you all are staying on the North East side of Indy, around where i live.
see ya at IRI. -Q |
Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
I guess I come from a small state.
I just can't see myself, if I was from the same state as the competition, staying over at a (more) local hotel. |

1501 is staying at: Days Inn 8275 Craig St We have an extra spot in one of our "ladies" rooms if you want to bunk with them. Heck, I am sure if you can make your way to Huntington by 5:45 AM on Friday morning, we could even give you a ride down. |

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
Yeah, 1504 is at the Super 8 too, after 3 hours of trying to sleep on the pull out couch (our 3 person room got "upgraded" to a king size with only 1 bed), I gave up, took a shower and got ready for the day. Someone remind me not to go here again...

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
seems like almost everyone was at the super 8. i didn't think it was all that bad of a hotel but i did notice that our room didn't have a clock. did anyone else have that problem or did we just get a weird room?

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
For those of you in the future, the Best Western Castleton I thought was excellent. The pricing was reasonable, and the rooms were comfortable and worked well. It's not the Hyatt obviously, but it was clean and worked very well.

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
Except for the wake up call system not working, the Super 8 was kind to us. Cheap - $69 gets you AC that works, 2 rooms, 2 TV's, a refrigerator and microwave, a shower with good water pressure, plus free wi-fi.

Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
Can everyone post good and bad on their hotels.
We will consider the comments when we try to arrange IRI rates for 2007. Thanks - |

The Good: Proximity to event Good AC Rooms clean Restaurants of all sorts very close by The Bad: This wasn't an issue for us, but if we would have needed to put people on the floor to fill up the room, it would have been very, very tight fit. |

Positives: large, spacious bed free wifi lots of tv channels available good showers clean quiet Negatives: no clock half the people that worked there didn't speak English housekeeping always came extremely early skimpy Continental breakfast really loud fan in the bathroom Overall, though, I didn't think it was that bad. |
Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
I'm extremely disappointed in the Hilton. We've stayed there for 4 or 5 years now and we have the same problem every year. I don't choose the hotel so I can't say why we keep going back, but it's probably because of the very convenient location.
Every year that we've been there, the hotel screws up and gives us rooms with a single king bed even though we always request 2 doubles. Since we put multiple people in each room (2 mentors per room, 4 students per room), having only 1 bed is obviously a problem. No one likes the rollaway thing. This year all of our mentor rooms were single bed rooms. It's appalling to me that a place as nice (and pricey) as the Hilton can't manage to figure out how to properly reserve the rooms we ask for. Add to this all the other negatives listed (why on earth do the most expensive hotels charge for internet while the cheapest ones have it free?) and it makes the Hilton a very unattractive option to me. |

I travel ALOT....and I have often wondered the same thing. Actually about breakfast. If I pay more than $80.00 a night for a hotel room, I've got to pay for breakfast, yet if I stay in a cheaper hotel, breakfast is free...that's the most wacked out thing I've ever heard of too.... |
Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
Team 1114 stayed at the Hampton in on 82nd street, just down the road from the Hilton, for the second year in a row. I highly recommend this hotel to all teams.
- Close to the venue - Free wi-fi - Free hot breakfast (not continental) - Indoor swimming pool - Reasonable room rates $104/night for two double beds |
Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
My wife and I stayed at the Country Inn and Suites. The highway noise was very loud. Another of the mysteries of motel construction is why the windows and window coverings can't be insulated a little better.
One of the teams staying there had issues with the room configuration as mentioned about other hotels. |
Re: IRI Hotel Arrangements
Wow... this is great input. I thought you guys all liked the Hilton (formerly the Omni). We need to listen better.

I noticed that it seemed like every other room had a clock. My room had a clock, and the guys down the hall from me had one, but it seemed like everyone else I talked to didn't. I found that rather odd. I stayed at the Hilton in previous years and I really wasn't too impressed. As long as the Super 8 rate stays in place (well even its regular rate is cheaper than the Hilton special rate), I'll be staying there instead. It provided the absolute needs for what I needed: a decent bed and a shower. |

I'm pretty sure we had a clock in our room, but since I use my cell phone for an alarm clock one wasn't necessary. The one thing I did notice was that the one night when I wanted to watch TV I couldn't find the remote control. |
