I'm going to be on vacation during the competition, otherwise I would come up and check it out.

Good luck!

It is soposed to be small, because it is in the 30 lb weight class. Yes you can see one of the wheels to my segway in the background.

Nice catch. That is the issue about robot for the military. Good catch, although I would never try to take over the world....or would I

Very cool, whats the total cost? And where did you get your parts cnc'd?

They are banebot standard motors, although i have been debating changing the center wheel to a FP for torque reasons. The motors driving the wheels are 16:1 and the spinner is a 5:1

no but my experience with them again is another reason I really like working with them. They helped me out a bunch when i fell into a shipping bind and even found a cheaper solution. In my mind I think any FIRST robot I am involved in where FP motors are in the kit will have a bane bots transmission on it.

Well did things go badly as the last time Greg brought a battlebot to competition?

Greg Needel 20-08-2006 18:38

Re: pic: 6 days and counting

Battle bots final update: Overall I was very pleased with the robot and the challenge and while some people may have seen my performance yesterday as a failure going out with a record of 0-3, I just look at it as room for improvement.

match one: I played against http://buildersdb.com/botpics/4283.jpg
my robot got thrashed pretty bad but nothing really broke. I took a bunch of direct shots from his spinner and in the end I lost only because a PWM wire came out of my speed controller and my battery disconnected. The major damage on my bot was cosmetic but the bot still worked. I lost some of my 1/16 lexan sheeting that was just on the bottom of my skins to scrape the floor and be a zero wedge and that was totally destroyed so my wedge for the rest of the day wasn't exactly the lowest thing there

match 2: I fought http://buildersdb.com/botpics/1311.jpg
I knew I was going to have problems getting under him but I just stayed really aggressive and it went to the judges decision. The only reason he won was that he caused 1 of my panels to be broken but, it was basically a draw...I was pushing him like crazy all around the box. I left that match with a fully working robot. I had to swap the battery for the next match and that was it.

match 3: I fought http://buildersdb.com/botpics/3947.jpg
Now as this match finished I thought I had it won. I was working really well because his ground clearance is still higher then my damaged wedge. I wasn't able to flip him but I did manage to get some hits in. Once again it went to the judges and it basically was a coin toss at the end.

Overall with a few minor fixes and improvements I think there is defiantly some potential for this bot. I knew going into the event with the crazy hours I put into it and how short of a time frame I had it would be difficult to go against robots that have a few years of experience. I love a design challenge and wouldn't change anything that happened. It is nice to have a running bot when you leave a competition. There are a few things that should be done soon so I don't forget and there will be some major things on the horizon but for now I need to move back to Rochester and get going with my senior year of school before I worry any more about the future of my battle bots.

I would like to thank all the people that came out to support me at the event because it wouldn't have been the same or possible without you.

ED: no my dad wasn't there but there are videos and pictures out there and when I find them I will post them.

Lil: No it wasn't that bad.
