I always thought it was the grease to meat ratio. The HIGH grease to meat ratio. But onions could be part of it too...

Around here there are plenty of mom and pop places to get "sliders" as they are known. It's great to see the slider get wrapped in white paper, only to unwrap it a minute later from what appears to be translucent paper. Mmm... grease... gack....

It's not as much grease as you think. The wetness of a "slyder" (official spelling) is due mostly to water. White Castle burgers are cooked on a steam grill. The fat content of the uncooked meat is comparable to any fast food burger, though the quickness of the cooking does end up leaving a bit more in the finished sandwich. The small size of the patty tends to mitigate that (unless you decide to "pig out" and have a half dozen or more at a time).

I had no idea... cool! :)

I think the Krispy Kreme still has more FIRST power, but I think this thread says there is a hidden, underground slyder movement. Plus there are way more holes in a white castle than a doughnut.

On a slight tangent - the sliders that I most often eat are not the steam cooked white castle version, but the dangerous kind on the flat grill. Anyone from south east Michigan should know what I'm talking about - all those tiny corner burger places...

It was so amazing. I love White Castle. You just have to have the proper intestinal fortitude to withstand it.

I hv bn a White Castle fan since my first burger - decades ago. I often hear that ppl hv to hv a cast iron stomach to eat them. Apparently I fit the bill. I've never has a bad experience in the gastro-intestinal dept :o . I've never bought them by the case, but a couple times a month I buy 2 frozen 6 paks from the local grocery store. Yummy!

I'd heard that there were some bad...after-effects...but I personally have never eaten there.

Why would anyone eat something referred to as a "slyder"? Ummm...no thanks.

I was ever so happy when I climbed back into the stands at IRI to watch some more of those amazing matches and 1902's Wendymom handed me a couple of White Castle boxes containing those tiny little hamburgers. I felt like Wimpy.

Lucky... I've had the "pleasure" of eating these. Let's just say they call them slyders for a reason.

Don't ask why they call it the slyder!!!! I usually go for the bacon cheeseburghers at about 3 - 4 of them (simply b/c they're so small. But anything more then 4 you usually start looking for trouble or the nearest restroom which ever should irritate you first :p. Don't get me wrong I'll go to White Castle for the Bacon Cheeseburghers, Wendys for the Baconator / Big Bacon Classic, Burgher King for the Double Bacon Cheeseburgher or MOEs Southwestern grill but the one that usually has me CHARGING for the restroom is White Castle....It's probably something in the beef that they use or the soda that I get with it. Nevertheless White Castle is good in my book.
