1065 Promo Video
Wasn't really sure where to put this...mods move at will
Over the past two days I threw a short promo video together for my team. It's found here. I'm looking for opinions and feed back, whats wrong with it, what should I change..what am I missing..etc. Thanks in advance :) Special Thanks to mocat1530 and Adam Richards for helping me with words for the last part |
Re: 1065 Promo Video
Pretty good...maybe a few more spots where you can hear the announcer over the music ...that was kinda cool when it did that

Re: 1065 Promo Video
It looks good.
I'm not critisizing, just suggesting (so please don't get mad); Maybe show some excting matches from the last few years as well (if you can find pre 2006 ones) and this year to show how exciting it can be. I know you playing defense is a cool shot to us FIRSTers, people who know little about it might think it's boring. Now, if you added in a clip of two robots scoring 15+ balls in autonomous, 195's handoff to 968 on einstein, or 25 swooping in and launching a bunch in, that would be more exciting to someone who has little knowledge about FIRST. Overall though, I like it though. |
Re: 1065 Promo Video
very good....maby add Gracious Professionalism to the end there...idk just an idea

Re: 1065 Promo Video
Good music, you guys had a good defensive bot this year.
cromat has a point, it would be good if you had footage of your bot doing more than defense, was it able to score center goals? You might also want to shorten the words at the end by a couple terms, and add some more footage so the video is like 3 mins. |
Re: 1065 Promo Video
Just one...at the end when "YOU" comes up, maybe there should be a sharper note. Other than that, I thought it was very good.

Re: 1065 Promo Video
You done good! I agree with Daisy above, if you could time and ending beat of the music with the word YOU or something like that. And the word Cooperation is spelled wrong. I knew that last night too, I just didn't think to tell you. :o
Got any crazy crowd shots you can throw in? |
Re: 1065 Promo Video
Incorporating the video to the music always helps, but it isn't recquired, and can often be difficult.
One spelling correction though, Cooperation was spelled Coorperation (or maybe you mean Corporation, either way). Also, cool effect of having the voiceover come over the music, but it you had the music a little bit louder during that part I think it would have been better, and you would have still been able to hear the announcer. Some more announcer clips would be really cool as well. Also, consider your target audience. If this is targeted at your team (as a highlight reel), team parents, other FIRSTers, or even judges, the defensive clips and such are perfect. But if it is targeted at potential sponsors, or even potential members, you may want to include some "best of the best" footage and suggested earlier. |
Re: 1065 Promo Video
Sean got a solid point. I've been making and editing videos for a while now, and the main thing you want to focus is your audience. Its an amazing promo video and sound effects are amazing.
The only thing I like to suggest is to come up with "dynamics." A promo video or any other video can be really boring and drag the audience through it; but if you can input some cool animations and cool sound effects and special effects, it keeps the audience alive. It also depends on what program one is using. BTW what program did you use? |

As for all the imput, THANKS!! The thing is with match footage...this year we didn't score much, and thats the best clip I could find. I'll talk to the team when we start meetings again and get thier advice for matche clips. Quote:

Re: 1065 Promo Video
Very Good Michelle, glad to see more teams in the area making promo videos.
General tips when making videos like Sean said, know your audience that will be viewing the video before making it. There are a few different types Wrap up Video for own team/chiefdelphiers - little explanation of FIRST needed, the audience already knows. Fast paced music with lots of quick clips of highlights. This is where your video did great in, especially when combining with pictures. The main purpose you may want to stress are pictures of people instead of parts of the robot, you mostly did well here too. Many of the videos were great, but could use a little more editing, show the best parts of each, don't start them too early or end late. Remember music can be edited as well to fit your video better. Wildstangs 2004 encore video is a great example to putting your video to music. Recruitment videos - Very similar, but a further explanation of what FIRST is. When people first join robotics, they want to see battlebots, give them the video of defensive play just to satisfy the bloodlust for the moment, show and explain the high energy sportlike competitions. Parents - Include scholarship opportunities, working with engineers, and hands on experience. Sponsors- Don't forget close up shots of the robot and T-shirts with other sponsors on them! mention travel and how many people/teams/other companies will be at those competitions. Administration/school board - Again, scholarship opportunities, other schools that participate, travel opportunity, real world experience, and most importantly how it can improve test scores and inspire math, science, and technology in students. for Florida, mention how it can improve the FCAT Now to be nitpicky, I love how you ended the video, but instead of a black background, you could have been doing that with the pictures in the background. Just a suggestion. Windows Movie Maker, is not the best of programs, but it isn't horrible either as long as your video isn't over 2 minutes. you may want to invest in a higher power amateur movie editing software. Good luck! |
Re: 1065 Promo Video
Michelle, the SOAP site has an archive of the UCF webcast. The videos are lower quality than yours, but it can offer more clips (and a 2nd angle of some matches) to help you if you want more footage.

Haha, just kidding. But I like the vid. As mentioned above, you did a good job with fast paced music and mixing it up with pics/vids of your robot. I also agree with everyone who has said to incorporate more clips where you can hear the announcer over the music, if at all possible. They were really cool. I realized you said that it was your first video that you've made, and it's really not bad. I'll be looking forward to some more promotional videos. (Now only if we can get one of our guys on making a vid for us...) |
