No Capital Clash off-season event in 2006

The Capital Clash off-season competition will not be taking place this year.

Thanks to all for your patience. Dee will try to follow up with all teams that sent inquiries.

The NBC Connected Expo will be held at the Washington Convention Center on Sept. 16 and 17, 2006.

Aw, heck.

Last year's Capital Clash was an awesome time--hopefully it'll return sometime in the future!

Just for reference, is there anything that interesting parties can do that could help bring an event back? Sometimes things crash because of lack of funding or lack of teams. If it's disclosable, it'd be good to know a reason so that those who are interested can contribute to bringing it back in the future.

Well now, that's kind of really disappointing... last year was so much fun... I lost my voice, I got a cool, free thermos and a bag of mints given under false pretenses... and hundreds (if not thousands) of smiles from those who stopped to play with our vex bots.

And in echoing what Eugenia said, let us know if there is something teams (local or not) could have done to make it happen!

Hello all...

I had hoped our team could have gone to this...I kept asking about it and no one I knew, knew anything.

On a lighter note some of the area teams (25 maybe) will have a two day competition at the Richmond area Virginia state fair in September.

We've allready have been invited...hope to see some of You there.

Oh wow. An offseason at a state fair is a really good way to bring more attention to FIRST from the general public. That's a really good idea!

And there is room for this where at the VA State Fair that hasn't already been taken up by something?

I've seen so many plans for an off season in Richmond, I'll believe it when I see it.

Thats saddening that Capital Clash was cancelled, i had fun last year(my first time driving at a competition and we were finalists:D)

On behalf of the MOE 365 team, we are disappointed that the Capitol Clash is not on for this year. However, it sounds like it might only be a temporary hold. Based on the feedback here, it will be missed and, hopefully, will be back again next year and going forward.

The good news is that there are other options for teams who are missing the Clash. The VA State Fair is one option.

Another is the Duel on the Delaware, a one-day event at Salem Community College in Carneys Point, New Jersey (right over the Delaware Memorial Bridge) on Saturday, October 21, 2006. We will have our usual team book drive competition, lots of dancing, and plan to have a full FIRST Vex Challenge scrimmage with local Vex teams.

If you are interested in the Duel, we only have a few slots left. Check out www.moe365.org

It was a great event last year; the support of great teams, fantastic volunteers and all those freebies! Even IPod's (right Judy ;) )

I wouldn't classify this as a crash. Sometimes hard choices have to be made with limited resources (money, time, people-sound familiar????) and what is best looking at the long term picture. This event was not only a great opportunity for teams but a showcase for FIRST and we all want to make sure we showcase FIRST the best we can.

So let's just say we hope that Capital Clash is taking a break and will be back next year.

We are fortunate in this area to have so many great off-season events and the support of Mike Wade and the traveling NASA field. Visit the calendar page at www.firstnemo.org to see a list of the off-season events. Dee will be sending out VA State Fair info in waves, starting with VA and NC and then expanding to the surrounding states. All the details should be out in the next few days.

I am disappointed. I know how much work Miss Jenny put into last year's event. (I was hoping to pick up another souvenir!)

It was great, a there may even be a repeat in the future and the gap this year will make it even sweeter!

With that said, state (and local) fairs are great opportunities to make a different sort of crowd aware of who and what the FIRST community is. We've been part of the MD State Fair and our local Troy Fair, and we've found both to be great opportunities to share what we do.

Get to Richmond if you can!
