Volunteer for Vex!

I encourage our FRC members, who are already actively volunteering for the FLL events, to check out the schedule of FVC events and volunteer to help out. FVC has a small pool of volunteers to draw from since the program is still so new. Many of the dates for Championship Tournaments are still being planned at this point, but with our kickoff less than a week away, I'm sure there are tournaments that can use volunteer assistance!

Yeah! What she said! VEX is cool!

And FVC is a one-day event for volunteers -- not as exhausting as volunteering at FRC, but with the same kind of excitement. The fun-to-frustration ratio is generally higher for VEX than for FRC.

(And for all you inspectors out there -- VEX inspection takes a few minutes per robot. More time to enjoy the rest of the event!)

Yeah! What he said!

I judged at Orangeburg and reffed at the Championship, and it was a blast both days. The events are smaller, more like an FRC off-season, but they really pack a lot of action into these games. The finals in Atlanta for Half-Pipe Hustle were about as exciting as those for Aim High, and you didn't run the risk of a Poof ball to the head (or elsewhere).

I'll definitely be at the South Carolina Championship Tournament next February, classes permitting, and I'm hopeful that it'll be even more competitive, both on the field and off, than the 2006 event. (I've never judged an FRC or FLL event, but doing it in Orangeburg was an interesting process and a pretty good time. Lots of that "hard fun" they keep talking about. ;))

I'm coaching the VEX team for this season! and I hope to volunteer at other VEX and FRC events. :D And possibly help the kids in our grade schools with the hopefully soon to be JFLL and FLL teams. along with the FRC bot and our numerous fund raisers.

Maybe i can help out at the Los Angeles Championship Tournament. What type of things would they have me do?

If they have the job in FRC, odds are there's a similar one in FVC. There's still judges, refs, an emcee (who tends to also do play-by-play), field resetters, inspectors, crystal keepers (because if two robots are on the same channel, bad things happen), scorekeepers, queuers, pit admin folks, et cetera.

Those are "During the Event Positions". There also are needs setting up the venue and tearing it down and cleaning up afterwards. Depending upon how large the event is, this can absorb many workhours, and volunteer help is ALWAYS welcome! Contact the event coordinator if you want to do a specific task, or just volunteer your time. It's a foregone guarantee that there will be a position that needs to be filled.
