Thanksgiving this year is Nov. 23, so the week after the release of the Wii (official release date is a Sunday, so technically, the same week...)

Heh, funny story. Last Thanksgiving my old GameCube conked out, so I went to the local Best Buy on Black Friday and waited in the line which wrapped all the way around the building. Then as soon as everyone was let into the stores and everyone was frantic searching for/asking if the store had any 360's left, I merely strolled in, purchased my new GCN bundle, and was out of the store within 5 minutes.

Anyways, I simply cannot wait for the 19th. The Wii has so much potential, on top or what it is already offering, (Wii Channels, Web Browsing, free online connectivity, Virtual Console, etc.) and to top it all of it's being sold at a more reasonable/affordable price than it's competitors.

The Friday after Thanksgiving.

No idea why it's called that. What I do know is, apparently, after eating tons of food, people want to go shopping O.o;;

If Nintendo keeps acting on their alternative marketing/technology facade I don't think your plan would work.

What I expect them to do is to FLOOD the market with Wiis. None of this waiting list stuff. Availability + Low Price > Waiting list + High Price. Instead of signing up to be called in 3 months when the next shipment comes in, and then deciding later you'd rather have a PS3 they will count on that impulse buy.

It is called black Friday because the stores are in the black for the day. By in the black that means they had a very good sales day and that their figures aren't in the red or negative.

I too however can't wait for the Wii to come out. I really want one, mostly because I haven't had a new video gaming system since the Game Boy Advance, and before that the N64... It's time...

There will be way more Wiis available at launch than there were Xbox 360s. At the launch of the 360 in North America, there were only approximately 326,000 units, of which 40,000 were re-sold on eBay. Microsoft stated that by the end of 2005, it sold roughly 500,000 units in North America.

Sony is following in Microsoft's footsteps, selling two different PS3 packages, but they also recently announced that it will have 400,000 PS3s ready in North America and another 100,000 in Japan for the system's launch.

Now Nintendo, on the other hand, plans to ship 4 million Wii units worldwide by the end of the year. Keep in mind that the Wii isn't launching in Japan until December second, and not in Europe until December 8th. So I doubt that Nintendo will be having any shortages as severe as 360 had or PS3 will have.

Re: Nintendo Wii: $250; November 19

I haven't had a current generation gaming console since I got my Genesis back in '93 (which I still play every now and then, BTW), and even I'm tempted to nab a Wii. Though it'd probably be after Christmas, I'd get it just for the ability to play older Gamecube games, which will be much cheaper than newer games (and hey, I might just find a few Wii games to enjoy too). That price is just too good.

And for the record, my money is on Nintendo dominating this generation of the console war. See Sony, this is what happens when you try to stick your proprietary technology into your gaming console (but that's another debate entirely).

Of course, I'll still be primarily into PC games. I don't think that'll ever change. Unless Sonic takes over the gaming world again...
