Looks sweet and all but, too bad the little vex motors can't handle much.

yeah, I'm thinking of buying some Victors and putting some beefier motos on for drive. maybe even make it shoot raquetballs.

Why not just gear multiple vex motors together for the drivetrain?

its really nice to have one, when it works... all it is right now is a $19,000 dollar paperweight. just decided to not work for us recently and often it does it.

you may want to put some of those locking bars things on the wheel it's not hard just two holes and some nuts and bolts

What do you mean? Do you mean have a built in shaft collar? If so that would be a great idea if the plastic or whatever material you are using can handle it!

If we make it thick enough, the plastic from the 3D printer is pretty strong. The problem with this though is that we're going to have to make a few spares in case something happens, and it will probably take about 6 or more hours per wheel... That is assuming the thing actually works...

what ira is saying that we have no idea when we are going to have the printer up and running. hopefully next week, but we have had problems with it in the past.

and as he was saying, we probably wont need to add a locking bar because the plastic itself is quite strong.

and ira is close on that number, it will take from 4 - 24 hours, just due to the size of it.

The prototype wheel is now printed. Pictures will be posted hopefully by tomorrow. The wheel currently still needs its roughtop traction material that i'm ordering from IFI.

and it only took 5 hours to print!

the pictures look sweet!!

How much they weigh and is the vex motors able to move them with the traction strips on them?

Yes, the wheel is able to move a bot, but if anything is in its way, it just spins. The roughtop should hopefully fix that problem.
